Ft. Lauderdale’s City Commisioners Virtual Signaling hard.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – A South Florida city is ending gun shows at its auditorium in wake of the massacre that happened at a nearby high school.
Fort Lauderdale city commissioners agreed Tuesday to end gun shows at the city’s War Memorial Auditorium after 30 years after the organizer’s agreement expires in November after five more shows.
The Sun Sentinel reported commissioners suggested organizer Khaled Akkawi move the event to the Broward County Convention Center instead of the auditorium, which is in a park. He was amenable to the idea although his attorney said he believes Akkawi has the contractual right to remain at the auditorium through 2025.
A gunman killed 17 students and staff members Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which is in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Parkland.

Fort Lauderdale to move gun show after Parkland shooting.

And before you get mad, I just want to point out that the City Commissioners originally wanted the show ended, period. But I guess lawyers intervened, reminded them that the guy a contract till 2015 and that also they would be violating the First Amendment, specifically the “free assembly” section.

And no, they are not sending them to some crappy location. War Memorial Auditorium is an old-school hall while the Broward County Convention Center is modern and a better facility and now close to the beach with a heavier traffic from all the hotels in the area and the Port Everglades where all the cruise ships dock. In fact the port is the next door neighbor.

Why do I get the feeling that the City Commissioners screwed the pooch when they rushed to kill the Gun Show?

The late Bob Brownell and I have something in common.

I think I got this from Brownell’s Twitter account and it depicts Bob Brownell checking the company’s newsletter IIRC. I had an immediate moment of nostalgia because of the machine displayed: A Multilith 1250 Offset Printer. I had mentioned before that my dad had a print shop and that is the machine we had alongside a newer version of the same model. I started working them things when I was about 12 years old and kept working for 10 years till I went to college in the US. In fact, half the money I had for college was wages made working with that machine.

Dad sort of retired, but kept his printing shop as something to do or else mom would kill him for being a pest. He had only two clients and would work Monday through Wednesday only; Thursdays he and mom would drive to the beach and spend the long weekend in an apartment we had.

When he passed, one of the most difficult things I had to do getting everything set for mom was to sell the printing stuff. It was not easy and it showed me how nasty a moral-less could some people be. The machines did end in the hands of good people who paid well and appreciated the care we had given to the machines for decades.

Sorry to have gotten all mushy, but it guess sharing some personal stuff now and then is a requisite for a Blogger.

The British Example: 78 year old homeowner arrested for defending himself.

A 78-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a suspected burglar was stabbed to death.
The homeowner discovered two intruders in Further Green Road, Hither Green, south-east London, at about 00:45 BST.
One suspect, armed with a screwdriver, forced the man into his kitchen where a struggle ensued and he was stabbed, Scotland Yard said.
The 38-year-old was taken to hospital by paramedics but was pronounced dead at 03:40.
The pensioner, who suffered bruising to his arms, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He remains in custody at a south London police station.
Police said they were called to the property over reports of a burglary where they found a man with a stab wound to the upper body.
The dead man’s next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination would take place “in due course”, the Met added.
The second suspect remains at large.

Hither Green ‘burglar’ stabbing: Man, 78, arrested

Wee hours of the night, two bad guys break into your house, threaten you with a deadly weapon, rough you up. You had the wherewithal to defend yourself and one of the criminals pays the ultimate price for bad victim selection and the Crown in all its wisdom declares you a suspect of murder.

Isn’t ironic that in the land of knights and castles that the Castle Doctrine does not exist?

But what do you expect of a country that taxes the use of TV broadcasting and even streaming and has enforcement units out in the streets to catch the hideous criminals who do not pay the tax?

Florida: And this is why they want to go after State Pre-Emption.

