Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

  1. Just think about the stuff other people do that because you ARE loved and respected that you, and people you hang with, would never do. 🙂

  2. Teaching moments not included. Plus I have experience when an RO makes a mistake like that and people think you are being treated different or is a conspiracy to cheat. Nothing kills a club faster than scoring doubts.

  3. When I was taking my classes for the Catholic rite of Confirmation, one of my favorite verses were Matthew 6:1-8

Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. / When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward. / But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: / that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward. / But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. / Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

It reminds us that showing off just means you’re haughty, attention-seeking, and insincere. The nun teaching it said it best. If I do a good deed and no one notices, take solace in the fact the Lord sees it, and if someone notices, act with humility.

  4. There’s a quote by John Wooden that goes “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.” I’ve always liked that quote, and found it a good model to live by.

  5. When I changed my way of living in ’08 I was challenged to do one kind thing for another every day, without expectation of anything in return and tell no one. My one exception to this is my standing challenge to others to join me and donate blood and platelets for the children at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

    1. For some reason, I find donating blood to be tremendous fun. Except for the finger stick, that hurts like hell.
