Crimes against humor
I was watching some knife reviews on the YouTube when I got hit by an ad I couldn’t skip. It is for a new sitcom called American Housewife.
This is the promo that I saw:
I was instantly boiling with hate. Look at that. In what universe does three kids coming into the master to wake up mom not wake up dad? I what universe does mom at some point not wake up dad for help? Then dad comes down stairs having just enjoyed his “nine hours” while mom obviously did not get a full night, and look at the look at absolute contempt on mom’s face for her husband for his night’s sleep.
That face is pure hate for her husband. Hate. Why? Because she didn’t wake up her husband to ask him for help.
Typical sitcom anti-dad bit. How bad could this show be really? Worse than you could possibly imaging. Here’s the full promo:
She screwed up with her son? Why? Because he reads Robb Report? Because he understands economics? Because he wants to go to business school, which requires good grades and hard work, and will provide him with a chance at a good career? Because he’s a budding Republican? Just soak in the look of hate she gives her son because he has the audacity to have financial goals and wants to work hard to achieve them.
She hates her rich neighbors and their lifestyles with big houses and boats. She moved to the neighborhood because it has a great public school for her daughter. I guess it never occurred to her that it is her rich neighbors and big, expensive houses that pay the extremely high property taxes (both the state and the actual city of Westport) that pay for the fancy public school that is helping her daughter.
Because irony isn’t dead, the promo for the YouTube trailer for American Housewife was a promo for American Housewife. This is the promo for the promo:
This is a scene from when she is dropping her youngest off at school. She hates the other moms. That face is full of hate. It is obvious that the elementary age children of those moms are a first kid, while her’s is the last kid. That’s what, a 10 year age gap, at a minimum. I looked up the actress who played the mom and she’s only 35, which floored me, she looks like – and acts like – she’s 45 (the actor that plays her husband is 49 so it’s not unreasonable to guess that she’s in her 40’s). The actress who plays her eldest is 14, so mom was 21 when she had her first. So when mom quips “who thinks a mother of three should have an ass like a 19 year old?” the answer is, nobody, of course, but when you have your first at 21, it’s not a stretch.
Other people have noted that this show seems to make a lot of fat jokes. The NY Times did a better break down, though they are more tolerant than I.
Katie has contempt for all those well-toned bodies in Westport. To her, fitness equals shallowness and obsession with wealth. Counter one set of stereotypes by promoting another? That might work in more skilled hands, but here it just makes for sour, spiteful comedy.
At least Katie is an equal-opportunity hater. No one escapes her disdain, including her children, especially the two older ones (Meg Donnelly and Daniel DiMaggio), who she feels are in danger of being converted to Westportian elitism…It’s hard to embrace Katie as a heroine for the powerless when she’s so self-absorbed.
They didn’t notice the anti-husband, anti-family, or anti-conservative messages in the show. It’s so much worse than just having a fat problem. It has a problem with everything. This show is about a woman that hates everything and everyone in her life, including her husband, children, and self. Her life is a seething mass of envy. She is a horrible person who deserves no sympathy.
This show is so un-funny that it poisoned the humor of the great Diedrich Bader. This show is a crime against humor. This show is poison. The creators and writers of this show should be taken to the Hague and charged with crimes against humanity.
Smoke shop clerk fires at would-be robber – Rule Four approved.
Raleigh, a clerk at the smoke shop, posted security camera footage online recently of an Aug. 25 attempted robbery at the store. On the video, a man comes through the front door with a gun in hand and threatens Raleigh. (Note: Raleigh did not disclose his last name.)Raleigh takes a step to the left of the cash register and grabs a firearm, shooting at the attempted robber and chasing him out of the store.
“I took one step to the left and let one loose on the ground near him,” Raleigh said. “Westheimer is only about 50 feet in front of the store so I shot at his calves. I didn’t want to hurt anybody going by the store.”

When I read this, I immediately remembered Jim Cirillo explaining that the Steakout Squad would shoot armed suspects in the ass and legs because of the fear of an errant bullet ending up in the busy streets of New York and hitting and innocent.
Not only a successful case of armed self defense, but Raleigh gets extra brownie points for applying Rule Four.
Clint Smith “Shoot them in the crotch.”

When a prestigious school whores for money.
For more than 20 years, the Center for Gun Policy and Research at Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health has been dedicated to reducing gun-related injuries and deaths through the application of research methods and public health principles. Daniel Webster, who directs the center, says the gun issue is neither straightforward nor easily approached.