Owners of assault weapons living in north suburban Deerfield have until June 13 to remove the firearms from village limits or face daily fines after a ban was approved Monday night.
The Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a ban on certain types of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, amending a 2013 ordinance that regulated the storage of those items.
The new ordinance prohibits the possession, sale and manufacturing of certain types of assault weapons and large capacity magazines within the village, according to the legislation. One change from the law as it was originally discussed exempts retired police officers, according to Village Manager Kent Street.
Violations carry a fine of between $250 and $1,000 per day, according to Matthew Rose, the village attorney. He said the fine is levied each day until there is compliance.

Deerfield bans assault weapons and high-capacity magazines

But remember, they just want some common sense gun laws and they don’t want to ban anything or violate your rights. And that is why we have the State Pre-Emption law in Florida.

Basically what this cities want to do is the firearm’s equivalent of a Speed Trap writ large. Screwing with your Rights and make money at the same time? Oh yes, they will

Maybe it is me, a cultural thing?

When you are still a kid and your parents let you have a key for opening a location, but do not trust you enough just yet, they make you wear it around the neck.  That is in the hope that having it under clothes and chained will make it harder for you to lose it. I remember I was supposed to do that when I was allowed finally to come and go to school on my own, but I refused and came up with a key ring attachment that I still use to this day.  I was not going to be forced to wear that “sign” of shame and I never did.

So this picture from J. Kb.’s previous post screams “immature teenager” to me.

And, of course, filling the backpack with Tampax is the kind of infantile joke that has a specific laughter as soundtrack.

Are these the people who Legislatures and Companies allegedly are afraid of? Really?

Legislator: Why didn’t your group vote for me?”
Citizen: “Because you were conned by a bunch of teenagers carrying clear backpacks filled with tampons . You are too stupid to hold office, much less to trust you to defend our rights.”

Gun Salespeople of the month: Sinead Gonzales and “Junior Goebbels” Hogg.

Folks, they did it. March 2018 is going down as the month coming in second fourth as in most Firearms Background Checks = 2,767,699.

Number one is December 2015 (2,783,765) which I figure is a combination of the usual Christmas rush and the threats of passing an Assault Weapons Ban after Sandy Hook.

A measly difference of 16,066 BG checks against Number 3. and there might be a reason(s).  I just got back from annoying Rick from 305GUNS.com, the coolest FFL in NW Miami Dade County, and he was telling me about info he got from a small-not-so-small AR manufacturer who has been selling 4,000 lowers a week since this mess started and it has backorders for well over 60 days. We are talking lowers already paid for but have not been manufactured because of capacity and just this company could have mad the difference. Also, many manufacturers (if not) all had reduced the production lines after the initial avalanche in 2012-2013 so I am guessing they got caught again trying to keep with demand. And if y ou have checked different AR manufacturing websites, you already know that the most popular category is “out of stock.”

So guys, stand up and take a bow. There is a boatload of new and minty-fresh ARs on the hands of the Citizens of the United States of America.

Hoorra!

Update: Corrected from earlier version because I did not read carefully and  used CTRL + F not quite right.

The Illegal Alien Caravan has been stopped.

Reading about it over 90 Miles From Tyranny. Kinda funny that the Mexican Government suddenly remembered that it had to enforce its laws regarding immigration.

I have been wondering who was behind this political stunt. We are talking people from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and other Central American countries, and then I read in the tweets one little word: Chiapas.

Zapatista Army of National Liberation
Chiapas is the southernmost state of Mexico and port of entry for illegals in Mexico. But it is also the location of one Zapatista Army of National Liberation, as far as I know the only active communist militant group in Mexico.  They had a brief moment of Media Relevancy in the 90s when NAFTA came about and Comandante Marcos was seen (briefly) as the Mexican Che Guevara and it was true, just as Guevara, Comandante Marcos did not do squat.

The Zapatistas have been hanging around in Chiapas doing pretty much nothing but being pests. Are they directly responsible for the Caravan? No idea, but it would not surprise me that they had an influence in it, specially after reading their list of demands.

Some people were seeing the Caravan as an invasion, others were seeing it as a Day at the Range.

Oh well.
