1. That does not make sense. Jews were given the order of either convert or leave Spain well before Columbus first trip to what would be the Americas. Many Jews fled and a good sized “converted” so they were not prosecuted and needed not to leave Spain. This diaspora went east to the Ottoman Empire because it was safe…. GOING WEST WAS PERCIEVED TO BE VERY DANGEROUS! Remember, people still thought the earth was flat and that sea serpents would attack ships in uncharted waters. No jew or gentile with some common sense would have gone on those trips to “escape oppression” when safer alternatives were available.
