I had seen it before in passing, but it was just now that I caught a detail that pissed me off royally:
People inside the restaurant are watching the older man getting attacked and do not express any discomfort or outrage at the event. But the moment he turns the tables and draws his weapon terminating the attack without anybody getting injured, the customers suddenly lose their calmness and cry in fear, I am guessing for the lives of the would-be robbers.
That’s Chicago isn’t it?
No idea
It is, in fact, chicago

Thanks! 🙂
Correction: they are cheering on the attackers then switch to terrified outrage when the gun comes out. Two guesses why.
One theory- they watch too much tv where the bad guy is always a white guy with a gun…. its conditional training for morons. Criminals are just doing “un volountary withdrawals” they dont mean any harm but the guy with the gun? HE is bbbbaaaaadddd. “Real men use fists”
I had missed it the first time around, that old man was a security guard. So not only was the inside crowd happy to see an old man beat up, they wanted the security that helped keep that restaurant open.
But that is there myth we are being taught,. To underneath young men, collage bound, hopes and dreams of a better life, gunned down for now good reason.
My take is they don’t care about either party, it’s just an exciting show. Then the pistol comes out and the barrier (glass) between them and show is negated. All of a sudden they are participants.
My take has something to do with the race of the perps and the unseen crowd…
Agreed, it’s complete indifference. They aren’t even “hashtag activists” (https://www.cagle.com/eric-allie/2014/05/hashtag-activism), more likely they are WorldStarHipHop uploaders.
I watched it the first time without the sound and wondered why it pissed you off since I saw a happy ending. Sound on explained it.
People are always excited to see a fight but less so a fatality.
“People are always excited to see a fight but less so a fatality.”
Particularly when they consider the possibility that it might be their own.
I’ve seen this phenomenon quite a few times in my like. I’ve even experienced it once myself. Some jerk starts beating on someone, everyone cheers or eggs them on, then said person fights back and hurts said attacker, then every watching suddenly abhors violence and says the victim “shouldn’t have taken it so far.”
