As Neil Smith put it, TV anchors know only office politics and hair spray. Journalism, even in its currently very feeble form, is not part of their job requirements.
Aviation is very similar to firearms in the sense that nobody in the media or politics knows anything about it but both groups want to speak with absolute authority on how to “fix it”.
