I like Robb, but I prefer:

Years ago, when reading “The Gulag Archipelago” for the first time, I remember Solzhenitsyn wondering why the KGB was not afraid of arresting people? The could tell a man that he would be arrested later that night, and he would just wait passively.
Made quite the impression on me.
