So the Manatee range where we will be holding the SW Fla Blog PewPew prohibits the use of green tip ammo in its rangers. Take a wild guess who has only green tip in his stock?

So I spent the morning calling different places and they are all out, even the very expensive stuff is gone. Not a round anywhere.

A gracious soul has promised me to bring me enough ammo to zero the 2 guns I need to get ready. But the rest of the shooting will be done with 9mm and .22LR in long guns. I could take the Romanian Lady, but that would be a lot crap and I still haven’t found a muzzle device for the damned thing (May the curse of the gunsmith gods fall upon Century Arms)

Somebody is taking a shotgun, so I am bringing shells for that.

I know I am overdoing it and probably will not shoot as much as I am worried I am gonna shoot.

PS: I will be bringing a carbine in 9mm. If you want to shoot, please bring your commercial ammo as all I have is reloads and I don’t feel good with people taking chances with my rolled-up stuff. It is a reloader’s thing and one of the first lesson I was taught.

See you at the range! I’ll be the one wearing a machete (just kidding).

Spread the love

  1. I am finding that since my move here to South Carolina, ammunition ion just about ANYTHING is scarce. I should have stocked up more before I left Illinois. There was a little shop in Minooka that always seemed to have ammo at somewhat decent prices. I just can’t pay $75 for a box of 9mm.

    1. Ammoseek is great, and I very much appreciate their service.

However … even they cannot make ammo available when there is none.

They cover many online retailers, but a few of my go-tos don’t often show up. I’m particularly fond of Ammoman. Their prices don’t look great, sometimes, but shipping is free for orders over $100, and it usually comes out being pretty darned close.

  2. I don’t even bother looking. 5.56 is $800 a case if you’re lucky. I’m glad I stocked up but still I’d like to replenish. I have shot maybe 400 rounds of 5.56 this whole year and most of that was before March. Been looking at other calibers. 7.62×39 is $400 a case but at least you can find it.

I tend to plan ahead what I’m going to shoot at least 2 sessions out. I have 250 rounds of 5.56 meant for the first half of next year and I might pull some back.

  3. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (thecmp.org) is showing the following in stock on their e-store
    – .223 Rem
    – .22LR (Eley)
    – .308 Win
    – .30 Carbine
    – .38 Special
    – .40 S&W
    – .45 ACP

The catch is, you have to be eligible to buy it, by being a member of a CMP-affiliated club. Fortunately my local range is one such, so it was a simple member of sending the CMP a PDF statement from my club’s website, showing current membership. Delivery took a while (~1 month from placed to doorstep – they got slammed too), but it let me more-or-less replace what we were using to teach new shooters.

    1. Here’s a catch available to many: Glock Sport Shooting Foundation is an affiliated club. The GSSF affiliation number is 33138.

  4. I’ll have a couple hunnerd rounds of 5.56mm with me…
    Steel Cased Rooskie.
9mm and 12 gauge as well.
    Plus some handloaded 7.62X51mm (NATO)
    Let me know
Plus, I’ll be bringing Nestle Homemade Chocochip Cookies (hopefully I can make nuff tonight)

  5. The usual oddball hunting calibers are still available in KS as well as some of the leas common pistol calibers. The big surprise is that I have never seen .308 or 7.62×51 out of stock.

  6. The ripples of your ammunition shortage are felt way over here 😀

Most US Brands are out of stock for at least a couple of months and I guess after the current batches run out european manufacteres will ship more ammo to you so there will be less for us.

Maybe I should finally take that case of .223 home…

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
