Tuesday Tunes

Guest posting for AWA today, I wanted to share Gretchen Wilson’s “Redneck Woman”.

AWA asked me, why this song? Well, part of the answer is that the song makes me think of a strong woman. I have never been a wilting flower. I’ve never been interested in Victoria’s Secret. As the song says, “I can get that same damn thing in Walmart on half price.” I’m not a huge country fan, but this song resonates with me.

I need to see strong woman in media. I love seeing Nikki Haley out there, kicking it up in politics. Gretchen Wilson does it in country music. In television, there’s Gina Torres (Zoe Washburn in Firefly), Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser in Outlander), and Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), among others. This song evokes that strength, while still holding onto the facets of womanhood that stand out to me.

Women can do most things men can (we’re not equals on a physical level without a LOT of work, but very few jobs require that brute strength and there are tools that make us equal). But that’s not all we do. We work all day, then we come home and make dinner, clean house, care for the kids, do laundry, help with homework, and in too many cases, we also run after our spouse as if he’s another kid. So when I see a woman out mudding in a Jeep, it makes me happy. And when I see a strong man standing beside her, helping and supporting, that makes me damn proud.

And another Memorial Day Weekend shooting that did not make the News cycle.

PHILADELPHIA – A weekend meant to honor our fallen heroes, and usher in the start of summer, has been riddled with shootings in a city continually plagued by gun violence.

Thirty-two people became the victims of 22 shootings that erupted on the streets of Philadelphia during Memorial Day weekend. Seven of those victims have succumbed to their injuries.

There seems to be a commonality in thi locations, but I just can’t quite put my finger on it other than DeSantis not being the Governor. [end/sarcasm]

And the author of the tweet is (Drum roll) another Liberal Democrat:

Maybe they were campaign donors, so she really felt bad about losing that sweet criminal cash and votes.

And the one that is not going to stay in the news cycle for long…

I was watching the teevees and CNN and Fox were repeating the shooting in Hollywwod Beach, Fl ad nauseam. I found out about the Chicago shootings in some news aggregator past the middle of the page.

And we are not surprised one bit, are we?

This aint gonna be in the news cycle for long

The Left is right now dunking on DeSantis because there was a mass casualty event in Hollywood, Florida.

It’s going to be out of the news cycle by day’s end.

Three children among at least nine people shot as gunfire between two groups erupts on packed Florida boardwalk sending crowds frantically fleeing for their lives on Memorial Day weekend

At least nine people, including three minors, were injured in a Memorial Day shooting on a packed Florida boardwalk.

Authorities say a dispute between two groups ended in gunfire at around 6.45pm Monday in the area of the 1200 block of North Boardwalk in Hollywood Beach, north of Miami. One suspect has been detained, while another is still at large.

Two groups had a shoot out in Hollywood Beach?

I know where this is going.

In the meantime, investigators are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect, who is described as a black male with dreadlocks who was last seen wearing a black short sleeve shirt and camouflage shorts.

Yup.

Hollywood Beach is one of the skeezier sections of that stretch of coastline.

This was a gang shooting, and you know the media treats this sort of violence.

Shootout in a bus where a passenger pulled a gun and the driver pulled a gun of his own.

And here is the irony: The bus is a Gun Free Zone.

The driver was fired, but alive.

That driver is now off the job.
“We don’t want anyone possessing weapons on our vehicles,” said Interim Charlotte Area Transit System CEO Brent Cagle.

The transit system said Fullard didn’t properly deescalate the situation and was not allowed to bring a gun to work.

I am going with he did de-escalated the situation. A gun was out menacing him, what was he supposed to do? Sing Kumbaya?

The suspect is wounded and under arrest. Not betting he will remain behind bars for long.
