Campus Reform has been doing a good job of tracking the attack on mathematics as a subject by Social Justice ideologues in academia.

The core idea is that math is racist.

Meritocracy in math is a “tool of whiteness.”

White people, their experiences, and their behaviors as superior (Battey & Leyva, 2016; Martin, 2009b), and it is supported by a set of corollary principles that function as “tools of Whiteness” (Picower, 2009, p. 204). For instance, the ideological principle of the United States as meritocracy is understood by any to be a central feature of American society, dictating that a combination of hard work and talent, or as cast in recent years, “grit” (Duckworth, Peterson, Matthews, & Kelly, 2007), yields success. Equivalently, the principle of meritocracy also dictates that lack of success is a result of a lack of effort or ability (e.g., Battey & Franke, 2015; Martin, 2009b). This principle functions as tool of whiteness in how it ignores “systemic barriers and institutional structures that prevent opportunity and success” (Milner, 2012, p. 704) as well as institutional structures that facilitate opportunities and the distribution of rewards not according to merit but instead according to race and social background (Bowles & Gintis, 2002; McIntosh, 1988). 

Algebra pushes white supremacism because “curricula emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi perpetuate a perception that mathematics was largely developed by Greeks and other Europeans.”

Math, according to these people, should be used to push Social Justice.

All of these attacks remind me of a video I saw with the head of the Purdue School of Engineering Education – not engineering but engineering education.

She sees it as a problem that engineers value “rigor.”

This is the difference between someone in engineering and engineering education.

Rigor – the example she uses of an engineer using more complex math equations – is important because rigor takes into account more variables.  It is is more complete solution.  Rigor is the difference between simple calculations and a finite element analysis.  It is the difference between the Wright Brothers Flyer and a Boeing Dreamliner.

This is the systematic destruction of technical knowledge.

For millennia the progress of society was towards greater knowledge and understanding.    We went from the stone age to the bronze age, to the iron age, to the plastics age, to the digital age.  We gathered more information and used it to construct better lives for ourselves.

Social Justice invades academia and the attitude becomes one of ignorance.

The greatest societal achievement, in their minds, is to be stupid know-nothings, but “fair.”

The result of this will be people in “engineering” (I use quotes because it won’t really be engineering anymore) who lack the ability to understand once common technologies.  Forget research and development, we will have graduating students that can’t handle the fundamentals.

Bridges won’t stay up, airplanes will fall out of the sky, the lights will go out, and people will die.

This needs to stop or future generations will find themselves wandering through the ruins of 20th Century civilization the way the Vandals of the Dark Ages must of looked upon the ruins of Rome.

Back in August of last year, the news reported that he was considering running for office.  I said at the time, that if he was elected, it would be a Fort Sumter moment.

I watched the video from his announcement.

I’m not entirely sure what

“We need to stop asking them to give us our rights.
They won’t support us.
They won’t compromise.
We need to stop expecting that our systems will somehow fix themselves.
We need to actually take the reins of power from them.”

Means in terms of running for office.  That sounds more like the creed of a small time revolutionary than a candidate for public office.

Here is the bad news.  I am afraid that Manning has good chance at winning.  He is a hero to the chic Left, with magazine spreads and parade honors and all.  He was going to be hired by Harvard until enough people complained.  He is an avowed confiscatory socialist.

If Maxine Waters can become “Auntie” Maxine and a hero to #Resistance, Manning as a good chance in a deep blue state to get elected because “fuck Trump.”

Everything that a rational person would list as disqualifying for being elected to the Senate, being charged with “aiding the enemy,” convicted for violating the espionage act, being ridiculously “anti-police,” are all  positives for the #Resistance.

The only way for him to lose is to be cut out of the primary by another Democrat.  I’m not sure if they’d do that.  He checks all the boxes as a young, trans-women, who committed treason against the US military and was a “political prisoner” commuted by Obama.

Here is the good news.

Right about the time that he wins the election, Kimber would have relocated to Alabama.  That means that Southern States will have Glock, Kimber, a large part of H&K, most of Remington, Beretta, FNH USA, and Lake City.

When it comes time to go our own separate ways, I think we’ll be just fine this time around.

In all the hysterics that have occurred in the last 24 to 48 hours about Trump and shithole countries, and before that debates over DACA, Dreamers, amnesty, and chain migration, there is a YUGE central question that gets totally skipped over.

Who should be the primary beneficiary of immigration?

That is the real question between the left and right on the issue of immigration.

I will acknowledge that a leaked memo from a high ranking Democrat insider said that Dreamers becoming citizens is critical for Democrat electoral success – the DNC needs illegals to be able to vote to win elections.  I don’t believe that everybody on the Left is that cynically calculating on illegal immigration.

It’s worse than that, they are true believers in one of the answers to the above question.

