Even if you tried, you could not come up with such idiotic process.  Even the spirit of Franz Kafka would throw the towel rather than deal with such amount of bizarre political surrealism.

To summarize: The developer wants to build 74 unit building on his property which at least 7 of those units will be reserved by law for low-income families. So, 7 families that could have good and affordable housing will not have it because the crazy people of the Mission district and the city of San Francisco government oppose that some white guy would actually make a profit on property that belongs to him and would even generate taxes for the city.

I swear the mother of all tsunamis cannot clean that city.

  1. It makes me sad that for all the woke socialist ideals San Francisco has, it will not turn into Caracas because of the money that comes in from the Tech Industry and Federal Government. Boy how I wish every one of those people protesting the housing project were reduced to starvation and having to eat roadkill and out of dumpsters.

  2. Hate to say it, it ain’t just San Fran.

My dad was a land developer in Placerville (east of Sacramento), and he had to move the family all the way to TN where my mom’s family was b/c… the town council didn’t want any growth. It’s a small mountainous town that’s firmly in conservative territory (when I was a kid. Lord knows what out-of-towners have done to it).

It’s asinine thinking, but most of CA seems to not want ground up growth but is happy to redistribute what shrinking little it has left to the point there’s nothing left.

    1. Dead J,

It sort of makes sense to them. No growth means prices go up. That keeps the riff-raff out.

A better option would be to throw out all the illegals. Plenty of room, plenty of jobs. Except then the nouveau riche couldn’t afford their nannies and grounds keepers.

  3. Remember how the good people laughed at the yokels that said Frisco was today’s Sodom and Gomorrah?

    Who is laughing now?

The new California governor came from that cess pool.
