Do the snowflakes realize they are empowering racists by allowing them to co-opt a positive hand gesture that has been a part of American culture since the early 1800s? It means different things elsewhere. To some of my ancestors, I’m told, it signified the Evil Eye: “A curse on you and your children and the camel you rode in on.” Teaching in Latin America, I discovered the hard way that it was the sign of the maricon, and was definitely not taken as a sign of approval when I flashed it to the macho men I was there to teach.

In Italy that same sign means you are a cuckold and that is very insulting, specially if used against the males. In Venezuela, it meant “Zape gato” or “Zape” (Saah-peh) for short and you use it when you are witnessing or told a bad situation and you use the sign and the expression to ward off bad luck or even Evil Eye. Now, with the heavy Italian immigration to South America post WWII, you can imagine there were more than a couple of incidents where confusion led to fistfights. But by the time I was a kid, Italians were either ignoring the sign understanding it was not aimed at them or doing it themselves which was more hygienic that doing the spitting three times thing against bad luck.
The new political moral commissars are just desperate to feel insulted so they can use their little Twitter power. But since I was lucky to grow up among different cultures and learned a bit about them, I leave this message to the Social Justice Commissars.

The okay hand gesture is officially recognized as “OK” in PADI SCUBA diving. They teach that in courses. Hand signals are important in diving because you can’t speak under water.
Also the thumbs up in Arab cultures translates to “jam a thumb up your ass.” As you can imagine, there were a lot of miscommunications between US troops and Iraqis over there.
The OK signal being a racist anything is a successful troll that originated from 4chan specifically to get media and leftists to react this way. I remember seeing the threads where this thing started, long before the msm started reacting to it. The idea was that they’re such snowflakes that you can get em to react to anything on command, like dogs.
