This case is so full of irony you could spread it on toast.
Family of Seattle BLM protestor who got hit and killed by car sues the city
The family of Summer Taylor, a ‘defund police’ protester who was killed on the I-5 freeway this year by a car during a protest, held a press conference today announcing a lawsuit against the City of Seattle and the State of Washington. They have alleged that there was police abuse during demonstrations and that state patrol failed to protect protesters on I-5 and that was what resulted in Taylor’s death.
Summer Taylor, 24, was hit by a car while protesting on I-5, which had been closed by the Washington State Patrol for the purpose of demonstrations after multiple nights of protesters shutting down the freeway.
The man that hit her is Dawit Kelete, an immigrant from Eritrea in Africa. He is another BLM activist and drove the wrong way up a ramp and hit the two women, and that what he did was not a political statement.
So what we have is a white, BLM activist, struck and killed by a black, African immigrant BLM activist, who was driving recklessly, the wrong way, down a closed highway, while protesting the police.
The family of the deceased is suing and going to get slammed by Warren v. DC and the established No Duty to Protect like a white Jaguar into a pink-haired white woman.
They are going to be almost as disappointed in the outcome of their suit as they are in their daughter’s life choices.
Wait wait wait … Roll back a moment.
Someone immigrated to the country and then immediately started protesting against it? Why come in the first place?
And yes, Warren vs DC … But expect a court fight up to at least the circuit court, and maybe even a win for the family, thanks to how these local courts behave.
I haven’t even heard that he was a BLM protestor, but there are several good reasons. One, you just moved to the US from a country where government troops with guns murder anyone who looks wrong at the government, you might get carried away with the fact that you CAN protest the government and not be too picky about whether you SHOULD protest the government. It’s a novelty. Second, a large percentage of these protestors are actually just people who think that going out to go marching in the streets or blocking highways with relatively no fear of any consequences sounds like a fun diversion, an enjoyable experience to talk about later. They don’t really BELIEVE it, they just think it sounds like fun. Same goes for the rioting. Plenty of kids think “hey, this is a golden opportunity, it’s not every day you get to go and play anarchy in the streets and swear at cops, and get to feel powerful and be part of a mob bullying people”. Third, as an Ethiopian, he was no doubt under pressure from African Americans who told him that he HAD to take their side, or else he’d be cut of and ejected from the Tribe and considered a traitor among his neighbors.
It ties into what was talking about eariler. I pointed out that in spite of “systemic racism”, the average recent immigrant from Africa is more wealthy and has a better job than the average white person. Which begs the question “how does this happen when white America, racist America, is systematically oppressing and repressing people without white skin”. This dude was joyriding in his BMW on a closed highway, and hits a protestor. And they blame the government. Maybe they SHOULD blame the government…for failing to stop the protestors and keeping them off the highways. “We’re suing because the police failed to stop out daughter from going out onto the interstate at night to take part in a protest; if the police had done their jobs, she’d still be alive”. And the sad part is that they’d be totally correct as far as that goes.
He wasn’t driving the wrong way, he was on the correct side of the highway. He entered using an exit ramp and then headed the correct way down the highway.
The state police closed the Interstate after the
protestersrioters blocked the Interstate for “multiple nights.” WTF? The state police acquiesced to the mob and closed the freeway? They should have moved in with bulldozers and cleared the trash but of course this is Washington State so not so much. I suspect the lawsuit will be settled out of court in the appeasement ideal of “Thank you sir, may I have another?”It’s always someone else’s fault.
Could not possibly be that their daughter was standing in the middle of a roadway, without paying any attention to her surroundings. No, it is the police’s fault for not stopping someone who knowingly, and deliberately drove the wrong way up an exit ramp, and then proceeded to drive into the crowd. The police are definitely to blame.
I doubt they expect to win the case. At the very least, it gives them ammunition against the police, something for the media to attack them with, distracts them and drains their funds, puts them even more on the defensive with even more requirements to fill instead of doing their job. It will be defeated in court, but that won’t be for a few years, and they can attack the police the entire type with help from the media. And then when they lose the media can sigh about how the fascist, racist American system refused to do any justice for the poor murdered martyr, etc.
But more likely they figure the city would prefer to pay them $500,000 to shut up rather than drag it through court. They won’t get their $10M, but $500,000 isn’t to be sneezed at. The government is very sensitive to public opinion right now, and they think they can shake the Free Money Tree by threatening to make a stir if they aren’t paid up. What’s the point in having a daughter killed if you can’t use it to get Free Money, after all?
