When I lived in Northern Michigan, the locals had a turn of phrase for those traipsing through their towns and lives: “fudgies”. Not a term of endearment. It alluded to the fact that the transients seemed to think that Up North rose and set upon Mackinac Island Fudge, and it’s homologues.