So what are the answers?

1) America/Americans should be the primary beneficiary of immigration.

2) Immigrants themselves should be the primary beneficiary of immigration.

Fundamentally, Conservatives believe in Answer No. 1 and Liberals/Progressives believe in Answer No. 2.

This is evident in the arguments and policies made by each side.

Conservatives genuinely love America in an as-is condition and want to protect her and her citizens.  The Conservative attitude on immigration is that people from all over the world can come to America but America has the right to decide who and come here and under what conditions.  Conservatives priorities people who have the best chance for free market success in the US, e.g. people who have skills and talents, as well as a personal drive to succeed.  Conservatives want immigrants to come in at a manageable rate so that they can be integrated into American society.

It’s likely then that the immigrant from around the world who comes here will prosper more here than they will in their home land, but the primary beneficiary of that immigrant coming here is America, with the addition of another taxpaying, prosperous, resident adding to the economy.

On the overhand…

Liberals don’t like America as-is – they hate patriotic songs, the 4th of July, the troops, really any expression of patriotism.  They think that America is a racist, bigoted, xenophobic, nation, so why would they want people to emigrate to it?  They believe that America got rich from colonialism and the exploitation of other (browner skin) nations.  This is the central theme of Howard Zinn’s People’s History of the United States.

The Liberal perspective on immigration is that the poorest people from the poorest nations should come here, in droves, as a form of reparations.  Overall, more than half of immigrants on are goverment assistance.  Among certain groups, like Middle Eastern refugees favored by Obama, over 90% are on food assistance and 68% are on cash welfare.  The net cost to California for illegal immigration is $23 Billion dollars.

The people the Left wants to import are the least likely to succeed.  They are the poorest and most poorly educated people from the shittiest of the shithole countries, who are almost guaranteed to need to live for some period of time on taxpayer funded, government assistance.

But if you believe that America got rich by exploiting poorer nations, than this type of immigration policy is just giving poor, brown skin, people their money back.  America’s economy must be sacrifices for the benefit of immigrants.

There is a reason why, when listening to the Democrats, you get the idea that every Dreamer is a valedictorian who is going to cure cancer then pilot a spaceship to the moon, and the general sense that they value illegal immigrants more than citizens.

So…

Saying “we don’t want people from these shitholes” to a Conservative is saying “we don’t want illiterate, unskilled people to come here who are going to live on welfare and not contribute anything to America.”

Perhaps there is a better way of conveying that sentiment.  My best friend is the American born son of immigrants from Venezuela.  They have degrees in petroleum engineering and have done well in the US.  Azerbaijan is a poor nation, but my undergrad department head was a Soviet educated petroleum engineer from there.  I believe that we should admit people from poor nations, but they should be the best and brightest who can come here and put their knowledge and skills to building a better America.  I’ll take a Brazilian surgeon, the gang member can stay behind.

Saying “we don’t want people from these shitholes” to a Liberal is saying “America stole their money making them more and now we want them to stay there because we’re racist.

Either you believe that when immigrants come here they should add to the power of America’s economy or they should be able to live of handouts of America’s largess.

There is no compromise between these two positions.

I saw Miguel’s post Thank You. I’ll pass on those puppies. and I thought I’d toss in my two cents.

I hate pit bulls.  I loathe pit bulls.  By extension, I hate pit bull owners too.

You can tell me all you want about how it’s not the breed, it’s the owner.  I know and I still don’t care.

Dog fighting is a large part of Cuban culture and has been adopted by blacks in Miami.  Backyard dog fighting is popular in poorer black and Cuban neighborhoods all over Miami.  There was even a documentary about this available on Netflix.  Miami-Dade county banned pit bulls and mastiffs for this reason but dog fighting is still a problem.

Dog fighting is illegal.  So the people in Miami who run dog fighting rings didn’t just do dog fighting.  Dog fighting is associated with drug dealing, gambling, and all sorts of other criminal activity.  So it should come as no supersize that dog fighting rings are often run by gangs.

So growing up in Miami when you saw a pit bull, you were almost 100% guaranteed that the owner was a complete criminal piece of shit.  Being banned, there was only one reason to have a pit bull out in the open and that was for intimidation.  Walking around with a pit bull was about the same as walking around brandishing a pistol-grip shotgun.

It was a message to everyone “I’m a hard ass you don’t want to fuck with.”

Just like idiot criminals who shoot innocent bystanders, these fighting dogs get out and maul innocent children.

So when it comes to pit bulls in South Florida, if I see one, my first inclination is to go for my gun; and if I have to draw it an use it, the first few rounds are for the dog, the rest are for the owner.

A few people who commented on this post don’t quite seem to get what I m talking about and have accused me of having an opinion on pit bulls like anti gunners on assault weapons.

Let me see if I can make this a little clearer.

