I doubt it

Zinnia Jones is a progressive, trans, social justice activist and clearly insane person.

She posted something about gun control on her twitter, which I hat to get the long way around because she doesn’t post publicly.

Taking guns away from people would be uneventful?

Really?

This person is clearly confused about everything in her life.

I live in Alabama, where 57.2% of people own guns.  Lets say they get banned at the federal level.

I know it can’t happen, but lets say it did.  Trump gets impeached.  Hillary gets the presidency because she won the popular vote.  Gorsuch is taken of SCOTUS because Turmp didn’t count and his position gets filled by Obama, and they overturn they decide the 2A means that ONLY state sponsored militias can own guns.

Who is going to enforce the gun ban?  Alabama police?  They are going to go door to door and take guns away from family and neighbors.  How many warrants will they need to search every home for the guns that weren’t lost in boating accidents?

The Alabama National Guard?  Same thing as above.

They will have to send law enforcement from DC down here to do that job.

Let me tell you something.  There are plenty of people down here that sit around and fantasize about shooting an invading army of northern bureaucrats to get revenge for what the Army of the Potomac did to great-great-grandpappy.

You go right ahead and send a bunch of Yankees down south to take our guns away.

I don’t think “uneventful” would be the word to describe what happens.

You’d have an easier time convincing these people that a man should not refuse to date a “woman” with a penis, as you would that he should hand over his guns to DC bureaucrats without a fight.

“Hey Ridley, got any Beeman’s?” – Sam Shepard, R.I.P.

Variety does a good description of his career or you can go to IMDB for a full description of all the great movies he did . He got embedded in my brain for his role a Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff. Younger generations will remember him for his magnificent, yet low-key portrayal of General Garrison in Blackhawk Down.

We lost a great actor.

Here is one of my favorite scenes from The Right Stuff. You have to agree Phillip Kaufman created an iconic image (and so much so, it was copied merciless in the movie Independence Day) and only somebody with the sure-footed acting chops of Sam Shepard could deliver it.

And it is Monday.

I can’t seem to write about anything interesting.  I mean, there is abundant idiocy from the Opposition, but it is repetitive and in the case of Shannon  (Hillary 2.0)Watts and her tweets, just plain silly and unimaginative.  I am working on something for the podcast and may recycle it for the blog.

I think I am having a dose of the doldrums of summer.  Then again it is in the Summer when the best stories come out of the South.

I know, there are other stories, but who is gonna argue with Kathleen Turner and Body Heat?

There is something to be said for Noir films set in the hottest and brightest of summers.

Screw HBO

Game of Thrones is coming to an end.  Thank god.

HBO has decided to replace it with a new show called Confederate.

HBO has given a straight-to-series order to Confederate from Emmy-winning GoT creators, writers, and producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

The show “chronicles the events leading to the Third American Civil War. The series takes place in an alternate timeline, where the southern states have successfully seceded from the Union, giving rise to a nation in which slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution. The story follows a broad swath of characters on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Demilitarized Zone – freedom fighters, slave hunters, politicians, abolitionists, journalists, the executives of a slave-holding conglomerate and the families of people in their thrall.”

On behalf of Southerners and those with a modicum of understanding about economics, FUCK YOU.

Let’s be honest.  This show is about beating up on the South for being a bunch of racists.

Let’s forget the moral argument against slavery for a minute.  Let’s forget that  just about every Western nation abolished slavers in the mid to late 1800’s.

Let’s focus entirely on the practical issue of slavery here.

For their show to make sense, they have to throw out EVERY economic textbook and craft a shittier premise than Bernie Sanders’ understanding of single payer healthcare.

Slavery exists today only in third world shit-holes.  Why?  Because it is economically unfeasible in a technologically advanced world.

This is a modern John Deere cotton picking machine.

Ask yourself this question: how many slaves would you have to have and how hard would you have to whip them to get them to pick cotton by hand that fast.

The answer is: it’s not humanly possible.   The return on investment of slaves would be orders of magnitude less than any modern industrialized agricultural equipment.  The US is the 3rd largest food producer in the world, with less than 2% of the population actually engaged in farming.  In 1860,  53% of the population was engaged in agriculture.  That decrease is entirely driven by technology, not beating slaves into doing more labor.

Today, we are seeing robots replace migrant farm workers.  They are faster, don’t damage the produce, and they don’t shit in the lettuce fields and cause e. coli outbreaks.

But J. Kb.  What about manufacturing, heavy industry, mining?

Well, I work in manufacturing.  Robots have taken over for the same reasons.

Even when you have to have stuff hand assembled, slaves are a poor choice.  One of the biggest issues we have is low skilled workers.  We need skilled people to run the equipment, know what they are doing, and build quality products.

It used to be against the law to teach a slave to read and write.  So tell me how you get an educated workforce that knows how to read machine drawings and import CAD files into a CNC and can’t read or write?

You can’t.

The industrial revolution ended the economic viability of slavery in large scale production.

But the writers of this show wont think about that.

This is Trump’s America, and they just want to beat up on the South.  They will be as cruel to us as they are to the illegal immigrants they hire as nannies, housekeepers, and gardeners.

We have a tortilla convert!

Old NFO sent me a pic of his first try.

The sumbgun did outstanding for his first one. Let it be know that my first one was half-burned and half of it ended on the counter. Even my sweet Southern Bell of a wife did such a job on her first one that I swore my mom did it… and slept on the couch that night for not realizing it.

So Jim, welcome to the club and congratulations again!

Heathens

I caught this over at Twitchy.

That right there is the definition of faith.  That is politics as a religion.

What happens when he sins?  Does he go to the senate building to confess?  Does Nancy Pelosi have him say five Hail Hillarys and five Our Obamas and leave a donation to Planned Parenthood?  When the Obama library is built, we he have to take a pilgrimage to it?

Let me tell you the No. 1 lesson I lave learned from Jewish History:

The mercy of big government will eventually run out and we will either be expelled or killed by it.

That includes the US.  Yes.  The beatified Franklin Delano Roosevelt knew about the Holocaust and ignored it in favor of isolationism.

Murphy puts his faith in the Church of Big Government and it is horrifying.

I am not just an agnostic but a infidel to his religion.
