The Bible, Guns And Self-Defense

But one would have to be completely illiterate of dozens of Biblical passages to suggest that God opposes the concept of people possessing and using weapons. I’d like to highlight just a few such passages that not only establish clear examples of the concept of self-defense, but more importantly, they teach a principle any responsible person should incorporate into their own lives. The stories of Esther and Nehemiah both highlight the principle of self-defense and how these two individuals, greatly used by God, would not have prevailed, but for the role of weapons, and the personal ownership and use of arms by ordinary citizens.

We are getting less and less Anti Gunners using religion as an excuse for Gun Control. I have covered this before, but this article is well written and another round of mental ammunition to use against the pharisees.

Nobody needs an “Assault Weapon” for self-defense. Jewelry store owner disagrees.

In a hail of gunfire, Conroe jewelry store owner Jeffery Turner Jr. made the decision to shoot back – with his AK-47 rifleat four men who opened fire on his customers and staff during an attempted robbery Monday afternoon.
In the aftermath of the bullet spray, one robber lay dead in the doorway among shattered glass; while Turner, his employees and customers were left shaken but unharmed. The three other robbers fled the scene in the Conroe West strip center in the 4800 block of Texas 105 West.
“You always have a right to defend yourself, especially when the robber shoots at you,” said Turner’s attorney E. Tay Bond, who said all the witnesses and Turner reported the four men started shooting first. “Jeff does keep an AK-47 for defense purposes.”

Good guys win again. I love happy endings…

Book Review: Brushfire Plague – Retribution by R.P. Ruggiero.

(click here for my review of Brushfire Plague and here for Brushfire Plague – Reckoning.)

As it states in the cover, it is the final book of the trilogy and a fitting conclusion to the story. It is a much darker book that the previous two and we are talking about an End of the World story here. Instead of action (don’t worry, you still get plenty) you get to observe the toll that leadership and honor can inflict on a man. Cooper Adams is taxed with his responsibility as a leader of the revolt, as a man and as a father. To coin a phrase, the weight of the surviving country rests on his shoulders and he might fail as he fear his son is becoming a psychopath and is torn by his impulses.

Not giving away the end, but R.P. did not disappointed me with a trite ending. So, the book (and the trilogy) gets my unimportant seal of approval.

The first book in the Brushfire series is available in Amazon Kindle for a whole $0.99 (yes, R.P.’s evil way to get you hooked.) Also available in old school, dead tree format which is the way it will survive the End of the World 🙂 Go buy some books so we can get R.P. to write some more.

(Disclaimer: R.P. has sent me his books for review free of charge. The reviews I give are because I like the book or at least deem it important to read. I have received other books that will not appear in the blog because I was not particularly fond of them but considered that a bad review was not constructive. If I have to pay for the book and sucks, all bets are off.)

They are coming….

Any semblance of basic respect is done and buried. It is now not only OK to thwart political speech that is not approved, you can go full brown-shirt and attack people who are in the other side of the political field as long as you belong to the right (left) political party.
Don’t get me wrong. If they catch these idiots, the “full” process of the law will be applied and a slight slap on the wrist will be all that the “yutes” will get, but appearances will be covered with a slight of watercolor legality to claim justice was made.

More of this is what we will have to expect from a Democrat on the White House. If you thought Obama was a petty and resentful asshole, imagine Hillary, her long history of dying friends and imagine what will she do to her enemies.

And she has declared us her enemies.

“I don’t shoot IDPA because…”

By now, I am used to the cyclical IDPA bashing rants that occur in forums and social media. I don’t even bother anymore to try and make people understand why things are done one way or why competitors like to use vests. I am willing to bet that 90% of the naysayers have never attended IDPA matches because they are embarrassed to perform poorly and they rather go to the static range and put a lot of holes in a target. What made this particular discussion hilarious was that some of the civilian badmouthers had taken tactical rifle classes and, in the past,  had shared photos of them sporting all kinds of tactical gear attached to their bodies. Apparently they think that if somebody breaks in the middle of the night, they will dress like a SWAT operator in less than five seconds, but a photographer vest at a shooting competition is unrealistic.  SMH.
My take is: If the great late Jim Cirillo thought it was a great shooting sport, who the hell am I to disagree?

Or for that matter, Massad Ayoob:

” If you worry about shooting a match and “Oh My God! I’ll never get over it if I come in dead last,” consider you are pretty close to the one in a million people who is willing to test their skills at this. If you ever do come dead last, you still came out ahead of a few hundred thousands of people who thought they were cool but didn’t have the guts to get out there and test themselves like you just did.”
