Netflix fail

I loved Lost in Space as a kid.  I forget what channel it was on when I was growing up, but I had Lassie, Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and I love them all.

So I was giddy when Netflix announced a reboot.

What a fucking Turd it turned out to be.

The original 1965 series was hopeful.  We were in the space race and so that was mirrored in the show, with a space race to be the first to colonize another planet.

The 2018 series had to be dark and gritty so it’s not space race, the Earth is/was destroyed and we have no choice but to colonize another planet.  This isn’t ambitious hope, this is desperation.

They also did a major rewrite of the characters, in a really awful way.

John Robinson is no longer a professor of astrophysics.  He’s a Marine of undeclared rank.  In typical Hollywood fashion, he’s casually stupid and barely scientifically literate.  He doesn’t know his kids, especially Will, and is gruff with them.

Maureen Robinson is no longer a biochemist.  She is now an aerospace engineer.  She is a miserably, ball busing woman who dislikes her husband.  She filed for divorce before the Jupiter mission, but canceled it so not to leave her children’s father on earth to die.

The girls Penny and Judy are teenage girls.  They fight a lot.

Will is not a child prodigy.  In fact, he failed the test to qualify for the Jupiter mission and his mom had to do some sort of string pulling to get him on the mission.

That alone really makes the show something awful, that whatever world they lived in, the powers that be would break up a family of colonists.  “Sure, we will save you and two of your children from extinction, but you have to leave your son behind because he didn’t pass a test.”

Don West isn’t a major.  He’s a criminal who crashed on a different ship.

The Robot is an alien the find on the planet they crash on.  It also caused the crash.

Dr. Smith is actually Parker Posey having stolen a real doctor’s identity.

I don’t know which writer(s) at Netflix Studios have a minor in Women’s Studies, they need to be fired.

Every male character in the show is awful.  Flat fucking awful.

Sure, the 1965 show was Leave It To Beaver in space.  In the original show both parents were scientists.  Why did dad have to be turned into an idiot, estranged from his kids?  Couldn’t Maureen’s role as a biochemist in the original show been  more enhanced?

Why does Will have to be the only kid not cut out for the mission?

Why should I care about a dysfunctional family lost in space?  What is entertaining about a super smart ball busting wife resent saving her borderline estranged idiot husband from an apocalypse?

And this show is recommended in Netflix Kids.  Yeah, it is.

Bright was fantastic.  Stranger Things is worthy of all the praise heaped upon it.

Lost in Space is a big, fat turd that ruined a beloved show from my childhood.

It actually makes me appreciate how much closer the awful, awful 1998 move was to the original show than this.

Please Netflix, don’t renew this crap fest for a second season.

Values, Equality, and Butt Sex

Mike Pompeo is Trump’s nominee for Secretory of State.

Yesterday, he was questioned during his confirmation hearing by Senator Cory Booker.

This happened:

Yes, you saw that correctly.  A sitting United States Senator tried to disqualify a former Congressman and CIA director as the Secretary of State because the man has a dislike of ass fuckery.

What this says about the state of America is incredible.

The First thing to note is just how fast Booker is to throw out Article Six of the Constitution.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

Technically Booker can’t say “we don’t want you because you are a Christian.”  So what he is doing is saying “we don’t want you for holding a normal, mainstream Christian belief.”  Which is essentially the same thing.

The whole point of prohibiting religious tests for office was to protect minority rights.  Under Booker and the Democrats, the minority seems to think it has the right to ban the majority religion from office, flipping the point of the article on its head.

But the big picture takeaway of this exchange is that Cory Booker, representing Left Wing Democrat America seems to believe that any form of personal standards or values is equal to bigotry.

If you asked me “do you think that gay sex is a perversion?”  I will say “Yes, butt sex is gross.  Ewww…”

That is a personal standard.  Should that disqualify me from a job or an elected office?

There are a lot of personal and sexual behaviors that are gross, but the opinion of Senator Booker and the people he represents, is that thinking that is wrong.

Second, what this demonstrates beyond any doubt is that Senator Booker and the Left he is part of cannot compartmentalize.  There is no separation of the  personal, professional, and political.

Essentially, if I think that butt sex is gross, I cannot help but dislike (or even hate) people who have butt sex, and then I will undoubtedly use whatever power I have to oppresses that person.

This is in stark contrast to the Christian value of “hate the sin, love the sinner.”  The point that Pompeo was trying to make and Conservatives seem to understand is that it is possible to disagree with one aspect of a person but still respect them as a person and treat them fairly as an employee.

I value the good work that you do, I just don’t want to hear about your butt sexcapades.

