When it comes to gun ownership in the United States, nowhere comes close to the state of Wyoming. With 196 registered firearms for every 1,000 residents, it ranks as America’s most gun-friendly state by a considerable distance. Even though Wyoming is awash with guns, one for every five residents, its violent crime rate is relatively low compared to other states. Nevertheless, a high rate of gun suicide is still cause for serious concern.

It does not take chicken-entrails-reading to figure out the Opposition will double and triple down on going the I-594 way and flood the states with gun control propositions under the disguise of Universal Background Checks. I do want to warn ahead of time that bitching about the NRA not doing anything about it is the cop-out of the Lazy: This has to be taken on by the state Gun Rights organizations. It is time to stop thinking about the NRA as the Gun Owners equivalent of government’s social programs.

But I also want to point out that there is a good chance that we will be fighting a new and exacerbated amount of Media Misinformation via both Traditional and Social. We have done rather well in my opinion at the Social Media level, but the Antis are not dumb and eventually learn from their mistakes. It is our duty to push them to commit new ones and they are already prepping themselves for those mistakes.

Also be ready to see a new level of shamelessness applied to the media. Two recent events have left me scratching my head at how bold and uninterested in the truth the Liberal/Progressive branch can be as long as their message gets through and accomplish their goals.  First was the Mike brown shooting where we saw the catchy slogan “Hand Up, Don’t Shoot” that even after the forensic evidence and witness testimony showed it was a load of baloney, it was and it still is being pushed as the truth.

The second one was the UVA Rape story in Rolling Stone Magazine. A fake account of a rape committed by a fraternity that was not properly investigated by the magazine prior publication and led to the fraternity to be punished, kangaroo-type courts established to deal with alleged rape accusation with no possible defense for the accused  and a country-wide uproar about rape on campus. That the story has proven to be false and Rolling Stone had to issue a retraction did nothing to temper the emotions on the issue and people kept repeating the lie even after exposed. Why? because it is not the original story that mattered but the “social cause” in itself that needed to be advertised and augmented (apparently the statistics given about campus rapes are also suspicious) and something as pitiful and useless as the truth should not get on the way of the cause.

As way ox example, we have Doonesbury cartoonist Garry Trudeau who in a recent strip had the UVA Rape allegation repeated well after it was found to be a lie. His excuse for doing so was twofold: one was that the cartoon had been done a month prior and events overtook before correction was possible, which makes sense if we were still living in the era of the Pony Express. Either that or Mr. Trudeau had problems with his AOL Dial Up account so he could sent a corrected strip or even a new one to his editors.

But as good Leftie, he had to preach and by doing so, we can figure out the real reason why the cartoon went uncorrected:

“Jackie’s story was not the focus, only the setup for commentary on institutional conflict of interest in adjudicating sexual assault, an issue that did not disappear with the credibility of the article,”

He is telling us “You blithering fool! Bad stuff is happening and it does not matter if a lie is used, it is still the truth, you simple moron!” And he is not alone but thousands upon thousand of mini echo chambers across social media keep repeating the same lie in order to make it true by osmosis to a cause.

So I do expect similar things applied to our side of the conflict as they all tend to follow the same rules of engagement. Expect to see news and stories about UBCs as the best thing that has happened to humanity since the discovery antibiotics and Reality TV. Our strength resides with the Truth, our numbers and the conscious effort of not propagating bullshit because it came in the form of meme. If we mess up, we admit, apologize, correct and carry on because our biggest weapon in this fight is the ability of the rest of the Citizens to value honesty over shock and flashy advertising.

And to quote certain space gunslinger: “You know why? Because we are so… very… pretty.”

This one of the many new faces in the Gun Culture. You may agree or disagree with her looks of other parts of her lifestyle, but she is one of us. We may disagree on BBQ,  have no idea about online gaming, prefer steel over plastic, go Soccer instead of Football, but our tent is HUGE and everybody fits.

So it is up to old farts to be polite as we were taught, smile and point to the refreshments. The New Farts get to smile back and absorb the history of the Fight they do not know yet but will need for the future when they themselves become Old Farts.
