OPEN TEXAS PROTESTORS ARRESTED OUTSIDE OF ODESSA BAR
Get Texas reopened – that’s the demand from people across West Texas Monday.
Businesses mandated to remain closed, are now open. That includes the Big Daddy Zane’s Bar in West Odessa.
A rally in support of the business spurred the response of the Odessa SWAT team.
Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis confirms eight people were arrested at the rally this afternoon, six for felony unlawfully carrying a weapon on licensed premises.
According to Everything Lubbock:
Owner, Gabrielle Ellison, said she spoke with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office prior to the protest. According to Ellison, she was told everything would be fine as long as men with guns are not seen on the property. Out of respect for law enforcement, she said she confined the men to an area in the back, which is her private property.
So these protesters were around back of a bar, with guns, in a town of 22,000 people and SWAT came out.
Look at this shit:

They rolled out the MRAP, plate armor, and M4s for that.
Why?
Because Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumbass were bored and and needed an excuse to play with the expensive toys the fed.gov gave them.
This kind of shit really undermines respect for law enforcement.
Guys around back of a bar in West Texas with guns doesn’t requite officers Dunkin and Winchell to respond like it’s a bank robbery in West Hollywood.
But that’s what happened because…
That sheriff really needs to be impeached and charged with perjury.
Not a good look.
And, whatever happened to “LT, AYFKM?” from the troopies? Back In The Day ™, when I was a street medic, officerial foolishness like this elicited just that response on more than one occasion.
Just curious. What do you Blue Lives Matter-types recommend to Texas LE when they’re dispatched to a 6 armed protestors committing felonies call? When they’re white guys, of course, cuz I know how y’all would respond if they were armed and black.
Also, word is these were Boogaloo folks.Don’t know if that’s true, not sure that it matters. But since I see the movement being discussed here, thought you might be interested.
What felonies were they committing?
They were probably using a household cleaner, and the label told them to mix a cap full of the cleaner with a gallon of water, but they only mixed it with 3.5 quarts of water, thereby using a labeled product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. Felony.
Or maybe they owned more than 4 sex toys (chapter 43) in Texas.
Or maybe one of them was an oyster fisherman. 11 of the 2,324 acts that the Texas Legislature thinks are worthy of being called felonies have to do with acts that you can commit with or to an oyster.
The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.
You can’t possess a firearm on the premises of a bar or place that makes the majority of its money from alcohol sales.
That is the justification they used.
Nope. Not the law. You can’t have a handgun or a location restricted knife on the premises of a bar. If not a handgun, the law doesn’t restrict that one.
I did more research and discovered that my original interpretation was wrong. I don’t live in TX, so I am less familiar with the law than my own state. I did do a bit of research, and this is what I found:
Texas Penal Code Section 46.03 makes it illegal to carry a weapon “ON THE PREMISES” of a bar or liquor store. And Subsection 46.03(c)(2) defines “premises” as such:
“Amusement park” and “premises” have the meanings assigned by Section 46.035.
Section 46.035(f)(3) “Premises” means a BUILDING OR A PORTION OF A BUILDING. The term DOES NOT INCLUDE any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, PARKING LOT, parking garage, or other parking area.
So unless the gun owners were in the bar’s building, the Sheriff and his SWAT team were in the wrong. Let’s see if they get lawyers on this.
Meal Team 6.
Yep.

When they get called “5-0” isn’t for the tv show, it’s for their pants size.
A couple of rifle rounds into the MRAP’s rear axle MAXI’S, and the thing will be immovable for quite a while. Easy fix.
I don’t suppose that it has occurred to any that it is possible to make an APFSDS projectile for a muzzle loading cannon?
If you have a machine shop and enough hardened steel you could. Tungsten is better but obscenely expensive.
The Thick Blue Line. Does that MRAP come with the handicap sticker?
Those are deputies? A bit on the big side. And a huge disgrace (pun intended)
This line from “Alice’s Restaurant” comes to mind:
“I want tell you about the town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where this happened here, they got three stop signs, two police officers, and one police car, but when we got to the “Scene of the Crime” there was five police officers and three police cars, being the biggest crime of the last fifty years, and everybody wanted to get in the newspaper story about it. And they was using up all kinds of cop equipment that they had hanging around the police officer’s station; they was taking plaster tire tracks, foot prints, dog smelling prints, and they took twenty-seven eight-by-ten color glossy photographs with circles, and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was, to be used as evidence against us. Took pictures of the approach, The getaway, the northwest corner the southwest corner and that’s not to mention the aerial photography…”
A lot of jokes and guffawing here but no answer to the question.
You’re a cop in a west Texas town and you get dispatched to multiple armed subjects possibly committing a felony at a local bar. So do you roll up there in your marked unit and risk getting hit before even stepping out of your car? Or do you call in something that insures that you go home after your shift?
It’s real easy to sit back and write posts/comments and crack jokes about the guys in blue just trying to do their jobs and stay alive. And you have the balls to call yourselves pro-law enforcement?
Seriously, y’all got all the answers all the time. Y’all are the experts with everything, am I right?
What would you do?
Except, according to the article above: “Owner, Gabrielle Ellison, said she spoke with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office prior to the protest. According to Ellison, she was told everything would be fine as long as men with guns are not seen on the property. Out of respect for law enforcement, she said she confined the men to an area in the back, which is her private property.”
If true, they are not being “dispatched to multiple armed subjects possibly committing a felony at a local bar.” They should know exactly what is happening.
I was going to post the same thing. They were notified ahead of time. The cops want to be careful- the left already hates them. They need to make sure that they don’t put themselves in the position of having both sides hate them. Their budgets and jobs depend on the support of the citizens.
The thing I did for 3 years before being tired of being screwed over on a daily basis: use my head.
There are just to many variables and what if gotcha questions but in general assuming it wasn’t a call of shots fired at a school or reports of casualties
1. Coordinate with other officers and establish who was closest and as I’m a lucky ducky it was often me so I would use my hopeful knowledge of the area to drive through with minimal risk and exposure while relaying what I saw then park with cover and use the dead space to ‘gear up’ if I felt like it was needed.
2. Make a gut check whether this needed direct action or could wait for backup. Been there done that for both.
3. Make sure my car was locked so no one stole my goodies or protein bars and sweet tea thermos.
4. Call out spots for other responding officers to stage and once I had two other buddies I would leave whichever one I liked least to organize others as they showed up and go in with the other fella OR surrender command to a duty Sergeant or the few times it was big enough to warrant it the Chief if they showed up in time OR go in with the fella I didn’t like if it was the department brown noser and I thought I could get away with using him as a meat shield.
5. Begin approach in as non-threatening a way as possible unless a threat was perceived and figure out what the heck was going on.
Step 6-500. Paperwork
501. Find out some jack wagon officer stole my sweet tea because it was well known I made the best darned sweet tea.
Never did I feel the need to use the bully force of overwhelming state sanctioned violence to cow citizens into compliance like meal team 6 up there did when a conversation would do instead.
This approach worked for lotta stuff that did require force but it was proportionate and appropriate for the situation not because “well gee we gotta use this new widget since the grant I probably lied on said we had a desperate need for it”
