Bari Weiss resigned from The New York Times. She leans Left, but I respected her honesty. As a last act, she decided to toss a firebomb of a resignation behind her accusing the NTY of everything from being a hostile work environment, to anti-Semitism, to being cowards in the face of a tiny woke mob.
If we hop over to Hey Jackass, the year to date there is 360 killed and 1618 wounded.
This is what I’ve noticed, the ratio of those wounded to those killed:
NYC 7/13 – 6:1
NYC 7/3 – 10:1
NYC 7/4 – 4.5:1
Chicago (total) – 4.5:1
We know that just about all of these shootings are being committed with handguns.
We do not know the calibers or types of ammo being used, but a while back The Trace published a list of the most popular guns used by Chicago criminals from confiscation. Lots of 9mm, a surprising amount of 40 S&W, some 38 Special. Fewer “midnight special” cheap guns than S&W and Glock pistols. A lot of Rugers. This is more evidence that a lot of the guns used by criminals in Chicago are stolen from law-abiding buyers than cheap Pawn Shop pistols. The Rugers were most likely stolen from the Chicago rail yards after gang members used connections to locate pallets of guns being shipped from the factory to a distribution center.
The point is, that you yourself are probably armed with the same gun and same ammo as these criminals.
They are scoring a wound to kill ratio of between 4.5:1 and 10:1.
Someone shot with a handgun seems to be more likely to survive than die.
The lesson for us is that we can reasonably expect that the first shot isn’t going to stop the threat.
You can say “but J.Kb., I apply marksmanship, those gang members are holding their guns sideways as they pray and spray.”
You may be right, but I’ve shot enough USPSA to know that when the buzzer goes beep on a qualifying stage, I can come down with a sudden case of Stormtrooperitis. Stress does bad things to the human body. You may be an A-class shooter but when you are fighting for your life in a defensive situation, there is no guarantee that adrenalin won’t take over.
That is why we train.
We are watching the world’s largest randomized field trial in handgun stopping power, it’s important for us to learn the lessons from that and apply them in our own lives.

After another tragic weekend of gun violence, including the death of a 1-year-old, two members of the Black community called on the NYPD to bring back the recently disbanded Anti-Crime Unit to help get guns off the street.
It was a dramatic moment — Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams holding up a pair of baby shoes Monday after a 1-year-old became the latest victim of gun violence, caught in the crossfire at a family barbecue just hours before.
“Babies are not supposed to be wearing these in a coffin,” Adams said.
Adams, a former cop, became the second member of the African-American community to call on the NYPD to stop the violence by re-instituting the Anti-Crime Unit — undercover cops whose job was to get guns off the street. The unit was disbanded during the anti-cop protest that shook the city.
“I think that a total elimination is something we need to reevaluate,” said Adams. “Right now, bad guys are saying if you don’t see a blue and white you can do whatever you want.”
Activists screaming “defund the cops” have caused the biggest loss in morale in police history. The NYPD is retiring by the hundreds. The anti-crime unit was suspended.
And the black neighborhoods of NYC run red with blood.
The result has been disastrous.
Some black people seem to actually care about curbing in the violence but you know they are going to be accused of being race traitors by BLM.
BLM may say “black lives matter” but by body count you can tell that they don’t really mean it.

According to the what I read, it happened in Brooklyn, Illinois July 14. Allegedly the mom of the kicked toddler is also pregnant. The mom of kicker said he did not mean to hit the little one. Bullshit.
As I said, I don’t support lynching but I consider several doses of sledgehammer to the knee and foot of the male jumper to be appropriate form of justice.
