A 78-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a suspected burglar was stabbed to death.
The homeowner discovered two intruders in Further Green Road, Hither Green, south-east London, at about 00:45 BST.
One suspect, armed with a screwdriver, forced the man into his kitchen where a struggle ensued and he was stabbed, Scotland Yard said.
The 38-year-old was taken to hospital by paramedics but was pronounced dead at 03:40.
The pensioner, who suffered bruising to his arms, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He remains in custody at a south London police station.
Police said they were called to the property over reports of a burglary where they found a man with a stab wound to the upper body.
The dead man’s next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination would take place “in due course”, the Met added.
The second suspect remains at large.

Wee hours of the night, two bad guys break into your house, threaten you with a deadly weapon, rough you up. You had the wherewithal to defend yourself and one of the criminals pays the ultimate price for bad victim selection and the Crown in all its wisdom declares you a suspect of murder.
Isn’t ironic that in the land of knights and castles that the Castle Doctrine does not exist?
But what do you expect of a country that taxes the use of TV broadcasting and even streaming and has enforcement units out in the streets to catch the hideous criminals who do not pay the tax?

Remember that this is the country where, back when we were busy adopting the 2nd Amendment, the right to bear arms was restricted to those “suitable to their condition or degree”. This is exactly what the left if pushing for: the right to bear arms restricted only to “the right people”.

It might be wise for the subjects of Great (gaping chasm of suck and fail that once was) Britain to research means of making bodies disappear, and form understandings with friends as to who will assist in such endeavors.

Anyway, a story to illustrate how ludicrous it has become.
A local farmer called the cops because he was watching some people steak his farm equipment. And because criminals have more rights than the law abiding, he did not confront the theives
The cops show up, conveniently, about half an hour after some 30 thousand Pound Sterling of equipment was taken, and the write the farmer a citation for leaving mud on the road.
