This is just now being celebrated over the Gun Control Tweeter accounts. If you look closely, you can almost see the champagne popping.
How few do remember that Dick’s already had pulled semi auto rifles from their stock after Sandy Hook:
(TheBlaze/AP) — One of the country’s largest sporting goods chains says it’s suspending sales of “sporting rifles” nationwide because of the recent school shooting in Connecticut.
Dick’s Sporting Goods also says it’s also removing all guns from display at its store closest to Newtown, where the massacre took place.“We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community.
Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide.
We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy.”
Dick’s Sporting Goods Suspends Sale of Certain Rifles After Sandy Hook Tragedy
I am guessing Dick’s suffered an important loss of revenue back then and quietly returned the rifles to the stores. But since this time the rifle used in the Parkland shooting was bought from them, they felt they needed to Virtue Signal hard and heavy again.
For a company that bought the remnants of Sports Authority (who went K-Mart and stopped selling ammunition with fanfare and all), the lesson of not crossing Gun Owners seem not to have been assimilated.
My guess they will be back again. Quietly again.
I believe I blogged about gun owners holding grudges…
Dick’s started carrying AR’s again after screwing over Troy and being liberally virtuous?
I wouldn’t know. I stopped shopping there, and nobody I knew shopped there either or they’d have mentioned the return of modern sporting guns.
Note to Dick’s about these grudges. I DESPISE Troy… but you screwed over a gun maker so…
Couldn’t care less. Been to one of their crappy stores once, before they became SJW’s, and walked out without buying a thing. Everything’s overpriced and their gun counter is manned by rude idiots. Never went back or ever will.
I had a shit experience with them too

who inna hell ever goes there anyway?
Just thinking the same thing while seeing this on MSM morning shows.
In my eyes, it not that Dick’s virtue signaling after each event and then succumbing to market pressures to reinstate sales, it is our (2A supporters) lack of commitment to truly avoid marketeers who don’t care about us. If our community would avoid supporting Dick’s due to their ongoing disrespect, they most likely would not sell firearms due to the lack of sales.
For the amount of firearm owners in our Country, we could be a powerful force. Yes, occasionally we’ll pull together, but that unity doesn’t last long. One on hand, this is good as we are mostly independent people who want to be left alone. On the other hand, our independence is our weakness and the other sides knows it and tries to exploit it all of the time through the incremental chipping aware of our rights.
Their message on Twitter clarified a bit. They never returned MSRs to their stores, but acquired Field and Stream, which still sold them. Now they won’t be sold in either store.
They obfuscated both times. And they are getting burned the second time.
They don’t understand that 99% of the shit they peddle can be found online and cheaper.
Guns are still something that people want to touch first.
I am glad they clarified. Now I know to avoid Field and Stream too.
Now I have even more reasons not to shop at Dick’s. I used to occasionally buy small stuff because the local store is next to the supermarket, but from now on I can go the 1/2 mile to Sportsman’s Warehouse. I won’t even miss them since the last time I went in their bike department didn’t have a really common inner tube in stock. Just need to formally cancel my reward card, along with Best Western.
Don’t remember if they did this the last time, but:
If they’d stuck with “We won’t sell these rifles and standard magazines anymore” most people would’ve probably gone ‘Eh.’ But when they follow up with “We want these things BANNED!”, that screws the pooch. They’re liable to find out they don’t just lose gunnies, but a lot of fishermen are likely to say “Screw that and screw you”, too.
By the way, friend of mine once worked in the firearms sections of a Dick’s; I get the feeling that most of the management considered firearms and ammo a sop to the hicks who wanted them, and they’d really rather have gotten rid of them and concentrated on selling fashionable running and workout gear to the Upper Class types.
My favorite Troy carbine , in my safe as I type this, was destined for Dick’s in Dallas. Because of Sandy Hook. Dick’s reneged in the shipment, and paid some financial penalty. The rifles were then sold to DFW Gun Range and Training Center where I was Range Instructor. With my employee discount, I wound up buying a brand new top end Troy for less than 40% of retail.
Thanks Dicks. I will be forever greatful for your cowardice.
