Venezuela: They are shocked that Gun Free Zones are not working.
(Pepole) Not complying with Gun Free Zones, that is the title of the article. And theses are not your wimpy sign-only GFZs but as per the law, anywhere where it is mandated by the law to post, they must have metal detectors and/or security personnel to check for guns.
The problem has been that in a socialist country where only the very selected and very rich with armed bodyguards can afford go to a good restaurant or night entertainment locale. These clients are basically the only thing that are keeping whatever places are still afloat and they take umbrage if you tell them that legally they cannot bring their guns inside. So the owner of the establishment is caught between obeying the law and going bankrupt or ignoring it and make a living.
And the really poke-you-in-the-eye detail? Many of the Very Rich that go out at night with armed bodyguards are from the upper echelons of the Government.
For Thee But Not For Me.
And the Number One Reason to go to the SHOT Show

There are a lot of sites to see at the 37th edition of the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show in Las Vegas. Among the more eye-catching are the ever so diligent ladies on the showroom floor who do their very best to highlight and promote new products, equipment and, of course, guns. Here are some photos of the spokeswoman we were lucky enough to meet and chat with at SHOT Show 2015.

The Year Of The AK.
Is it 1945, or 2015?
I’ve been asking myself that question since SHOT Show’s Industry Day at the Range, where some of the rifle-related products generating the most buzz were the AGL Defense AK trigger, the Galil ACE carbine and pistol (chambered in 7.62×39 and using AK magazines), and the CMMG Mk47 “Mutant,” a hybrid of AK and AR technologies that also ran standard 7.62×39 ammunition AK magazines.

Two things I want to add to Bob’s article: 1) There is a huge AK fandom in the land of Milk and Honey. But since they were yucky looking AKs they did not make the cut with the cool kids that take shiny pics for magazines. We did not have a lot of toys to play with, but some paid attention to us even if they were ridiculed by the AR Crowd (TAPCO comes to mind) as cheap. Hell the whole system was cheap… and reliable! To this date the AR reliability controversy is alive and well whole AK owners are reminded to clean their rifles after every presidential election.
2) Between the ATF changing the regulations for import of the AK part kits to the final prohibition of importing AKs from Russia by this administration, the only thing it did was to create a vacuum which it never fails to be fed by local talent. Lo and behold, the law of unintended consequences works again.
I expect soon mass-produced and cheap steel case 7.62 x 39 produced in the US, or at least cases that are boxer primer compatible.
CNBC appears to be shocked that women actually like to defend themselves.
Guns have long been a man’s world. But as growth in the firearm industry slows down, gunmakers are increasingly focusing on women to boost sales—and that bet is starting to pay off.
The number of women in the U.S. who practiced target shooting at gun ranges jumped 60 percent, to 5.4 million, between 2001 and 2013, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), an industry trade group…
…
The rise in firearms sales to women is largely tied to self-defense, said manufacturers. More women, especially younger ones, want to ensure that they’re protected at all times.
“Today’s woman is very interested in being able to look out for herself and her family,” says Eveland
via Gun makers’ big bet on women pays off.
Beside the obvious self-defense, target practice and even hunting, here is a list compiled by one of the top ladies in the gun world, Limatunes:
And women like guns because …
# 11 Gun don’t leave brass all over the toilet seat. (as per Gail P.)
10# A gun doesn’t complain when you take it shopping. Even to buy “personal” products.
9# You can make a gun dress in whatever you think it will look best in and it doesn’t complain about itching, scratching or that you’re “not accepting it the way it is.”
8# A gun is specific on what it wants for dinner.
7# A gun will always be there when you need it.
6# Guns don’t threaten to rip the arms off of other guns you look at.
5# Guns don’t go off by themselves or with other guns and decide to do REALLY STUPID stuff.
4# You can take a gun to the gunsmith without it complaining that it’s just “a flesh wound.”
3# A gun maintains the same shape and size no matter how much you feed it.
2# Even if you let other girls handle your gun it will always come back to you (even if it takes a little effort to get it back).
#1 A gun knows the perfect answer to all those tough questions we women ask: shut up and lay there until she needs you.
Update: # 11 Gun don’t leave brass all over the toilet seat. (as per Gail P.)
The only way I will accept Universal Background Checks
There is discussion about UBC and apparently there is a camp that says we should give up some and accept the idea in order to get some control over it. My take is as follows: You want UBCs? The Opposition has to give up a lot. And they should as they keep telling us this is the solution to end all gun problems.
So, what do I want in exchange for UBCs? here is my initial list:
- Basically goodbye to GCA 68. I’ll leave you with the chance to deny violent felons from owning guns, same for the criminally insane. No more ATF form 4473 or equivalent or any form of registration plus the rest of the idiocy in it.
- Background checks for those with concealed weapons permits are not needed. You walk in, pick your gun, show CWP, pay and leave.
- Goodbye NFA 34. The National Firearms Act is as obsolete as the Volstead Act.
- National Reciprocity.
- Transfer of a gun is defined as the sale or exchange of goods in value of the gun. Not this crap they are trying to pull of loaning a gun requiring a UBC.
- Access to NICS by civilians. I don’t need a third-party charging me a nasty fee for doing something that can be done through the internet or with a regular phone.
There are other things that may be included or are better suite to be fixed at the state level, but I am comfy with this exchange.
And let’s stop with the carrots and sticks. I am OK if you are a mule and need that kind of behavioral manipulation, but don’t assume everybody else goes for the same.
