Last night I heard four shots not so nearby as to go hot, but close enough for me to call 911 at 11:14 pm. Gave them my address for reference because I know they hate vague descriptions. Arrival time was 11:22 pm.

Eight minutes.

I know that since I did not declared I heard/saw people bleeding/screaming, it is not as urgent as SHTF call. So let’s make best case scenario 4 minutes and worst case 8 minutes. Either way is a long frigging time you have to be on your own helpless.

Once again, you are your own First Responder.

PS: Some of my friends in Facebook are amazed at how fat the response time was.

Damn.

  1. Shots fired is shots fired as the kids say (maybe, kids are strange) but what was the cadence? Fast unloading drive by, drunken sky shoot, giant mutant opossum or your local critter of choice panic shooting?

Increasingly the drunken/party sky shooting slow or one or two pops are being displaced by a handful of fast as they can go shooting here.

Anyone who does not think that 8 minutes is long should try holding their breath or holding a 20lbs kettle bell fully at arms length for that time. You appreciate the seconds.

  2. 8 minutes is mighty fast by rural standards. I live in a town of 43 square miles, and just a couple of full time police. Anything under 20 minutes would be fast in my book; at night when there probably is only one patrol car, if he’s at the opposite end of town the ETA would certainly exceed that. And we’re not even in the sparsely populated parts of the country.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
