  1. That reminds me of an editorial in a local paper, a couple of decades ago, in which the editor claimed that “force does not settle anything”. And he supposedly was a WW2 veteran. I wrote a letter in reply — which he published, I have to give him credit for that — commenting that Hitler might disagree with that.

  2. I used to subscribe to The Economist. It even played a part in my courtship with Mrs. B.: the first time I was over at her house, I noticed a copy on her living room coffee table (and obviously being read).

It’s always been a little left-leaning, but I noticed it getting really bad when Trump was running for office. I let my subscription lapse. Every so often I’ll thumb through a copy at an airport sundries shop, and each time I’m disappointed by the headlines alone.

But this … this takes the cake.

  3. “Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishfull thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms.”

  4. Hmm. Wonder if the Poles, circa 1918, got that memo? Or, the Israelis and Palestinians? Jordanians and Israelis?Aboriginal Americans, and European origin settlers? (and, other list goes on….)

  5. Stalin moved how many Eastern Europe countries borders westward after WW2? Russia into the Ukraine, Ukraine into Poland, Poland into East Germany. Ditto Byelorussia, Romania, Bulgaria and every other country Stalin had total control over. He moved those borders to provide more space between Russia and its enemies real and perceived, and to punish any enemies.

Stalin was also a leader that moved whole Ethnic National Populations across Russia, and killed any that complained. Just ask the Tatars and a dozen others.

Kruschev was the Soviet Leader that moved Crimea from Russia Proper to the Soviet Russian Province of Ukraine SSR.

  6. Dear English twatwaffles at The Guardian:

George Washington and Queen Victoria would like to have a word with you. Call your office.
And then, contact your headmasters about a refund of all tuition, you simpering ignorant jackasses.
