COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — On the one year anniversary of DeVon Bailey’s death, more than 50 protestors marched to the home of one of the Colorado Springs police officers involved in the shooting. They were calling for him to be fired.
On Tuesday, KRDO heard from neighbors who witnessed it all and quickly found themselves involved, even if they did not want to be.
One neighbor, Bobby Cox, said “It was supposed to be a peaceful march and it seemed to be peaceful.”
Neighbors react to De’Von Bailey protest in their neighborhood
They were peaceful in the sense that they could not get people to take the bait. It may have been peaceful in the sense of no visible property damage or physical attacks, but they were loud and foul-mouthed and itching for a confrontation.
In the link above, you can see the video unedited of the march and there was some interesting things I observed. As usual, the problem was the protesters blocking the streets and impeding traffic. Their solution was to place armed “security” in front of the truck and even using a car to block the street.
The “Low Ready” position of the idiot on the extreme left puts him about one second away from harm. It was an unnecessary posture since the truck was at full stop and the driver was engaged in discussion people next to his door.
This was the rest of the ‘team” standing in front of the grey truck. There are 2 more armed individuals floating around.
The car was parked properly, but the moment the truck showed up, they moved it to block the street.
Now this gentleman took exception that the reporter was recording the incident with the gray truck and ordered the cameraman to “Keep the camera there” while pointing at the thickest part of the crowd some distance down the street.
And Player Two enters the game: The blue truck who was not in the mood to take crap. for about a minute things got tense, but a van from the local PD showed up and ordered people to move to the sidewalks and let the trucks go by.
Then the mob decides it would be a good idea to follow blue truck home since it parked about 50 yards away.
They approach the house. The driver is within his property leaning against the truck and the mob’s chanting goes from “No Justice, No Peace…something something racist USA” to “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” because:
Oh yeah, it seems them suburban people dare to have guns! Even the “Security” team appeared a bit flustered that the man was not impressed by their own gear. The mob did not stay long and continue to walk, apparently trying to go back to where they started the rally. They chanted the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” mantra three more times and I assume it was because they saw other homeowners outside with guns and because the last time they chanted, this gentleman was standing outside his home entrance.
Once again, he was not impressed by the “security team” of the protesters, specially after one of them started to cascade a continuous streams of insults to the gentleman and including the following threat:
“You are gonna be judged too and under our rules”
I hope the protesters took away the two major lessons from this march: 1) The suburban neighbors do not give a damn about your cause if you try to shove it down their throats. In fact, they may resent your ass. and 2) You saw guns and may have worried some, but you should be scared about the guns you did not see and the people behind them.
The people who have been shooting and hunting for several decades are less than impressed when you show up with their AR rifle you bought last year. You raise shit and they will locate a well placed shot in your noggin and go back to watch Wheel of Fortune.
