Mark Kelly, the husband of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, went shooting yesterday after testifying in favor of additional gun control at the Oregon Legislature.

  1. Oh, c’mon now, Miguel. I understand your point, that being that Kelly along with his wife are heavily invested in the gun control movement and may be considered to be activists and here he is pictured firing a gun, but to say that him and those like him and his wife want all the guns for themselves is (and I’ll be kind) overblown, out-of-control rhetoric that most reasonable folks immediately see through and discount. Even the moderates on our side see it for what it is and it tends to marginalize us even further.

We need to stay on point and counter their laughable “gunsense” statements with even and rational arguments that don’t paint us as some kind of fanatical group that resorts to distortions and embellishments to get our points across. We don’t need to do it….so why do it?

    1. Considering that Kelly and his wife both associate with groups that would gladly disarm everyone but police and military I think the comparison is quite appropriate.

This photo is no different than the parody video with all the gun control celebrities.

    2. Bryan, it is my opinion that you’re spending too much time being condescending and thereby missing the point you claim to see. No, privileged elites don’t necessarily want all the guns for themselves. They want to be the only ones allowing themselves to use guns. Y’know, because they’re superior intellectually and morally. They are immune to our common-sense arguments because they know they’re smarter than that. Simpletons like that don’t respond to anything but force. So be ready and keep your powder dry.

  2. Kelly is just an overblown has-been. Most of what he says and does is just an attempt to get back in the limelight. I dearly wish he and Giffords would just go away.

  3. Is anyone allowed to use this range or does Mark do as I say not as I do Kelly getting special treatment??

  4. Obviously people who do not fear being attacked in any form nor any invasion of privacy nor property are the advocates of gun control – which, as we all know is contrary to our Constitution. Isn’t it interesting that one of the biggest proponents of gun control is Senator Feinstein, who has a CCW permit and has bodyguards?

  5. I would be interested to know whether the Portland police are bragging about the visit or if a pro gun officer was astute enough to see the hypocrisy.

  6. Seems to me he’s standing ON the 5-yard line (i.e. 5 yards in front of the firing line), which for safety’s sake means they must have closed the range during this photo shoot. After all, lane dividers would obstruct the camera’s view. That should help answer alcade’s question above; it appears PDX Police are bragging.

I don’t know the range rules, but considering it’s a police range in a city known for being fairly hostile to private citizens’ gun rights, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if it’s a closed range and Kelly is shooting there purely based on his “celebrity” status. As the range hours and rules are not posted on the PPB’s website – there’s no indication they even HAVE a range – which any public range would likely do, I’m doubly inclined to believe it’s a closed range.

    1. What would happen if any of us plebian “citizens” asked to use the range? Has anybody in Portland had the opportunity to ask the police to use their range? Or is it only available to the politically reliable and approved special people?

It would be interesting to see their reply.
Especially now that the Portland PD tweet was memory-holed!

  7. I would love to know what manner of handgun he fired; it would be supreme irony if he used the same model utilized by his wife’s assailant.

  8. I suspect that ranges like that are the only ones where he is welcome. I know if he were a member of my range, or brought as a guest and recognized, he’d be shown the door immediately.

  9. Gun controllers don’t want to get rid of guns altogether. They definitely want to keep their own guns and the weapons carried by their bodyguards.

I’m sorry that his wife was shot but her attempted assassination doesn’t mean that gun registration laws would have saved her.
