Senate panel votes down self-defense bill SB719 that tried to confuse already clear law in Louisiana.

Legislation inspired by Florida’s Trayvon Martin case failed in a Senate committee Tuesday amid concerns that it would cloud state law

First, the case of Martin/Zimmerman is not yet finalized so what we have here is a clear case of “fixin’ what ain’t broken.” But what is more interesting is that the person introducing the bill, Sen. Yvonne Dorsey-Colomb refused to clarify its language even though everybody told her that it made a hash out of the current law. If one was to be suspicious, we could say that muddying the current law was the original intention in the hopes of coming back later and strike Stand Your Ground out of the books.

Then again it could be just plain stupidity in Ms. Dorsey-Colomb’s part. We are talking politicians here.

It’s likely a mix of both combining from the motives of various players. I would not be surprised if the Bradyite’s are behind some of this and a long ball play of screwing up the language to destroy it later is something I can see them do. If you look at MA law, you begin to see just how much long ball was being played. Back in 1998 they were laying the groundwork establishing the precedent to ban all AWs and require only gun clubs be able to possess AWs for the use of their members. You can bet hand guns were soon to follow.

The problem is they screwed up in thinking the PDs would not issue LTCs, even restricted ones, to the chattel class. That didn’t happen and now we have large swaths of law on the books which is causing more and more trouble for both sides.
