Two styles of Governorship

A couple of weeks ago, DeSantis had a press junket in a barbershop with owners and doctors to announce the opening of salons and barbershops and according to certain specifications designed by people in the business and input from the state’s health officials.  From what I have been able to see, with the exception of the south east counties we all know and love, people in the state of Florida is getting less hirsute.  The principle is, “Yes, we can get people back to work in a safe manner and altogether.”

Now compare to today in Michigan and under the “guidance” of Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

You cannot tell me that the whole damn state is equally affected by Wuhan V.  Michigan is not Molokai full of lepers or an Ebola ward in Western Africa.  It seems that the principle of governance and good administration are not compatible with Ms Whitmer’s brain.  The all-or-nothing approach shows an inflexible person with a serious lack of imaginaton.

I have no idea when she is up for re-election, but she should not be allowed back in the job.  somebody like her is a danger to the people she is sworn to protect.

DeSantis lets journalists have it.

This week, the lates “scandal” was the accusation by a former State IT about the numbers given by the state would no longer be reliable. The lady in question was in charge of Florida’s COVID-19 Data and Surveillance Dashboard website and apparently she refused to follow the instructions of her bosses and go fired for insubordination. She dumped an poison email last Friday saying she could no longer guarantee the truthfulness of the information which the media immediately latched as to reflect ALL the data was suspect. Of course, that would also accuse the “whistleblower” of tainting the numbers, but they don’t care.

DeSantis was asked today about it and here is his response:

But how available is the data? You just need to go to the Florida Covid-19 Response page and check the big buttons at the bottom of the main page.  The one titled “Review case, monitoring and PUI information on the latest COVID-19 Report.” is 829 pages long and describes case by case, county by county.  It does not get any more detailed than that.

This whole faux scandal is simply the urgent need to find a way to dismiss Florida’s success with a Republican Governor. The Narrative is that Republicans want people dead, specially the elderly and children and that is why they go door to door adding lead to the water of Flint, Michigan. The Media cannot stomach the fact that Backwater Florida, full with immigrants that do not necessarily fall into the Democrat Plantation has done a much better job than the members of the Governmental Intelligentsia of New York and surrounding areas.

And also, the Media prophesized death and more death from Florida and who is this dumb Florida-born Dago to do shit that contradicts them? He must be dragged through the mud.

Wuhan V. and the dictators in Banana Republics

Zulia is one of the largest states in Venezuela and where most of the oil production is located.  Wuhan V. seems to have defied the Socialist preventive measures and it is spreading fast.

we over here have complained loudly and rightfully about Governors being little dictators in their states. And here we have a dictator-baked governor upping the ante and “retaining” (confiscating) cars after 2:00 pm (A curfew from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm 2:00 pm to 8:00 am has been imposed).

Another measure to be used is if they find a liquor store open: They will shut it down, cancel its license and confiscate the booze.  And 24 hour arrest for anybody caught outside without a mask.

Will this become and international competition among governors?

Found an old failed experiment in Gun Control

I did some much needed cleaning in the desk drawers las night and found this old ode to stupidity.

Behold the Ballistic Fingerprinting! Some states demanded that the manufacturers send a spent bullet or a spent case to them so they could keep a record to be used in solving gun crimes. Maryland was the most famous spending millions of dollars and not a single case solved in 15 years. The project was finally scrapped.

FN Herstal added a copy of the spent case, much in the European fashion but without the test paper target,  with every gun.  Thankfully the follies of ballistic fingerprinting and microstamping have been relegated to the back burner in the restaurant across the street. I am not saying they are dead because like Herpes, some Liberal congresscritter will flare it back every so often which is why we keep fighting.

Mom’s Green Peas’ recipe

No normal human like green peas. They are good for you and let’s face it, we need some of that green stuff, but those orbs are not exactly tasty.

Mom had a simple recipe that made me wolf down the suckers like they were Cheetos and I figured you can benefit from it.

OK, here we go. Frozen peas, about a pound with two medium potatoes cut round about 1/2 inch thick. Unfortunately the peas are done in 5 minutes in boiling water and the taters take longer so you are gonna need 2 pots.  Stare boiling the potatoes and when they start to get soft, bring the peas to a boil for 5 minutes or tender. DON’T FORGET THE SALT (I did)

Now, you need the “sofrito.” Don’t worry, it ain’t nothing weird, in fact you will like it. One onion chopped very small, 2 slices of bacon also cut very small (get kitchen shears, trust me, you will go faster) and about an inch and a half of Spanish chorizo also cut very small.  If you don’t have chorizo in your neck of the woods, don’t fret, you can still do the recipe or try a substitute.

Besides the salt, you will need olive oil and paprika (get smoked if you can.)

Pour about a tablespoon of the oil in a pan and start sautéing the onions fist. Once they start to blanch, drop the bacon and about 5 minutes later, the chorizo.  Add about a heaping teaspoon of paprika, just enough to give it color. When you notice the bacon and onions cooked but not crisp, take it off the eye an set aside.

Here comes the hard part: drain the water out of cooked peas and tater, dump them back into one of the pots and then pour the sofrito on top of them.

Stir gently and mix well. Add more paprika till you get a reddish/orangish hue all over, slightly more in the potatoes.

And that’s it. If you are a fast potato peeler, you can knock the whole dish in about 30 minutes. less if you have done any prep.  The potatoes are the ones that take the longest, so you can do the “heavy” work as they cook.

My guess it serves about 4 people if two of them are women eating like healthy or two guys can wolf down the lot. My caloric guesstimate is about 390 for a cup and a half.  Or just ignore the whole thing and enjoy it.
