Empire State Shooting: Police responsible for the 9 injured civilians.

* All nine wounded bystanders were struck by NYPD bullets that were aimed at Johnson, whose handgun jammed when he tried to shoot at the officers. The victims were five women and four men.

And no, I am not gonna lay the blame entirely on the officers. They had a crappy job to do and did it. I will lay blame on politics and very probably a lack of proper training.

Quote from the 2010 NYPD Annual Firearms Discharge Report:

All NYPD service pistols are “double action only” (DAO), meaning they have a two‐stage trigger pull for each round fired (unlike single‐action weapons, which can be
“cocked,” resulting in a one‐stage trigger pull, which is smoother and easier). Additionally, all NYPD weapons are also modified to have a heavier‐than‐stock 12‐lb trigger pull; this diminishes the likelihood of unintentional discharges but also affects aiming.

A very hard trigger pull combined with fast firing will result in bullets missing its intended target and the powers that be knew. The idea that a gunsmithing solution is a substitute for good training is irresponsible. NYC will surely get sued by the victims and probably will lose big time. Unfortunately I doubt that the White Shirts will do the right thing and remove politics from firearms training. And if you had any doubts about the stupidity of politics in training, the following quote is also from the same report:

All officers who discharge their firearms are sent to a firearms‐retraining course, regardless of the circumstances of the discharge.

So even if the shooting was “good” the officer is forced to retrain and I can imagine that it should feel like they did something wrong even when they did not. It has to affect the officer no matter what that he is treated like he just shot the Pope.

Life Saving techniques cannot be left in the hands of politicians. But the chance that NYC Politicians actually will call Gun People and address the problems is right there with Mayor Bloomberg throwing his full support for National Concealed Carry tomorrow before noon.

I might be off line tomorrow….a tad windy.

With Tropical Storm Isaac coming, my access to the interwebs might be affected for lack of electrical power. I doubt it since all models and gut feeling indicates that the center of the storm/hurricane will miss us and our grid is subterranean, but something may happen just the same.

If the track changes and Isaac decides to hit mainland, I’ll be observing & pondering if hurricane panels are necessary. I will need at least a prediction of 85 mph or more to get me going. So far the predictions only top gusts of 65 mph or as we call it down here: “Windy.”

The Gun Motivator is already scheduled for its usual date and time. If I see something interesting to post, I’ll go ahead and post it too.

And, of course, an appropriate reminder for my Floridian brethren.

 * Note: Other meals, travel and lodging are to be paid by attendee.

They are keeping the list of speakers tight to the vest which usually means good surprises. I saw somewhere that Mark O’Mara, George Zimmerman’s lawyer will be one of the speakers and that alone will be a very interesting event.

Let me know if you are going and see if we can organize some sort of meet of Bloggers & Readers. The closest restaurants are inside the Airport Terminal which does not give me a warm fuzzy but there are more locations a bit away.

Also, I am not sure but depending if the speakers on Sunday are not something I might be interested in listening to, I am planning of dropping by The Gun Shop Inc in Leesburg, Fl for their regular IDPA Match. It is an indoor range and they shoot Low Light/No Light scenarios so, if you are interested don’t forget to bring your tac light (no weapon’s mounted lights in IDPA) and be ready to have fun and learn how hard it is to shoot in low light conditions. Don’t worry if you never shot IDPA before, take a chance and try the sport. Let me know if you are also interested in doing the shoot.

CSGV: Hopscotching to the wrong conclusion.

Caught this one last night:

These idiots probably did not bother to read the article. They read the title, saw it was in USA Carry and defaulted to the Gun Owners are Racists mode. The sad part is that some of the comments are the ones exuding bigotry but that is not unusual.

Are there idiots in the extremes looking for a racial war? You have to be either living in Disneyworld or a certified idiot to say no. That some of those idiots will attempt to get something started? I have to say it is a distinct possibility because there are always morons playing bi-color baccarat with the race card.

If I were a betting man, I’d lay cash for something to happen in Central Florida during/after the Zimmerman Trial. Both set of idiotic race baiters will congregate there, one will do something stupid to the other and the fecal matter will hit the Tropical Depression. And both sides will say: “They started it!”

And just remember you do not have to take crap from either side. Politely remind them to go away and if they do not….. be polite.

How to get more women into shooting competition.

With one of this at every sanctioned match: The coolest port-a-potty. It even comes with A/C!

I checked out the website and their set up is way nice for those of us used to the blue plastic box.

The first club that gets one of this for a sanctioned match will forever be loved by Lady Shooters everywhere. Double if they don’t let guys use it.
