Design review at Boston Dynamics

Manager: “I saw your new robot, what do you call it? Spot?

Engineer: “Yes sir, Spot.”

Manager: “Well it is creepy and disturbing, but it doesn’t exactly have that same ‘strikes fear deep into your soul’ quality that our other robots have.  Is there something you can do about that?”

Engineer: “Well, we have a design for an actuator arm that looks like a snake designed by the devil.  We can use that to give Spot a head.  Also, the devil-snake-arm-head will be able to open doors.”

Manager: *Piss starts running down his leg* “I think you are onto something.”

Engineer: “I’ll let the boys in assembly know.”

Lying by numbers

I’ve seen this bit of data before.

It it’s both accurate and misleading at the same time.

What the people who post this want you to believe is that gun stores are EVERYWHERE and that why people are dying.   Americans are crazy and they love guns more than food.

Or some shit like that.

The way that number was determined was by obtaining the number of active FFLs and claiming they are all gun stores.

That number includes every Walmart in America.  Every DICK’S, (at least when I was a kid) Sport Authority, Scheel’s, Bass Pro, and Academy Sports in America.  Every Runnings Farm and Fleet, Rural King, and a whole bunch of Ace Hardware stores (the franchise allows owners to get an FFL).  Nearly every Pawn Shop in America.  I’ve been in countless bait and tackle shops, even a couple of truck stops (swear to God) that had a small counter for guns and ammo.

Not to mention the “kitchen table dealers” who only do transfers or online sales.

Hell, I knew some engineering consultants that have them for the purposes of litigation consulting so they can have firearms involved in lawsuits shipped directly to them.

The point is, there are a lot of FFLs that nobody thinks of as “gun stores” except when a liberal wants to scare the crap out of ignorant people.

But as Miguel puts it so well “if thier cause is righteous, why must they lie?”

The police will protect you AND cognitive dissonance – Texas twofer

Guy wrestles the gun away from an attempted shooter at a church.  The police come in and shoot the good guy because he’s holding the gun.

The whole situation was a cluster fuck with the Church’s unarmed security guard running away and the cop perhaps being a little trigger happy.

I’m just reminded of Reagan’s famous quote “the most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”

But that’s not where this story ends.

From the party that brought you “only the police should have guns” and stood by the Broward Sheriff against the NRA comes this.

Those cops, who are the only people who should have guns, are racists who murder POC.

With that argument, maybe it’s a good thing the BCS waited outside.   Otherwise they would have gone in and started shooting the black students and ignored Cruz because he’s white.

I can’t keep track of these people’s positions anymore.

You csnt can’t have a gun because the police are there to protect you and they are all trigger happy racist murders.

I’m confused.

Listen to the kids

Since the Parkland shooting, I’ve been hearing all over the media why it is time to let 16 year olds vote.

The short answer is: they support far left wing anti gun policies.

They hypocrisy has been pointed out that the same people who want to give 16 year olds the right to vote want to make the age for buying a gun 21.  There is far greater national damage to be done by letting immature people have the franchise than letting them have guns.  Most 16 year olds won’t shoot anybody, but most of them would probably pull the trigger for a Sanders/Warren ticket.

Others have mocked the idea that the kids who were eating Tide Pods until February 13 for internet fame are capable of handling the responsibility of the franchise after February 14 – because they marched for a Left Wing cause.

A march in Stockton some five days ago I think blows a hole in this idea, which is why I didn’t hear about it until just last night, and not through any national news outlet.

It seems that many of these kids don’t care about the Left Wing politics, and simply wanted a day off from school.  When adults in law enforcement stood up to them, the kids got violent.

Some Stockton students become violent during anti-gun protest

At least five students were arrested Friday as hundreds of others from several Stockton high schools walked out of classes in protest of gun violence after last week’s deadly shooting at a Florida high school.

Students at Stagg, Edison, Chavez, Lincoln and Village Oak high schools were walking along streets, creating traffic problems in the area as streets were blocked off.

Stockton police said some students threw rocks and damaged both police and citizen vehicles.

During one incident, an officer approached a group of students attempting to leave a school by jumping a fence. When the officer approached the students, police said they fought with the officer and took his baton.

These kids have been empowered by the media the way Occupy Wall Street was, as the “voice of a movement” and just like OWS, all they really did was smash things.

That kind of behavior only makes me want to support their movement more.

No wait, it doesn’t.  Once again it begs the question: “why are anti gun activists so violent?”

