  1. Yeah, that’s what many of us in the tribe do on Christmas day, because nothing is open except Chinese restaurants (and, formerly, movie theaters). Unfortunately, my wife is a very sensitive msg detector, and we haven’t had a “really, truly, absolutely no msg” Chinese restaurant near us in about a decade.

We’ve been enjoying home-made food today. Fresh, hot banana bread at lunch, and stuffed cabbage for dinner.

As they say in Isreal, b’teiavon!

    1. In Fort Lauderdale I knew of a Chinese restaurant that went Kosher for Christmas.

Not that hard to do really, since Chinese cooking uses virtually no dairy. They just took shrimp and pork off the menu. I doubt they actually koshered the kitchen, but it was enough (you know how most Jews are into plausible deniability on kosher) to get the more conservative Jews to show up. On the 24th and 25th it was packed like a temple seder in there.

  2. Many years ago my wife and I were having a bad Thanksgiving holiday. Her ex had her kids for the holiday and my ex had my kids.

    F’ing depressing.

We decided to go to our favorite sushi house for dinner. When we got there the lights were on, kids of cars so wet headed in.

The owner greeted us at the door. Informed us that they were closed for the holiday.

Then invited us to join them for a feast.

Lots and lots of great seafood and other stuff. No turkey.

He said that we were regulars and that nobody should have to be alone on the holidays.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
