From the NYC PBA:

The Blue Flu has taken out over 800 cops, permanently.

Given that and de Blasio’s budget cut, I don’t know if they will be able to refill the ranks.

And that 809 is only to this point this year.  Expect that trend to continue.

NYC may end up with only a fraction of the number of cops it actually needs by the end of the year and we all know what will happen after that.

The homicide rate for people under retirement age from this is going to be worse than the COVID death rate for the same age bracket when all is said and done.

This strain of Blue Flu is going to wipe out NYC, and just like COVID, it will be de Blasio and Cuomo’s fault.

  1. They cut $1 BILLION from NYPD’s annual budget.

A first-year NYPD officer can expect to pull down ~$40k/year. Benefits are pretty extensive, and with administrative costs likely cost the department about that again. So ball-park $75-80k for first-year officers.

That’s ~13,000 new officers they can’t hire, assuming the full budget cut comes from new-officer hiring.

Which it won’t. They’ll also need analysts, lab techs, evidence monitors, etc., all the non-officer support staff that actually solve criminal investigations.

But we’re still talking thousands of positions going unfilled due to budget cuts, in a department that already can’t shoot straight because their training and qualification budget only allows one box of 50 practice rounds per officer per year.

809 retiring officers is just the beginning.

    We ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

    1. Remember DeBlasio’s conversation with Hannity a while back when he bragged that he had added 2000 new cops in NYC, as he dodged Hannity’s question about the need for citizens to be able to be armed to defend themselves? POS.

  2. Re “refill the ranks” we already know that DeBlasio has shut down the police academy, no new recruits from that source. That leaves transfers. How many cops transfer from elsewhere into NYPD? More in general, is policing a profession with mobility? My impression, admittedly not based on much data, is that you start work somewhere and stay there. That’s what seniority rules are designed to do, after all.

    1. I am not a LEO, this is just what I’ve heard about the in-state situation.

For a while, Albuquerque has had real trouble hiring police officers. This seems to be due to a number of factors, from the oversight by the DOJ generating an unpleasant environment to work in, to judges and prosecutors who seem to be on the criminals’ side more often than not.

So they raised starting salaries. What’s been happening is, officers are either coming in early-career, or joining ABQ police right out of the local academy, spending a few years getting a good start and saving some money, and then moving to another location where it’s more pleasant to be working.

Based solely on that, I suspect there’s more mobility than one might expect … especially for younger officers who might not have so much vested in retirement plans, etc.

  3. Today Gauführer deBlasio is wasting taxpayer money in a meaningless wokeness gesture (and to troll Trump), while crime continues to escalate city-wide and he still supports defunding the NYPD.

“Nero” plays the woke fiddle while NYC burns. Priorities, right? /sarc

    1. Ha! And to make things even more redonkulous…

“Fascinatingly ineffective, first of its kind strategy in progress by Mayor DeBlasio: At the same time, he is both asking the President for a $7.4 BILLION bailout while also trolling the President by painting this mural in front of Trump Tower in NYC.”

Who needs disaster movies. Reality is far more crazier & entertaining with these kind of libtard douches in charge. LOL!

  4. MiniMe,

Remember the old headline the time in the 1970’s NYC?, — Ford to NY, Drop Dead!

It isn’t just NYFC. The Chicago City Council had a temper tantrum and voted to remove the Trump Name from the street in front of his development. Petty BS.

Tell them to apply to the Clinton Foundation if they need money.