I am just going to give you two examples. First and not unusual, manipulated numbers:
It is obvious that the author of the “article”, Greg Rienzi, figured nobody would dare to fact check against established sources like the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report.
And next is this beautiful paragraph that sent me laughing for a couple of minutes:
He adds that the National Rifle Association of America is incredibly effective, with a lot of help from media. When the Hopkins center conducts surveys on specific gun policies, such as expanded background checks and restrictions on individuals with a restraining order or multiple drunk driving offenses, 70 percent or more of gun owners and a similar percent of Republicans support changes.
That is right folks! We own the media even though 90% of the top newspapers in the country and staunchly pro-gun control and anti NRA. I knew we were powerful and had lots of cash to pay reporters, editors, bloggers and Twitter drones (cash which I have not seen to this day after 8 years gun-blogging) but I had no idea we exercised such a commanding control over the News Corporations of the country.
This is what happens when monies for a University is directly tied to a politically influential individual with zero honor. To paraphrase W.E.B. Griffin: If Bloomberg signs your checks, when he says “poop” you immediately squat and make grunting noises. Maybe I should change the title of the post to “When a formerly prestigious school whores for money.”
Where discourse goes to die
After my last post on Cocks Not Glocks, I found myself scrolling through the Facebook page of the Cocks Not Glocks founder Jessica Jin.
Her page is where reason and discourse go to die. Jessica Jin is a Social Justice Warrior. Those who fight for the advancement of SocJus do so knowing that they have no obligation to be rational. In fact, according to the most SocJus website ever, rational discourse is racist and used to oppress minorities. Of course being rational doesn’t get you a full coverage article in Cosmo and acknowledgment on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show when you are a 25 year old music major.
Ms. Jin’s anti-gun methodology is not just an attack on gun rights. It is an attack on the fabric of this nation. No, that is not an understatement. She claims to “fight the absurd with the absurd.” However concealed carry is not absurd. Right now all 50 states and Washington DC have some form of concealed carry. Only nine states and DC are may issue. There are approximately 14.5 million CCW permit holders in the US, almost 5% of the population. Beyond numbers, there are real social and Constitutional issues at play. How can the “right to keep and bear arms” be fully realized if one cannot bear arms in public? What is the effect of CCW on crime statistics, domestic terrorism, etc?
Jin’s answer to all of this: big rubber penis!
This response to a serious issue is asinine. Imagine if were used in any other political topic:
Immigration reform, and border security – big rubber penis!
Financial sector reform and banking regulations – big rubber penis!
Taxation, healthcare, and the relationship to unemployment and labor force participation – BIG RUBBER PENIS!!!
In this case, the side that wins is not the side that makes the best points or rational arguments, but the side that is the most obnoxious and berating. It is the side that brings the most clowns.
This type of spectacle only serves to worsen the political dialog in this country. It doesn’t add anything productive to the conversation, and the more the media focuses on it, the worse it makes everything. With Jin, anti-gun buffoonery may be her metier, but she does not hold back the distasteful ridiculousness when it comes to conservatives or organizations on the other side of the aisle. Here is Jin homesteading scatological domain names to associate them with people and groups she doesn’t like.
The epitome of SJW class.
It is in her anti-gun and anti-concealed carry activities that her ignorance and hate congeal into a unpalatable aspic of ugliness.
The military clouded with business to come up with a Frankenstein [monster] in the form of the AR-15, which is like selling rat poison in baby food jars? And of course, to her, he people buying these guns are “n00bs with rage issues,” not to mention her negative assessment of the firearms industry and the people that work in it. Virtually nothing in what she said about how the gun industry works in her rant was accurate, but that doesn’t stop her from vomiting up this rant to the accolades of her followers, who regard her as an expert in this subject because big rubber penis.
When someone confronts her with something approaching a modicum of reason, questioning big rubber penis as an argument*, she falls back on the classic crybully tactic of claiming victimhood from mansplaining. When called out on her irrational and obscene argument, she fires back with an irrational and sexist argument.
*”Big rubber penis” I must concede, is a better irrational justification than “because [current year]”
She does this multiple times. She never explains how big rubber penis is supposed to work. How it is supposed to change hearts and minds. If you say it won’t and that her tactics are sophomoric, you are a sexist who assaulted her with your mansplaining. Apparently calling someone out on their bullshit argument is oppression if the bullshitter is a woman.
The tragedy that makes this snowball out of control is that she lives in an echo chamber, as all SJWs do. Her friends and followers are just as bad. Here she is saying that she doesn’t have the time to explain why her irrational argument is valid, so shut up. This is of course the flip side to “google it” or “look it up” in SJW speak when asked for evidence. They have none and can’t explain it but your are the racist/sexist/-phobe for not accepting it at face value.
Her follower then chimes in with the ever unhelpful “gun = small penis” argument, doubling down on the stupid. I do have to say, I like Andrew Dobbs response. He’s and SJW too, but he had to call out the first SJW on body shaming. I love to watch them eat each other.
Here Jin is arguing against gun control for being racists while arguing for gun control, because logic is not her strong suit. It is completely backwards and she doesn’t get it. Ladd Everitt does, which is beautiful. Notice how he warns her to stay away from this line of argument, and uses America’s racist history as his justification. He knows in his heart that it was Democrats who passed so many of these racist laws, and doesn’t want that gem to get pointed.
Lastly we have some good old fashioned mockery of gun owners. It’s not that their position as any rational merit. That a person with a valid CCW should be able to carry onto an open public college campus – that if their CCW is valid on one side of the street which is downtown Austin, it should be valid on the other side of the street which is UT Austin. Nope, it’s that they are a bunch of poor gun lovers that can’t stand to leave their guns a home *tear*.
This is how political discourse in America dies. When these types of people are celebrated in the media, given awards for action, and hailed as heroes. Sure, their arguments have no merit. They use ad hominem and accusations of bigotry as their only defense. They make obscenity a virtue and reason a vice.
But… big rubber penis.
