A so-called panic button, which is designed to alert a school’s main office to a classroom emergency, reportedly didn’t work after a Key Largo School teacher pushed his repeatedly while a third-grader threatened to shoot and stab his classmates last week.
The threat was apparently just that, and the boy did not have a weapon. But the school’s reaction to the situation sparked outrage among concerned parents who say they were never informed about the incident until after a child told his parents and that couple posted it on Facebook several days later.
One more time: In case of death or grave bodily harm, it is PULL THE TRIGGER, not PUSH THE ALARM BUTTON.
As the Opposition loves to say: “How many more children’s bodies have to fall for the common sense to be exercised?”
So, did the button fail, or was it a dummy to pacify the staff?
There will never be enough dead children until all guns are confiscated and the people disarmed. That is the gun grabbers’ ultimate goal, and only then, will they stop the Bloody Danse Macabre.
Button failure…. somebody forgot to change the batteries if you ask me.
But let’s make sure we’re very clear here: you’re NOT saying that this unarmed 3rd grader should have been taken out by an armed teacher, are you? Or are you?
You go ahead and think hard…see if you can extrapolate.
I see the desired teacher’s reaction as this: 1) Take hand. 2) Grab Little Johnny’s ear with hand. 3) Drag Little Johnny to the principal’s office. 4) Let the prinicpal apply the board of education to the seat of knowledge.
I know, I know, that’s “abuse!!!” and it won’t happen. Sure made a lot of little hooligan wanna-be’s think twice when I was in school, though.
SRSLY?? You didn’t just ask that in all sincerity, did you?
The overwhelming majority(there are no stats, because nobody knows exactly how many) of incidents where someone defends people with a gun never result in shots fired.
It’s overkill, yes, but the teacher should have SOME option besides “stand back, act terrified.” I’d like to at least think that most parents, when told given the option of “Student A kills Student B and possibly also students C, D, E, F…” or “Student A gets a painful but non-medically-involved slap upside the head,” they would go for the second option.
But no. Even that option is illegal in this day and age.
I believe the moral of the story is had it been a real active shooter, the button would have proved as worthless as the no gun sign. If you really think any of us are going to condone “taking out” a 3rd grader… Well I assume the CSGV has an internship open
Wait, why was the teacher pushing a ‘panic button’ instead of walking over to the THIRD GRADER, grabbing him by his ear, and dragging his ass to the principals office?
Travis, that’s beautiful. You posted while I was typing. Did we go to the same school? 😉
While taking a lab safety tour at a former employer, some big red “EMERGENCY” buttons were pointed out to me.
The safety officer noted that I should NEVER push the buttons because whoever ordered them installed had NO idea HOW they would be implemented, so they did even less than the buttons on my daughter’s toys which at least make lights flash and music play.
The buttons were connected to NOTHING and would simply go “Click” in a safety-oriented way.
Thankfully this lab had lots of phones for calling staff and 911, and didn’t have a gun policy so I had a .45 on me.
