Home Invasion through the prism of Freedom.

YUMA, Ariz. – A woman was killed and three people were injured in what deputies said was a home invasion in the 3800 block of East County 18 1/2 Street early Thursday morning.

Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies responded to reports of a home invasion at the 3800 block of East County 18th 1/2 Street at about 1:38 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the home occupants were woken up by noises outside their home and unknown individuals were trying to enter the home. The individuals entered the home and during the home invasion, one of the home’s occupants fired several rounds, hitting all four of the individuals.

Woman dead and three injured in home invasion

Home Invasions are scary, but even more so if you get to live where you cannot defend yourself. I bring this case with a happy ending because I recently heard of two cases in two countries and I want to share them with you.

My mom has a set of regular calls she makes to family in two hemispheres (Thank God for VoIP) and one of them is a cousin that lives in Argentina. she called her I think on the 26th for the usual Holiday cheers and as good old ladies, they ended up talking about everything. One of the things was a Home Invasion that happened next door to mom’s cousin and there were people injured. The poor woman apparently heard the commotion as it happened and was still terrified like only a defenseless octogenarian could be.

On January second, mom called the daughter of a dear friend and neighbor from Venezuela who has been living with her family in Spain for years now. They were the recipient of a home invasion right before Christmas by some whacked out junkie probably looking for some loot to pawn. Nobody got hurt as the asshole ran away when confronted, but there was property damage and the kids were scared shitless and traumatized.

It is with this story that I got a chuckle from mom. The sweet little lady made the following comment to the young woman in Spain:

“You know? Here they break in and we get to shoot the hijos de puta.

My mom, the woman who taught me for many years that violence does not solve anything (Won’t blame her, that was the culture we all grew up in) went all “Get Off My Lawn” in her old age. It has been quite a change in lifestyle for her. Before she lived behind 10 foot walls and spikes topped with razor wire, steel doors and barred windows. Now her only separation at night from the outside is the pane of glass of her window.

And she sleeps rather well for her age.

People like this are allegedly on our side.

I wish I could go all paranoid and say he is a fifth columnist infiltrated to sabotage the Gun Rights movement, but unfortunately I have seen too many idiots like him.

Some days, it gets difficult to even try to do anything for gun rights.

San Francisco: This is what violence looks like.

The following video should be educational for those who have not seen true violence. There is no outright display of uncontrolled rage by the attacker, just a determined and concentrated effort to inflict damage. Initially it looked like just another tussle and tumbling we are tired to see in YouTube videos, but it then turns reality-of-life ugly. Good bits begin at 1:30

The manhunt for a suspect wanted in a brazen beating near Union Square ended Sunday with his arrest just blocks away from where the crime occurred, according to San Francisco police.

Police identified 25-year-old Oakland resident Melton Earl Kelly as the suspect captured on video punching and stomping on a victim Friday near a crowded intersection at Cyril Magnin and Eddy streets. Police arrested Kelly at 7:19 a.m. Sunday on the 300 block of Ellis Street.

Later Sunday, Kelly was to be booked into the San Francisco County Jail on 11 felony charges, including attempted murder, robbery and mayhem, police said in a statement.

Suspect arrested in brutal San Francisco attack caught on video

Even the mugshot is informative: There is no regret, no repentance, no “Oh crap, I am in trouble.” He looks simply bored, like another day of the week outside rather than being booked for attempted murder. I would not be surprised if the city has previous booking photos of Mr. Kelly.

And we can debate the attitude of the onlookers, but it would be a waste of time: It is San Francisco, live and let live and get the shit beaten out of you, right?

Florida: HB 6005 – Possession of Firearms on School Property

Revises provisions relating to possession of firearms in student campus parking. (TEXT)

This is the same BS sleigh of hand as with SB7026 Armed Personnel part: You can have a gun in your vehicle in school property, unless the  School District says no and then you are flocked.  Right off the bat, you know Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade are going to say nopers.

Florida: HB 135 – Transfers of Firearms (Universal Background Checks)

Transfers of Firearms: Requires transfers of firearms when neither party is licensed dealer to be conducted through licensed dealer & requires processing by licensed dealer.  (Text)

Same old annoying bill. besides busting balls, it is a left-handed gun registration scheme.

It has never been about checking backgrounds, if it were the bill would simply allow the members to check with a Licensed Dealer and run a background check without having to log anything in the books.  No gun owner wants to sell a gun to a possible violent criminal and we would welcome having access (for a fee) to a quick and easy background check.

PS: Did you know you can get updates via email on any bill you want?  Look in the House and Senate sites for “tracking” in the main menu and register. After that is just clicking on the tracking button for the individual bills,

Florida: SB 108 – Regulation of Concealed Weapons Licenses.

SB 108  – Regulation of Concealed Weapons Licenses. Click here for the text of the bill.

The bill aims to transfer the Concealed Weapons licensing program to the  Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to the Department of Law
Enforcement.  Other that what seems to be a straight forward change of oversight. I remember reading that this change comes after we elected a pothead for Commissioner of Agriculture and since the writing in the wall seems to be that Florida will sooner rather than later become Colorado, it would be the smart thing to switch the CWP to Law Enforcement rather than a  department that will probably be run by Liberals from now on.

The one part I was worried about was the money.  As you all know, the monies collected by the issuance of permits and renewals cannot be used for anything else but CWP. Several years ago there was an attempt to transfer those funds to the general coffers, but it was fought by the NRA and won. Shortly after the upgrade of all the computers and upgrade to fingerprint scanners began and we now have waiting times that are way short than the three months’ limit. This bill keeps the budgetary independence of the program so in that sense we can breathe easier. Still, bills do not remain untouched, so I will keep an eye on it.

Vacation is over, folks!
