6. I carried my personally owned Glock 17 in my issue M7 holster on the Czech-German border in ’89. I believe the residue from the 1911’s we’d just turned in protected the leather from catching fire.

   Why was I carrying a Glock instead of an M1911A1 or M9? SNAFU.

   We’d turned in our .45’s and the ammo and had not been issued our M9’s because of a stop in issue for some problem with the new pistols. We had gotten our 9mm ammo, though. We were granted special dispensation to scour the rod and gun clubs for anything that shot 9mm to take to the border deployment.

   Fun times.