We have seen this all over America recently, especially on college campuses, the idea that disagreement is oppression.

The natural – if not slippery slope – outcome of this is a valueless society.  Anything goes all the time because anytime one person exerts a personal value, they commit the ultimate offence of being a bigot.

Oh wait, we’ve already seen that in the UK where gangs of Muslim men have engaged in massive child sex grooming rings which were totally ignored by the police in fear of being Islamophobic.

This is just another tick mark in the “pro” column for justifying a national divorce.  A sitting US Senator wants to put having a Secretary of State who is strong on American defense and the economy below a Secretary of State who is completely accepting of ass fuckery.

As long as no one feels judged for their sexual predilections by a member of the Cabinet, who care how many of our embassies burn down.

That one is going to cost them

Remember back in February when Delta dropped the NRA discount and the Georgia GOP decided to repay Delta for getting political by sticking them with $40 Million in taxes?

Some Republican Congressmen are going for record in “hold my beer” one-upmanship.

Last month, I reported where the CEO of Citigroup decided that the bank was going to pursue its own firearms policy, using its financial weight to push management’s political opinions on people.

According to The Daily Caller:

Sixteen Republican congressmen are asking the General Services Administration (GSA) to reevaluate a $700 billion contract with Citibank as a result of the the financial institution’s “anti-Second Amendment policies.”

That is $700 Billion.

I’m going to write every word out just so the magnitude of it sinks in: seven hundred billion dollars.

This is what the Congressmen had to say.

“This flagrant attempt to undermine our fundamental rights by caving to radicals should not be endorsed by our federal government,”the congressmen added. “The federal government should instead do business with companies that respect all of our constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment. GSA should take all necessary steps to review and terminate its contract with Citibank unless they rescind their guidelines, and rebid the SmartPay 3 contract.”

“This flagrant disregard for American citizens and their God-given Second Amendment rights cannot be tolerated,” Rokita said in a statement to TheDCNF. The congressman is challenging incumbent Democratic Indiana Sen. Joe Donnelly in November.

“Those who seek to undermine those God-given rights do not deserve taxpayer dollars and should be denied federal contracts. Congress has sworn to uphold the Constitution, and it is paramount that we stand united for the American people and their right to bear arms,” said Rokita.

That’s going to leave a mark on their bottom line.  The resulting devaluation of Citigroup should cause heads to roll in the board room.

Like I said just a few days ago, when banks that benefit from the goverment and taxpayers think they can start playing partisan politics, politicians from the other side of the aisle will start to push back.

I figured new regulations were coming.

A $700 Billion “fuck your balance sheet” is even better.

I salute these Congressmen.  I enthusiastically support giving these banks a financial version of the ol’ Bobby Trippe.

My BBQ gun

I came home for lunch to find the mail man had delivered some goodies early, specifically my slide back from Novak Sights.

It is done, my BBQ gun.

The slide is from a Remington Limited Edition 200th Anniversary 1911 R1.

The frame is a Remington R1 high polish stainless.

The sights are Novak plain black rear and tritium dot front.

Wilson Combat Bulletproof semi-extended slide stop and thumb safety.

Wilson Combat drop in beaver tail.

Ed Brown checkered mag well.

The grips are checkered G-10 into which I epoxied Remington “R” medallions.

Except for the sights, every inch of fitment, tuning, and love was done by me.

The trigger breaks clean, the frame rails have been stoned and polished, the feed ramp honed and polished, all to a mirror shine.

Now all I need is a BBQ to go to so that I can carry it.

More on knives and the UK

Operation Sceptre is the name of a British police initiate to tackle knife crime.  This is how it is described from the official website of the Metropolitan Police.

We launched Operation Sceptre in July 2015 with the aim of reducing knife crime and the number families affected by knife crime across the whole of London. The launch was designed to coincide with new legislation that means that those convicted of carrying a knife for the second time will face a mandatory custodial sentence. Operation Sceptre seeks to target not only those who carry and use knives, but also the supply, access and importation of weapons.

There is a Twitter hashtag for this, #OpSceptre.  Various police units post their finds and seizures on Twitter as a warning to people.  The problem is that it makes the UK look like a laughing stock.

Was that really a stashed weapon or did somebody lose that?

The kitchen knife may be dubious but I’m pretty sure the pruning shears were dropped by whoever has the job of maintaining that planter.

For fuck’s sake, a Leatherman?  Really?

This is where this whole thing starts to die.

I agree with the Left, the purpose of guns is to kill.  However, I don’t have an inherent problem with that.  I have a problem with who is killing and why.  I believe that killing in self defense is legitimate and so I believe that people should be allowed to have the tools for effective self defense.  Attack me and I will try and kill you right back.

