Sheriffs throughout the nation should start a program to develop a Sheriffs Reserve. Get their names, run background checks, and give them some training, mostly laying down the law that they are not policemen, are not to do anything unless led by a real Sheriffs Deputy.
Maybe weed them out by requiring them to have a carry permit and take some courses like CPR, First Aid, Lifesaving, etc., to qualify. Add a monthly two to four hour drill and muster?
