So the regional Catalonian Government went full potato and declared independence. Madrid’s Central Government is gonna apply the law and strip them from their autonomous power… a dumb move that will inflame shit even more.
The smart move? Treat them like a country: Close the border and since they are not members of the EU, demand passport and visas. Cease all commerce till deals are made and that would require ambassadorship and a full diplomatic corps which they have not thought yet about having.
And demand payment in cash for goods and services till they open proper lines of credit.
That should be enough to have them back in the fold by July next year.
But the Spanish and their machismo overrode common sense… Oy!
Not sure what’s dumb about a people who have decided its necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them.
Not sure its dumber that since Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Spains Constitution to prevent such separation is invalid just as the King’s requirement was invalid, and the North’s unconstitutional demand was invalid, and there is nothing dumb or dumber about a people want to institute their own government separate from what others want.
What is dumb? That when you split from the Old Country, you better make sure you can provide the basics for your citizens. Catalonia does not produce enough foodstuff to feed its population, it does not own the means to produce power.
What else they have not thought about? Who is gonna do the defense of the new country so they don’t get taken over by the waves of Moors crossing Spain? Or you really think Madrid is gonna leave the Armed forces, Guardia Civil and National Police in Place? How about Hospitals? They are paid by the central goverment. I mean, The Generalitat can go full communist and confiscate them, but we know where is that going, right?

Happiness will last till they realize they don’t have what to eat. Safety will go out the window and the assholes they did not think shit through will have to answer to the people.
The interesting part? They more than likely won independence through normal means if the waited 10 more years and planned during that time. The last regular referendum gave them 52% of the vote.. they wear only 8% apart.
This shit that is going on? Machismo and wanted to make it in the History books rather than make history right.
PS: Only one country so far that seems may recognize the independence of Catalonia is Venezuela according to what the Asshole Maduro has been saying.