In the gun world there is an aphorism: when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

Well, Miami-Dade county outlawed pit bulls and consequently only outlaws have pit bulls.

The dog is a weapon.  It is trained and tortured and tormented into a killing machine.  It’s not a loving family pet.

In places were open carry is legal, and you see some guy walking around with a gun holstered, he’s not a threat.

In Miami, there is no equivalent with pit bulls.  There is nobody taking their family pit bull out for a walk.

The equivalent gun metaphor is a guy in a place where open carry is illegal walking around holding a pistol, pointing it people.

When do you see a put bull on a leash?  When somebody wants to start shit with you.  They come out for neighbor disputes.  You read news reports about some guy going over to his neighbor’ house to complain about a party and brought a gun with him.  In Miami, it’s the same thing except the neighbor brought a pit bull on a chain.

Except it’s worse.   A gun just sitting there won’t kill anybody.  Pit bulls that have been trained to fight, tortured into being super aggressive get out an maul children and innocent bystanders.

This isn’t some irrational namby-pamby fear.

This is knowing that (in Miami, like I said above) the snarling, bristling dog on the end of that chain isn’t a cuddly house pet,  it want’s to kill you because the guy holding the chain made it that way.

And let me make this perfectly clear.  IF I have to shoot the pit bull, and then the owner, it is because Mr. Piece-of-shit-criminal with his fighting dog, let it go.  He “fire the first shot,” not with a gun but with a fighting dog.

This is Trump at his most honest.

Let’s be absolutely clear about something.  On balance, most of the nations in the world are shitholes.

I’m supposed to be offended that Trump has a problem with nations that chop off hands for theft or voting.  In fact, chopping off hands is the past time in the every nation in the Middle East and horn of Africa, except for Israel of course.

If you want to vomit, look up what Necklacing is and know that it is on the rise again in South Africa.

Then there is stoning, female genital mutilation, acid throwing.

Poor children in El Salvador are murdered for sport.

There are places in the world where it is believed that raping a child is a cure for AIDS.

There are places in the world where albino people are murdered by witch doctors because it is believes their bodies have magical powers.

Starvation, oppression, torture, and death are the norm for huge regions of the world.  Life is grinding misery and poverty.

Why is the West not like this?  Well, occasionally it is (the Holocaust, Holodomor, Communism, etc), but in general, the answer is The Greeks.

Athenian democracy was developed about 500 BC and then the Romans carried it on for a while.  After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Catholic Church preserved the philosophy of the Romans, there by saving Europe and inspiring the renaissance.  Then there was the Enlightenment in England, form there America was founded and Viola!  It only took 2,500 years of cultural evolution, with some serious hiccups in the process.

Most of the world didn’t experience that, and where it wasn’t experienced are shitholes.

While I am willing to embrace people who want to come to America to build better lives for themselves, I don’t want to flood America with shit people from shithole nations.

Think about making a roux.  You have to add the flower slowly to the sauce to integrate it.   Then it comes out smooth.  If you dump in a bunch of flower all at once, the roux turns to shit.

Flood America with shit people from shitholes without a process of initiation and America turns to shit.

Fox was the president of Mexico, while it turned into a failing narco-state.   Also known as a cartel run shithole.  Fox himself is a corrupt piece of shit just like the rest of Mexico’s leadership.

There is a reason Fox and other Mexican presidents have a problem with restricting illegal immigration.    They use the United States like a trashcan.  The Mexican goverment actually printed pamphlets encouraging the poor to enter the US illegally.  Rather than deal with Mexico’s problems and trying to help the poor, rather than creating a social welfare system and ending crime, the Mexican government throws its poor over the boarder into the US to make them our problem.

Fox has no respect for the US.  A rational nation would ask why 5% of it’s population wants to flee.  A shithole says “the poor are leaving, let’s pocket the money.”

The absolutely worst thing for Mexican leadership is to crack down on illegal immigration, because Mexico would have to actually deal with its domestic problems.

Kimber America is opening a manufacturing facility in Troy, Alabama.

Remeber that Beretta USA opened a plant in Gallatin, Tennessee, and then shuttered it’s Maryland plant because Maryland was too unfriendly to guns.

Remington also opened a plant in Huntsville and consolidated Bushmaster, DPMS, Para USA, and Remington R&D and manufacturing from separate locations to that single large facility.

My guess is that this is step one of a plan that will eventually lead to the closing down of the Yonkers, New York plant, and possibly the Montana plant and consolidate all engineering and manufacturing in a single location.

As much as I am wont to welcome another gun company to the south, and Alabama especially, I wonder how the employees at Kimber are going to take being relocated from New York City (Yonkers is not technically in NYC but is a suburb, just north of the Bronx) to southern Alabama?

There might be a bit of a culture shock there.
