And you know what? I don’t blame them

Not exactly reading too much into the roman candle fight. Ignoring that is a seriously minor issue. (Granted, if the NYPD was not totally disillusioned, they likely would have stepped in and stopped it, but…)
The fights, yeah, that really is an indicator of the FIDO.
Years ago you had a post about how your family fled Franco to Cuba, Castro to Venezuela, and you fled Chavez to Miami. I asked where you would go next if America fell and your response was “to the trenches.”
You may not remember that but it stuck with me.
How close are we, do you think?
Ask me November 4th
Honestly I kinda wanna be outta here before that. ?
After thinking about it, I have to conclude I don’t think this is what the police should be doing.
Police officers are paid to do a hard, dangerous job. We all have seen the issues recently with city leadership, such as it is, and the zero support they’re getting.
That said … if you aren’t willing to do the job you signed on to do, no matter how good your reasons are, if you stop doing it but still draw the paycheck, you’re basically stealing. Put in your retirement papers, take accumulated vacation / leave, quit, whatever. But if you are choosing to not do the job, you shouldn’t take the pay. (This is different than being told to stand down by your chain of command.)
I realize this isn’t going to be a very popular opinion. I would ask, though, if you down-vote, please tell my why you disagree – I’m honestly curious.
Rumors, mostly BS are saying they may give the city a taste of real police defunding on July 4. The problem is if the city goes up for grabs on 7/4, it will take more than the NYPD to put it back to normal.
You cannot just put the mob back in a jar after you let it loose, which the Democrats are just now learning (or not-in many cases) the hard way. The mob has a mind and a life of its own. Just ask Robespierre. Or the ruthless little man that destroyed that mob with grapeshot and bayonets.
I had a response prepped, during my nursing days, should staffing, or whatever, become intolerable: “Boss, what’s 2 weeks from tomorrow?”
The folks up in Canada even noticed what is going on in NYC.
