Month: January 2018

So a lot of people are migrating to GAB and/or MeWe.

So have I, but they are personal accounts rather than this blog. And there is a reason: WordPress’ Jetpack refuses to add Gab and MeWe to their Connections app. They do promise that as soon as they see a trend towards those places, they may consider doing something or another.

Connections is simply a little widget that automatically sends a notification to Facebook and Twitter that a new post is available in the blog. This is mighty convenient when you happen to have a couple of guys that publish six or seven posts a day.

The way Social Media and Publishing App companies are behaving, I doubt that we will see Jetpack/Wordpress giving any help to free Social Media.

Oh well.

Quick question for Manning

Chelsea Manning is a male.  He thinks that he’s a woman so he, and the rest if the Progressives, expect us to recognize him as one.

So why is he running for Senate?

Shouldn’t he just have to identify as a Senator and the rest of us are compelled to recognize him as one?

If (fill the blank) You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

From a friend of a friend of a friend-

1. If your boss tells you to update your Gamma Globulin, Yellow Fever, Malaria, Dysentery, Tetanus and other fun immunizations- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

2. If the Mobilization NCO tells you not to waste your time bringing a radio, or any other electronics, as there is no electricity and there are no signals- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

3. If the Travel Pay folks give you a travel advance and the Per Diem rate is only $8.00/day, for everything- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

4. If the “Area Cultural” briefing is only 30 minutes long, but the briefing on communicable diseases is 3 hours long- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

5. If the “Area Cultural” briefing includes facts that some leaders in the host country keep young boys as sexual slaves- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

6. If the “Area Cultural” briefing includes facts that male members of that society have multiple wives, but also engage in sexual activity with barnyard animals- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

7. If the “Medical Briefing” includes recommendations not to walk barefoot, drink the local water, or eat ANY food on the local economy- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

8. If the “Medical Briefing” includes information that the roadside ditches not only serve as flood control, but also as a common latrine- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

9. If the Daily Report for your new assignment includes an area for “Number of Personnel Med-Evaced” from theater for unknown diseases- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

10. If the monetary exchange rate is greater than 50 to 1 for local currency to US Dollars- You might be deploying to a Shit Hole.

Celebrity presidents and shitholes

CNN has been on a kick about Oprah being president since the Golden Globes.

Let’s remember one thing.

Oprah introduced Dr. Mehmet Oz to the world.

Dr. Oz is a quack. He peddles weight loss garbage to people for money and fame.

Congress got involved to chastise the man for his ‘miracle’ drugs.

The media can be as pissy as they want that President Trump called a bunch of third world countries “shitholes.”

I wonder what they will say when President Winfrey’s Surgeon General goes on TV to tell us all to shoot green tea and chia seeds up our shitholes?

I’m assuming that would be his proposed cure for radiation sickness from the nuclear fallout of the NORK attack following Secretary of State Dr. Phil McGraw’s failure to hug out a peace treaty.

Donald Trump cancels London visit amid protest fears | US news | The Guardian

Donald Trump has cancelled a visit to Britain next month to open the new US embassy in London, amid fears of mass protests…

…The London mayor, Sadiq Khan, said Trump had “got the message” that many Londoners staunchly opposed his policies and actions.

Well, it is understandable. He is not liked in Muslim Countries and Caliphates since the US Embassy thing in Jerusalem.

2+2=5, a comment on The Future of Engineering.

“You are a slow learner, Winston.”
“How can I help it? How can I help but see what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four.”
“Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder. It is not easy to become sane.”
― George Orwell1984

My belief is that the attack on Math and Engineering in particular is simply because they do not allow for “magical realism” but they are just plain, old, hardcore realism.

SJWs are seducing people with the notion that their politically base magical realism will provide them with all the answer and satisfy all their needs, but for that to happens, a certain ( a lot) of flexibility in science is required even if it does not conform with reality.

Using J. Kb.s example of the Wright Brothers Flyer and a Boeing Dreamliner, SJWs do not deny that flight is possible but promises you that when they finally are successful, you will fly without any device at all. You will not need something as gauche as a machine that runs under the principle of lift in an airfoil, but you will be able to step off any tall building, spread you arms and fly like an angel. Physics will no longer apply because Social Justice has been achieved. Of course, the pile of bodies at the bottom of the building will be something to behold.

I had mentioned here before this type of delusion. Gun Control organizations keep telling their supporters that people with guns are cowards and that they will triumph against evil because they are the good guys and stuff.

Late last night I realized what they reminded me off. Many a moon ago I read about Congo’s Simba Rebellion in the 60s and one of the things that stuck with me ever since was that Witch Doctors would do some magic ritual on the Simba Rebels and declare them “bulletproof.” Of course, ballistic reality proved the “treatment” all but useless.

But by the time people realize they can’t defy gravity, it will be too late to dislodge the assholes from the power positions they gave them.

The Future of Engineering

Campus Reform has been doing a good job of tracking the attack on mathematics as a subject by Social Justice ideologues in academia.

The core idea is that math is racist.

Meritocracy in math is a “tool of whiteness.”

White people, their experiences, and their behaviors as superior (Battey & Leyva, 2016; Martin, 2009b), and it is supported by a set of corollary principles that function as “tools of Whiteness” (Picower, 2009, p. 204). For instance, the ideological principle of the United States as meritocracy is understood by any to be a central feature of American society, dictating that a combination of hard work and talent, or as cast in recent years, “grit” (Duckworth, Peterson, Matthews, & Kelly, 2007), yields success. Equivalently, the principle of meritocracy also dictates that lack of success is a result of a lack of effort or ability (e.g., Battey & Franke, 2015; Martin, 2009b). This principle functions as tool of whiteness in how it ignores “systemic barriers and institutional structures that prevent opportunity and success” (Milner, 2012, p. 704) as well as institutional structures that facilitate opportunities and the distribution of rewards not according to merit but instead according to race and social background (Bowles & Gintis, 2002; McIntosh, 1988).

Algebra pushes white supremacism because “curricula emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi perpetuate a perception that mathematics was largely developed by Greeks and other Europeans.”

Math, according to these people, should be used to push Social Justice.

All of these attacks remind me of a video I saw with the head of the Purdue School of Engineering Education – not engineering but engineering education.

She sees it as a problem that engineers value “rigor.”

This is the difference between someone in engineering and engineering education.

Rigor – the example she uses of an engineer using more complex math equations – is important because rigor takes into account more variables.  It is is more complete solution.  Rigor is the difference between simple calculations and a finite element analysis.  It is the difference between the Wright Brothers Flyer and a Boeing Dreamliner.

This is the systematic destruction of technical knowledge.

For millennia the progress of society was towards greater knowledge and understanding.    We went from the stone age to the bronze age, to the iron age, to the plastics age, to the digital age.  We gathered more information and used it to construct better lives for ourselves.

Social Justice invades academia and the attitude becomes one of ignorance.

The greatest societal achievement, in their minds, is to be stupid know-nothings, but “fair.”

The result of this will be people in “engineering” (I use quotes because it won’t really be engineering anymore) who lack the ability to understand once common technologies.  Forget research and development, we will have graduating students that can’t handle the fundamentals.

Bridges won’t stay up, airplanes will fall out of the sky, the lights will go out, and people will die.

This needs to stop or future generations will find themselves wandering through the ruins of 20th Century civilization the way the Vandals of the Dark Ages must of looked upon the ruins of Rome.
