In Iowa, some believe the Blind shouldn’t have guns.

And apparently it includes those who work for the Blind.

The Register became aware that a handful of Iowans with visual impairments can carry weapons in public because county sheriffs and their staffs recalled issuing those permits. Sheriff officials in most of the cases said they were uncertain about the extent of the visual impairments.

Clancy, superintendent of the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School, said the range of sight among people who are classified as legally blind varies greatly. He believes there are situations where such applicants can safely handle a gun.

However, he also expressed concerns.

“Although people who are blind can participate fully in nearly all life’s experiences, there are some things, like the operation of a weapon, that may very well be an exception,” Clancy said.

First, how come it is BLIND when it comes to guns but “visually impaired” for other stuff? Second: Nobody expects (including the visually impaired shooters) to be taking 25 yard shots, but that does not mean they cannot use their guns in a defensive manner, specially when a bad guy thinks they are easy pickings and get a wee bit to close to the intended victim.

The good part starts at 1:40

And also, it is their gorramed right to carry a gun, OK?

Moms Demand Action but not Math.

MDA MATHThis would be version 397 of the well-laughed Kellerman study from 1986. By now even Kellerman does not want to be associated with it. The original stat was something like 22 or 24 times which was so laughable it started to got downgraded by Anti Gunners. Still, anybody with a semester of statistics is actually shocked that the study was even published, specially since Kellerman refused to peer-review it, but that does not mean that the Gun Control Cultists will stop repeating it.

With 350 million firearms in the hands of U.S. Citizens, it would mean that the chances of “you or someone you love will be murdered” is about 1,050,000,000 or just above the one billion murders mark. If the Kellerman study was right in any way shape or form, it would mean that before Saturday noon, the population of the United States would be murdered three times over and we had to include some Canadians in the mix to complete the numbers.

Math is logic and logic is anathema to those who exist purely on feelings and are intended to do stuff for our benefit whether we like it or need it.

Florida Lizards….

Jason Forgey and his friends came across one massive gator in Seminole County last month. They were out on the water for hours. Forgey says it took two encounters to catch the alligator.

When Forgey and his friends finally captured it, they took some pretty amazing pictures: a gator that was 13 feet long and weighing 737 pounds!

A Kind Word and a 2×4: Race? what is race?

What most people refer to as “race” is in point of fact, my fellow germs and virii..Tribe. Ergo ‘racism’ is ‘tribalism’. In other words, differences of opinion and fighting between the various tribes of man. There are as many different tribes and kinds of tribes as…well I won’t say as there’s stars in the sky, or fish in the sea because that would be an exaggeration. However there’s a just a whole lot of different tribes and kinds of tribes out there in the world of man.

Book Review #2: On Combat, The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace.

On Combat, The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace by Dave Grossman.

September 2013 003Long overdue on reading this book. Those who know better than me call this book the compliment or second part of Col Grossman’s first best seller “On Killing.”

But first, a warning: This is a book oriented to active Police and Military. As cool as it sounds to be considered a Warrior, if you are just an every day Civilian. The idea of thinking oneself in terms of Warrior can be used against you in a court of law, can get you doing stupid stuff that may get you in trouble. We as Civilians work under a different and more restrictive set of rules when it comes to the use of deadly force. Let us not forget that.

After that, is the book any good for us Civvies? Oh heck yeah. Just section 1 about how the human body reacts to the stress of a deadly force encounter is well worth the price of the book and section 2 on the altered states of consciousness or how our perception of reality is distorted by the stress, adrenalin, etc is 100% pure Belgian chocolate icing on the cake. Understanding what our bodies and brain will do under duress can help us be better prepared for when the need arises. Section 4 dealing with PTSD is another jewel we need to consider and plan ahead for, specially since we civilians do not have an organizational support as the Military or the Police do. This is one example of the great difference between military and LEO vs. Civilians as they more likely will have a close-knit group of fellow warriors that will give them tacit support, free legal back up and degree of isolation from the worst of society’s screaming mimis while a civilian will have to deal pretty much on his own with costs and external pressure plus dealing with the psychological aspects of the confrontation. Remember that we only have a trifecta of people that we can (mostly) talk to about what happened without legal consequences: Doctor, Lawyer and Priest. By the way, it would be great for you to make sure you have one of them or all three available and sure to understand what is you are maybe going through after a Deadly Force encounter. It would not help you emotionally if you were to find that your preacher is a rabid anti-gun bastard that would have no problem using you as example of devil incarnate on this earth. Check all local laws, etc, etc, etc.

So, another book that should be in your Self Defense section of the home library.

And I am officially out of shelf space and the wife ain’t too happy about bumping into books everywhere 🙂