In this way, knives are not like guns.  There are many uses for a knife beyond stabbing people.  As someone who carries a Swiss Army Knife… everywhere… I wouldn’t want to use it as a weapon.  There are just so many better options for improvised weapons than my Deluxe Tinker.

So when the Mayor of London said “there is never a reason to carry a knife,” any rational person would say “bullshit.”

This is the same attitude had by NY prosecutor Cy Vance and Governor Andrew Cuomo in for punishing working class people in New York for carrying knives used for work, to the point where they go after retailers like Home Depot.

Or in the case of the UK, housewares retailers.

It is the assumption that the ONLY reason to have a knife is to use it as a weapon, carrying a knife ALWAYS has nefarious intent, and only bad people carry knifes of any kind.

I get that carrying an 8 inch novelty “Rambo” knife is probably criminal, but when that is treated the same as multi-tool, society has reached the level of “dystopian police state.”

The more the UK police focus on “carrying knives” and not why people are stabbing each other, the more laughably ridiculous this becomes.

Forget the wayward youths stabbing each other over drugs or hooliganism, we need to be sure to disarm every mechanic and handyman in Kingdom.

Part of this war on knives in the UK is charities and other groups who have placed “knife bins” in locations to get people to give up their knives.

Words 4 Weapons is one of these charities.

Only Cowards Carry is another.  This second one intrigues me.

Pictures of their bins have been posted here before.

I am curious, does this work?

I’m not a psychologist but it seems like this is supposed to shame people who carry knives as weapons into giving up their knives.  That seems to be as bad as the “real men use fists” crap we’ve seen from the anti gun crowd.

Maybe centuries of being Subjects not Citizens makes Britons act differently, but if someone said to me “you are a coward because you have a SAK on you, give it up” it’s only going to piss me off, not make be throw my knife away.

Really, to me this is nothing but a convenient evidence disposal box.

If freedom is to prevail in the US or even make an attempt at comeback in the UK, the first thing that needs to reassert itself is the presumption of innocence.

Simply carrying a knife, or a gun, or possession of a scary black rifle and extra big metal box with a spring is not evidence of malicious intent.

Anybody that can’t differentiate between a guy with a tool and a guy with criminal intent doesn’t belong anywhere near authority.

March against personal responsibility in North Miami

Apparently there was another student walkout yesterday in Miami.

Miami Northwestern students hold walkout after killings of student, former student

MIAMI – Students from Miami Northwestern Senior High School walked out of classes Tuesday morning to call for change after a fellow student and a former student were killed in a shooting over the weekend.

Sky 10 was above the area as the students walked out of class about 11:30 a.m.

Some held signs with messages like, “Enough is enough.”

Some politicians, like U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Florida, said they are listening to the students’ calls for action.

“We’re moving right along with Parkland, listening to the children and how they’re going to solve this inner-city gang, shooting, gun problem that we have,” she said.

Police identified the victims killed Sunday as Kimson Green, 17, a 10th-grader at the school, and Rickey Dixon, 18, a former student.

Goebbels Jr. Tweeted about this too.

These students were killed, not on school grounds, but in a shooting in Liberty City.

Liberty City is a no-go zone in Miami for anybody who doesn’t actually live in Liberty City.

For years, Liberty City has been the heart of a drug fueled gang war, exacerbated by a criminal “no snitching” culture.

Liberty City is Miami’s version of the South Side of Chicago or pretty much all of Baltimore.

But as VOX and the Parkland kids are quick to remind us, none of that matters, and we law abiding citizens have to lose our rights.

The witnesses won’t corporate with the police in trying to find the killers but I have to willingly hand over my guns because I didn’t nothing wrong.

This is the Bizarro idea this kids are marching for.  Not to be a callous asshole, but I am just out of fucks to give about them in that case.

This is why we can’t have nice things – IL schools

Chicago Public Schools.

Fewer than 25% of Chicago public school students can read at grade level.

Fewer than 20% of Chicago public school students has math proficiency.

More than 25% of Chicago public school students drops out before graduation.

But good news, the State of Illinois has a solution for this.

Illinois Senate plan would include LGBT history in schools

Oh goody.  Chicago students will still be unable to read, write, or do the basic math they need to function in society; but at least they will know which significant historical figures took it in the butt.

I don’t want to sound like a prude or a bigot here, but is to too much to ask the kids to be able to have the ability to read and comprehend written instructions and to be able to do simple arithmetic – you know, the kind of skills useful for an entry level job – BEFORE we get to the ass fuckery?

I don’t give a shit who you sleep with, but I do care that it takes a calculator for you to give me back change for a $20.