I actually liked these kids better when they were just eating Tide Pods.

The police with protect you, LA edition

Anti gun activists love to say: “you don’t need a gun because the police will protect you.”

In the last two weeks we have seen a mountain of evidence from the Broward County Sheriff why that isn’t true.

Fortunately for the LAPD, the massive cluster-fuck of cowardice and incompetence out of the BSO has been all over the news.

Why fortunately?

‘They terrorized them.’ Two LAPD cops plead no contest to raping women while on duty.

WOW!!!  Which is worse, four cops standing around listening to kids get murdered or “two cops were accused of raping women in alleys, apartments – and their unmarked police car.”  I’m really having a hard time answering that rhetorical question.

James Christopher Nichols, 46, and Luis Gustavo Valenzuela, 45, former Los Angeles Police Department partners in the Hollywood Division, pleaded no contest Monday to two counts each of forcible rape and forcible oral copulation, reported the Los Angeles Daily News. They received 25-year prison sentences and must register as sex offenders in a plea deal to avoid the possibility of serving life in prison.

Nichols and Valenzuela were accused of attacking four women between 2008 and 2011, reported KABC. The women, ages 19 to 34, were involved in narcotics investigations, and the LAPD officers forced the women to have sex with them to avoid jail time or being exposed as police informants, court documents say.

At least one fellow LAPD officer called them out on this publicly.

“How dare they. They wore a badge to protect people and instead they terrorized them,” Detective Carla Zuniga, one of the lead investigators in the case, told the Los Angeles Times. “They tarnished the public trust. People trust the police. Every time something like this happens, we have to walk into the community and say, ‘No, that’s not us.’

Between the BSO and LAPD we have a group of people who will watch a massacre happen then rape the survivors.

I know there are good cops who run towards the danger with the intention of helping people.  But that does not negate the need for self reliance and personal responsibility.

I’m a good friend

So I’ve been telling you all about my buddy in Miami who is working for The Bull and lives very close to ground zero of this anti gun hysteria and incompetent cop shit storm.

I thought I’d do him a favor and get him some liberal camouflage.

I made him some dummy business cards on Vista Print.  If he gets cornered by some anti gunners he could toss a few of these out (name and number redacted for the post) to alleviate any suspicion that he is one of us.

Common sense lesson in business

Years ago, I remember being taught in one of my business classes in college about an anecdote about McDonald’s french fries.  McDonald’s used to cook their fries in oil and beef tallow.  That’s what made them so good.  A small group of very loud people, mostly vegans, PETA, and two angry Hindus, made a stink over this, and they switched to “beef flavor.”  The fries didn’t taste as good.  The vegans and Hindus in the US didn’t start eating at McDonald’s but McDonald’s fry fans stopped.  It was overall, a disaster for McDonald’s.

The lesson: a handful of very loud annoying people shouldn’t shift you from successful business practices.  It’s not worth throwing away huge sums of money to attract a few, really obnoxious potential customers.

This is why big business shouldn’t get into politics.

Delta dropped the NRA discount.  Personally, I don’t care.  I don’t fly for fun and my  company pays for the lowest cost flight, so I don’t get to pick my carrier.

What this did was piss off the GA state GOP.

Delta used to have a tax exemption on state fuel tax in GA.  That meant that Delta didn’t have t pay fuel tax on all the refueling it did through its Atlanta hub.  Saving the company some $40 Million per year.

The tax lapsed and Delta has been trying to get it back.

Just days ago it would have been a cake walk.  I’m not a fan of cronyism in business, but Delta was planing expansions out of Atalanta, including going all the way to China.  So a cut in taxes was supposed to result in job growth for GA, and I’m all for job creation.

Well, Delta caved to the anti NRA pressure and now the GA GOP has put the Kibosh on the fuel tax cut.

Delta wanted to play politics and now they got dunked on.

I’m not an accountant for Delta but I’d assume that the $40 Million in fuel taxes is worth a lot more to the company than the handful of militant anti gun owners who would boycott Delta.

People talk a big game about boycotts on Twitter, but most of those people, six months for now, will pull the trigger  on the cheapest or most convenient flight they can find and forget all about the boycott.  If Delta saw a drop in sales it cold tie to the NRA, then, next fiscal quarter or year they could announce dumping the NRA as a justified business decision.  Right now, they just blew a $40 Million dollar hole in their profits.

This is why you don’t bow to obnoxious activists.  When the news cycle shifts to the next big topic, all you’ve really done is fucked yourself.
