“For the last eight months I have been asking Oregonians to follow the letter and the spirit of the law and we have not chosen to engage law enforcement,” Brown said Friday. “At this point in time, unfortunately, we have no other option.”

The governor’s office cited emergency authority granted to her by Oregon law. Violators could face up to 30 days in jail, a fine of up to $1,250, or both.

Ore. governor: Police to enforce Thanksgiving COVID-19 limits

Because fascist is gonna fascist, I think I have a solution. Go to Goodwill and buy a bunch of black hoodies in different sizes for your guests. Get a bunch of lawn signs that say FUCK THE POLICE, BLACK LIVES MATTER, ACAB, DEFUND THE POLICE, SAY HIS NAME, FUCK TRUMP, and similar.  If the cops show up, announce loudly you are exercising your First Amendment rights and point at the 3 cases of beer bottles transformed into Molotov cocktails (fake, of course, but they don’t know that*).  Have Grandma Jane come out waving around a  cheap Chinese green laser and have the little ones toss firecracker.s

The cops will leave you alone and your will be held as a family hero for the most entertaining Thanksgiving in ages

  • You don’t have real Molotov cocktails because we all have that uncle who will either drink the contents or accidentally light one up. In either case, we end up with somebody going to the ER.

  1. I unfortunately live in the suburbs of Portland. The only thing worse right now than the Governor and her lockdown orders is that I know my neighbors are chomping at the bit to turn people in. They have been programmed very well to be terrified and to make sure everyone is “kept safe.” Don’t want to accidentally kill someone, as the Oregon PSAs told us back in March. Insert audio of a heart monitor and ventilator here. Nothing has changed since then. It’s only gotten worse.

For your viewing pleasure. It’s an oldie but a goodie: https://www.campaignlive.com/article/dont-accidentally-kill-someone-says-oregon-coronavirus-public-service-spot/1678630

I love that they included “your barista” in the PSA, even before “your grandmother”. So Oregon.

The hoodie and sign tip is excellent. I almost wish I had more than 6 people to invite to Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Love the blog!

  2. “For the last eight months I have been asking Oregonians to follow the letter and the spirit of the law and we have not chosen to engage law enforcement,” Brown said Friday. “At this point in time, unfortunately, we have no other option.”

First, what Dead J said. Doing nothing — letting Americans be Americans — is and always has been an option, but her inner fascist won’t allow that.

Second, we HAVE been following the letter and spirit of the law. IANAL, but a plain reading shows the letter and spirit of the law limit the governor’s authority to seize power in emergencies — and more specifically, limit her authority to extend “emergency” orders* or declare back-to-back crises ad infinitum — and she has vastly overstepped both. At best, her authority to shut it all down ended five months ago. The fact the 100% Democrat-controlled Oregon Supreme Court has upheld the restrictions doesn’t mean she’s right; it just means they both are violating the letter and spirit of the law.

So when Oregonian citizens violate Kate Brown’s orders — gathering for holidays, not masking, not social distancing, keeping businesses and the economy open — those citizens are adhering to the letter and spirit of the law. Kate Brown and the Oregon Supreme Court are not.

    * – Depending on which statute or Constitution clause she cites, she has 30 or 45 days initially, and can extend that an equal amount of time once

    1. Adding on:

It’ll be interesting to find out how inconsistently these “freeze” restrictions get applied (because it WILL be inconsistently applied).

Thanksgiving gatherings for white Christian and Jewish families, certainly.

Muslims? Latinos? LGBT+ gatherings? Antifa/BLM rioters?

      We’ll see.

  3. And, turns out that reputable studies indicates that asymptomatic individuals are not contagious.

For those that just want a synopsis:
    https://behindtheblack.com/behind-the-black/essays-and-commentaries/study-asymptomatic-and-secondary-infected-individuals-do-not-infect-others/

Yet, the petty tyrants will ignore these studies. Instead, they will listen to the local doctors and hospital administrators that have a vested interest in spreading fear. Most recently:
    https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/527258-trump-administration-to-begin-delivering-regeneron-covid-treatment-on
Specifically focus on the prioritization of delivery.
“The limited allocations to state and territorial health departments will be proportionally based on confirmed COVID-19 cases over the previous seven-day period. The information is based on data that hospitals and state health departments submit to the HHS COVID-19 response data hub. “
No incentive to inflate infection rates there….

    1. There have been several reports/whistle-blowers who say that hospitals get extra federal money for COVID deaths, that they don’t get for non-COVID deaths.

Some five-figure pay-out per incidence. (I want to say $23,000 per COVID death? But my memory is fuzzy there.)

No, no conflict of interest or incentive to conduct postmortem tests on patients that died of something else, just to see if they might also have had the ‘Rona and could be counted that way. None at all.

Nothing to see here. Everyone, back to your Facebook and America’s Got Talent now….

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
