Small Bleeders’ Care.

Sometimes we prep so hard for the big stuff, we overlook the “simpler” and not-quite bleeding issues we can face. How about a small bleed that simply will not stop? I got caught by surprise and it was not fun feeling this dumb.

My mother is 86 years old and living with us as I may have mentioned before. she is not only diabetic but she is on blood thinners due to a prior TIA. Now, it was a matter of personal pride that our family would heal/clot “as fast as a dog” as the saying goes in Spanish.  But age, diabetes and medication came to play when mom accidentally scratched out a small wart or tag in her leg and it would not stop bleeding. It was not profusely but a constant trickle that even after normal treatment, it would come back. I went from frustrated to slightly worried and racking my brain what to do short of taking a trip to the doctor

After a long while (too long for my taste) from the back of my head came the memory of having some sort of small vial of clotting agent. rummaging around I found it and just applied the dust to the small wound. Voila! instant clotting. I put one of those huge 3 inch wide band aids and problem solved.

This is the clotting agent I used: QR Woundseal.

Sharp eyes will surely noticed the expiration date. I saw that myself after application. But since it worked and mom is puttering around normally and interrupting me every 5 minutes, I reckon it worked and I won’t give it too much of a thought.

Anyway, I went ahead and ordered several two gram bags of Celox to keep in the different First Aid kits (Not the Oh Shit! kits) and add some of the big ass band aids because sometime you don’t need the whole gauze and tape production thing to attend to a small wound and small band aids just suck.

Gun grabbers are dumb

The NRA sent out this Tweet about a woman who defended herself against an attacker that grabbed her child.

That lead to this exchange initiated by a gun grabber who is #StillWithHer.

Many things could have gone wrong with the shoot so it’s better for the woman to defend herself with a frying pan.

This is what happens when TV and movies are filled with female action heroes that beat up armed men without breaking a heal or a sweat.  Some people get the idea that the average woman can take on the average man in a fight and be victorious.

God created all men and Sam Colt, not Lodge Cast Iron, that made them equal.  Double that for women.

Also, again, training.  I’m not against training.  I am against the idea that training is magic.  The Left seems to believe that government approved instructors have some sort of fairy dust that makes people better.

I’d love to train with Clint Smith.  If I could afford it, that would be my dream mancation.  Still, I don’t need to go to his course to practice the fundamentals myself.

When challenged on the stupidity of her frying pan assertion, Ms. Prince went with the Leftist standby of insult and blame Russian Bots.

That’s a winning argument if I ever heard one.

She just doesn’t stop.  You shouldn’t be allowed to have guns because this defensive shooting went well, but might not have because something could have gone wrong in her imagination.

Wow, a Leftist shaming someone for not joining the military, that’s new.  Usually it’s the other way around (insulting people who joint the military).  So I guess the only training Ms. Prince likes is military training and if you don’t have it you shouldn’t have guns.

Also, what “gun safety test” applies to this situation?

Lastly, she boils this whole thing down to luck, so you shouldn’t have a gun.

There is no rationality with these people.

A bad shoot means you shouldn’t have a gun.  A good shoot means you shouldn’t have a gun because something bad might have happened.  A no shoot because the CCW was obeying the gun free zone and that means you shouldn’t’ have guns because CCWs are worthless anyway.

They can make any situation fit their opinion because it’s not about facts, it’s about their feelings.

Third Circuit Court decides opinion on 2A nullifies the 5A

This from the New Jersey Attorney General:

From the American Bar Association Journal:

The law “reasonably fits the state’s interest in public safety and does not unconstitutionally burden the Second Amendment’s right to self-defense in the home,” the appeals court said.

The appeals court also said the law’s exemption for retired law enforcement officers does not violate the equal protection clause. Nor is there a violation of the takings clause, the court said, because the law allows gun owners to retain modified magazines or to register firearms that have magazines that cannot be modified.

I’m not a liberal judge so I’m not sure how this isn’t a Fifth Amendment violation.

The judge argues that that owners can “retain modified magazines or to register firearms that have magazines that cannot be modified” but she clearly doesn’t understand the law or how guns work.  The registration of magazines only applies to fixed magazines that hold more than 10 rounds other than rimfire only tube magazines (like the Marlin Model 60).  Modification must be permanent, such as by welding or with epoxy.

If you have a 15 round pistol max, you must either get rid of it, destroy it, or modify it to be both unreliable and without value.

That seems like a clear violation of the Fifth Amendment’s “nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”

I’m also unsure how saying “some citizens have extra rights because they used to be government employees” isn’t also a Constitutional violation.

The decision affirms a federal judge’s refusal to grant an injunction banning enforcement of the law. Five other federal appeals courts have upheld similar laws, according to the New Jersey Law Journal.

New Jersey passed its law in June, making it the ninth state to ban large-capacity magazines. The other states are California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont. Washington, D.C., also has a ban.

In her majority opinion, Circuit Judge Patty Shwartz cited “substantial evidence” that large-capacity magazines have been used in numerous mass shootings. Pausing to reload gives the victims a chance to flee and bystanders the chance to intervene, Shwartz said. A trained shooter can change a magazine in two to four seconds, but an inexperienced shooter may need eight to 10 seconds to reload.

