Mass Shooters in the US, Who are they?

The Narrative is inflexible: A mass shooter is a White guy, Christian, racist possibly redneck and member of the NRA. That is what the Gun Control groups keep telling us and the Traditional Media whispers in its editorials.

But does it fit reality? Yesterday’s incident in San Bernardino kinda shakes that Narrative a bit, but I expect that somebody from the Opposition would jump and scream “That is the exception that confirms the rule!” But we are better than that (yes, stolen from the Moms) so we need to get some facts.

The latest darling for the Gun Control Groups and Media in general is a website called ShootingTracker.com. If you heard or read lately the “there has been four hundred mass shootings in three hundred days! ZOMG!”  news bit, they are referring to this particular site created by two members of Reddit who use as guideline any shooting where four or more victims (including the shooter) occur. They are kind enough to provide Excel files of their findings which include the date, name of the shooter, victims by death or wound and links to the news story.

I downloaded the files for 2014 and 2015 (updated till day before yesterday) and proceeded to check the race of the shooters named in the file. Why the emphasis? Because the majority of entries are classified unknown or undisclosed and I really did not have the heart to go chasing after every link. Just doing the checks of the ones named took me 10 hours, so take it for what is worth and if somebody is willing to do the full job, more power to him/her.

There are some issues with the data which I may address in-depth in another post, but as example, they may name several people in one entry when only one of them was the actual shooter (IE: The Minnesota Black Lives matter shooting.) In another case, they named a police officer who only shot one person: the shooter.

My methodology was simple: I googled the name of the shooter and tried to find his/her picture in at least two different sources giving preference to mugshots. If was not able to find a picture, I classified that name as unknown. In one case, a father who killed his three-year old daughter and her caregivers, I was only able to find one picture that had been described in several sources as a selfie with his daughter before he killed her and then committed suicide.

So here are the results. Remember I am not good at this numbers stuff and I consider Excel as the tool of the devil:

2014:
Total Incidents: 336
Name Unknown/Unreported: 286
Shooter’s race Black: 35
Shooter’s race White: 28
Shooter’s race other (Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Martian, etc.): 23

2015
Total Incidents: 354
Name Unknown/Unreported: 286
Shooter’s race Black: 33
Shooter’s race White: 27
Shooter’s race other (Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Martian, etc.): 8

Now, I might be off my numbers by a bit, so I urge you to go to ShootingTracker.comdownload the files and obtain the figures if you are into the Excel stuff and statistics stuff. If you are the brave one that checks EVERY entry, please let us know so we can link you to your results.

And as for the rest, apparently the Narrative is not so truthful and strong as the Opposition makes it to be.

You get to make your own decision.

It changes a man (humor post)

Both of my Brothers-in-law are getting married within the next 12 months.  My wife was recounting to me their wedding plans.  In the course of the conversation, as conversations about marriages with women go, the topic of my proposal came up.  Suffice it to say, my proposal wasn’t all that great.   I was also 21 at the time and still in college.  In my own defense, 21 year old college kids aren’t the wisest or most romantic, despite what they (we) may think.

So I felt it was incumbent upon me to propose again, with a big romantic gesture.

I walked over to her, where she was sitting on the couch.  I got down on one knee.  I took her hands in mine.  Kissed them.  Looked lovingly into her eyes, and said:

“My love.  Would you like to file your taxes jointly with mine, even through it is fiscally more responsible for each of us to withhold at the higher single rate?”

Nearly 10 years of marriage changes a man.

ZOMG! Them White Rednecks NRA members are Domestic Terrorists!

CSGV domestic terrorsists

Don’t even bother with the article Ladd is quoting as it contains the usual amount of hyperbolic statements we are used to hear.

But, who are the biggest domestic terrorism threat in the US? We the Gun Nuts? ISIS (cross fingers they don’t show up or they show up at a 3-Gun Match).

Or is it unhinged Liberals?

The Rand corporation has this nifty searchable database of terrorist events worldwide. I selected the US, all events from 2000 to 2010 and got a very interesting result: Out of 113 incidents of terrorism in the USA, 71 are directly tied to the eco-terrorist groups Animal Liberation Front and Earth Liberation Front. Two go to the Coalition to Save The Preserves, another eco-terrorist group. Another 14 incidents were not claimed by the perpetrators but they are classified as eco-terrorism because of the targets (logging, car dealerships, laboratories, etc) and that brings a grand total of 87  acts of terrorism by the Liberal Nut side of the political equation where the Cult Coalition to Stop Gun Rights Violence resides in comfort. That is 76.99% of all terrorism in the US from 2000 to 2010.

In the same period, there has been zero terrorist attacks by the NRA, GOA, SAF, IDPA, USPSA, 3-Gun, Cowboy Action,….. OK, you guys get the idea.

Careful with them Tree Huggers as they are not as peaceful as they like to portray…just like CSGV.

Darn, I almost forgot my favorite unhinged tree huggers:

Remember: Gun Ownership is on its way out. Nobody is buying guns but a few rednecks.

More Americans had their backgrounds checked purchasing guns on Black Friday than any day in the on record, according to data released by the FBI this week.
The National Instant Criminal Background Check System processed 185,345 requests on November 27, one of the largest retail sales days in the country.”This was an approximate 5% increase over the 175,754 received on Black Friday 2014,” wrote Stephen Fischer, the FBI’s chief of multimedia productions. “The previous high for receipts were the 177,170 received on 12/21/2012.”…

Since 1998, FBI data shows that the bureau has processed requests for more than 220 million firearm purchases.

I want to say I did not participate in the absurd and disgusting consumerism fest of buying guns in Black Friday… The wife did not let me.

And if you did, I have only what thing to say to you: Hatechu and What did you get?

Opinion on the Colorado PP Shooting

This is all I want to say about the Colorado Planned Parenthood shooting:

First of all, I do not condone mass shootings.  I feel like I shouldn’t have to say that, but I just want to make it clear.

As per the issue of abortion.  On principle, I don’t like it, but I accept it as an ugly reality of modern day life.  A necessary evil.  The least worst option available at that moment.  Consequently, I am pro-choice, but from a mainly libertarian perspective.  I just don’t like the idea of the government having the power to make that choice on another person’s behalf.  Done.

Here is what I noticed in the media coverage of the PP shooting compared to other recent events.

Following the PP shooting, Democrat politicians and liberal pundits took to the airwaves and internet to #StandWithPP and condemn the “violent rhetoric” of the GOP that (supposedly) caused the shooting.  The undercover PP videos were roundly condemned again.  The left mounted a national media defense of Planned Parenthood and an attack on gun rights.

Following the Charlie Hebdo massacre and Texas “Draw Muhammad” shooting Democrat politicians and liberal pundits took to the airwaves and internet to bend over backwards to explain how there are limits to the 1st Amendment, freedom of speech doesn’t mean we should go around insulting Islam just because we can, we shouldn’t “punch down” by criticizing Islam, and how #JeSuisCharlie is defending white privilege.  The left mounted a national media attack waffling on the freedom of speech.

Watching all of this has left me with one conclusion.

If the right to kill unborn children is more important to you and a more defensible position to you than the freedom of speech, there is something fundamentally wrong with your political ideology and perhaps your soul.
