The thing is, the order did *not* ban diversity training. It says this:
“All agencies are directed to begin to identify all contracts or other agency spending related to any training on “critical race theory/9 “white privilege,” or any other training or propaganda effort that teaches or suggests either (1) that the United States is an inherently racist or evil country or (2) that any race or ethnicity is inherently racist or evil.”

Granted it might have been nights-and-weekends, but still. A colleague at work just got an MS in electrical engineering in two years, in the N&W plan. At a guess she only “graduated” because otherwise course credits were about to start expiring and she’d have to start retaking stuff.

No, not because it for a worthless degree, but because the “critical thinking” your average liberal arts major learns in college apparently did not stick.
Trump did not ban training in your field. He said Federal dollars cannot be used for it. Big difference. If a company chooses to use their own funding for this claptrap, they can do so.
Then again, this idiot probably thinks the President has total power, and can decide, on their own authority, to ban private individuals and companies from doing things they do not like.
Yes, teaching critical thinking is supposed to be what liberal arts colleges are all about. To what extent that is still true today is very much a question.
I don’t know this person went to a liberal arts college; I don’t know where the garbage she took is taught. As for critical thinking, I have a rather rude way of looking at it: if you pick this sort of major, you’re demonstrating you’re not capable of thinking at all.
That’s the bumper sticker mentality. Just like Trump restricting half a dozen countries filled w/ terrorists = ‘muslim ban’ and insulting MS13 = hates mexicans.
Nuance doesn’t make the feels.
When I was in high school every senior had to talk to the guidance counselor who would help you make good decisions for your future. It was much more than going to a four year collage or a two year collage or a tech school or just going to work, it was trying to find you a fit that would help you become a productive member of society. Yeah, that phrase use to be heard every where. “Productive member of society.”
That meant that when I expressed getting a BS in math, my counselor showed me what the job demand was for graduates with a BS in math. Basicily you could teach other people math. Same with a number of other interesting pure science subjects. I.e. “Sure, that sounds great, get your teaching certificate so you can actually make money with your degree.”
My first wife actually graduated from collage with a degree in history. Some obscure part that wasn’t really of interest to me. In all the time I’ve known here she has never gotten a job that had anything to do with her degree and as a mater of fact, no position where having a degree made one wit of difference in her getting hired or in her salary.
One of my favorite stories of the difference in attitude was that she decided to be an author. To that end she declared herself an author and started sending in these one paragraph “I will write this article for your magazine” letters to lots of magazines. She got nothing but rejections but for three that said “Feel free to send in your article and we’ll let you know if we want to buy it.” She was never published.
I had a publication approach me, tell me they needed an article but that they needed it within the next two weeks. I said “ok”, talked with my mentor to pick a subject, then wrote it and sent it in. It was accepted and published. I thought nothing of it, but it made my wife very upset that I was able to accomplish what she wanted to do without “working at it”.
I was asked because they publisher new my work as a computer geek. I had the chops. I’ve been using my time at university where I learned more about computer science than most to advance my career. I choose my major based on what I wanted to do PLUS what was likely to provide me with a good income. The ability to pay my way through life.
People like this dolt above looked at the job opportunities and said “Well that’s an easy career, telling white men they suck.” She didn’t learn a backup skill, she didn’t learn enough to do anything more than flip burgers or say “Welcome to Walmart”.
The education system failed her because she wasn’t interested in an education. And because the system failed her, she made a poor choice in her major.
(The other part of this is that we had to think about how we were going to pay for collage. Today most kids think of collage as “free” because they’ll get a loan they will never actually have to pay back)