This is both wrong and goes back to the Left’s magical idea about training.  Trained by who?  Using what course?  Any competitive shooter worth his salt is going to practice in his garage doing reloads and dry fire.  Is that training?  This is ridiculously stupid.

This all seems like a massive violation of the Bill of Rights, but when it comes to guns, Liberal Activist judges hate guns so much they are willing to gut any and every Amendment that gets in the way of enacting more gun bans.

I’d say this is one for SCOTUS, except SCOUTS seems to have chickened out on taking on gun rights cases.

At this point I’m done being nice.

They say death comes in threes.  President George H.W. Bush just passed.  I am ready for Ruth Bader Ginsburg to be part of that trifecta.

If she is, I will donate to any fund to buy Donald Trump whatever gold plated hooker he wants in order to get him to nominate Marion Hammer to the Supreme Court.

There is no point to having pro gun rights Conservatives on the Court if they are too chicken shit to hear gun rights cases.

This is not a bad idea…

Stole this from @Tactical_review:

I am not a fan of the soft rifle case. That comes from the years working Audio in which everything that needed to be moved was done inside an Anvil Case which makes Pelican stuff look like made of Papier Mache. I know a rifle is not as delicate as a piece of electronic gear, but the fear of damage remains.

We are not taking about taking your rifle on a plane trip outside your control but your average trip to the range and maybe a little bit of road trip. A regular guitar or bass case should do the trick rather nicely and cheaper.

A nice Pelican rifle case will run pass the $250 mark while you can get a not too shabby traditionally shaped guitar hard case for one-fourth the retail price of Pelican. If the guitar shape is not your cup of water, then the Fender-style cases may be to your liking, specially the very old style repros.

Yes, you will need to fix the inside and use a foam cut-out (I have no idea about the cost) but you will look cool and your rifle will arrive with style at your shooting destination.

AP – Ebola spreads to major Congo city as vaccines a concern

This is not good news.

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — The second-largest Ebola outbreak in history has spread to a major city in eastern Congo, as health experts worry whether the stock of an experimental vaccine will stand up to the demands of an epidemic with no end in sight.
Butembo, with more than 1 million residents, is now reporting cases of the deadly hemorrhagic fever. That complicates Ebola containment work already challenged by rebel attacks elsewhere that have made tracking the virus almost impossible in some isolated villages…

The outbreak declared on Aug. 1 is now second only to the devastating West Africa outbreak that killed more than 11,300 people a few years ago. There are currently 471 Ebola cases, of which 423 are confirmed, including 225 confirmed deaths, Congo’s health ministry said late Thursday.
Without the teams that have vaccinated more than 41,000 people so far, this outbreak could have already seen more than 10,000 Ebola cases, the health ministry said .

All the outbreaks before were contained in small villages and in remote areas. Even so, the last one killed over eleven thousand people during a very unusually long outbreak. And the number of death tells us it has a 50% mortality on those affected which is, believe it or not, better numbers that history records. Still, the possibility that Ebola hitting a major city and wiping out half the inhabitants is not a nice consideration. Now comes the question: How is it being spread? Let us pray it has not done the jump to airborne.

About the only good bit of information is that a vaccine has been developed by Evil Pharma but unfortunately they say they do not have enough to make a dent. IRRC to achieve herd immunity, you need at least half the population vaccinated.

This is by far the largest deployment of the promising but still experimental Ebola vaccine, which is owned by Merck. The company keeps a stockpile of 300,000 doses, and preparing them takes months.

“We are extremely concerned about the size of the vaccine stockpile,” WHO’s emergencies director, Dr. Peter Salama, told the STAT media outlet in an interview this week, saying 300,000 doses is not sufficient as urban Ebola outbreaks become more common.

And we have not heard yet from the Anti-Vaxxers saying that the consequences of the vaccine are worse than dying of Ebola. Apparently painfully shitting your internal organs in a mixture of blood and mucus before dying is preferable option.

Let’s pray this strand reaches its natural cycle ASAP.

No, nothing new or important happened in Paris.

I have seen some celebratory comments and memes in social media regarding the protest of the Yellow Vests in France. some regard them as the triumph of a new social change against the left-wing politics of Macron and Socialists in general.  I got news for everybody: No great changes will happen and this is nothing new in France. In fact, if history teaches us something is that probably the French will be worse later next year.

It seems the French go though one of these social shakedown every 20-30 years or so. Think about it, the French Revolution ended with a country in chaos, and things so screwed up that they got rid of a king and ended up with Emperor Bonparte. Jumping to the 20th Century and the day of the Liberation of Paris, the Communists trued to raise shit fighting with other Resistance units for control of the city  and even trying to pop DeGaulle as we walked in. The whole did not go farther because the whole US Army taking over the city.

The most romanticized of the was the May 1968 protests which affected the whole country and changed the Country in the direction of European Socialism which has progressively making a France a bigger mockery than ever and brought is the yellow Vest Revolt. What will it bring? No idea yet, but I am betting on nothing good. And since it is environment, I wouldn’t be surprised if they established the infamous mile tax or some sort of other restriction that will affect private car owners to subsidize cheap public transportation. Let’s not only do it for the environment, but for the poor.

It is the same old shit in a different decade, that is all.
