Attention Criminals: Uber is now a Gun Free Zone.

Via Concealed Nation:

UBER FIREARMS PROHIBITION POLICY We seek to ensure that everyone using the Uber digital platform—both driver-partners and riders—feels safe and comfortable using the service. During a ride arranged through the Uber platform, Uber and its affiliates therefore prohibit possessing firearms of any kind in a vehicle. Any rider or driver found to have violated this prohibition may lose access to the Uber platform.

And remember, Uber drivers are independent contractors, something happens and you cannot sue Uber HQ. Like the old carny saying: You pays your money and you take your chances.

Somebody thought this is a good idea? (EMTs & Paramedics chime in) UPDATED

So I am reading that Dylann Roof (A.K.A. Mr Smegma) was taking the drug Suboxone which is a combination of Buprenorphine (Opioid) and Naloxone which is an special narcotic drug that reverses the effects of other narcotic medicines. Naloxone is known by another name: Narcan. This is given to junkies who suffer an overdose and as I have heard and read, the junkies come out of the OD highly aggressive and they need to be restrained with chains & metal straps…OK just regular straps.

So we are basically giving speedball to screwed up pieces of human detritus and people are shocked that shit happens?

And no, I am not excusing the guy with the breakfast bowl haircut. Just call me when you need to flip the switch on his chair and I’ll gladly do it.

UPDATE: Check the comments section, great info offered by those who know about Suboxone and correcting my initial impression. Thanks to all. 😀

The Myth of Church Sanctuary and its magical energy field.

I have been watching with sad amazement at people being incredulous about some twisted little man walking into a church and converting it into a shooting gallery. Churches are supposed to be places of peace, untouched by the evils of the world, right? Anybody with bad intentions or a dark soul is supposed to be stopped by some sort of magical power allowing the faithful to be safe, just like what happened to Demian in The Omen.

Sadly, the shooting at Emanuel AME Church proves that this magical thinking is tragically and dangerously wrong. Dylann Roof, that poor excuse for conglomeration of human DNA, was not stopped by a lightning bolt from the skies nor repelled by a Star Trek-like force field, instead he waltzed right in, sat for an hour prepping himself for the killing.

Sanctuary:
“… a place where fugitives can seek temporary refuge in a particular city or on religious property…. (O)nce the fugitive entered sanctuary he was deemed to be under the protection of divine law, exceeding the control of worldly powers.
(For a great description & history of the concept, click here.)

And, of course, if the sanctuary is extended to those who commit crimes, those who are good people have to be covered by the same security blanket. At least that is how I think the whole idea of an inviolable church space became part of the collective mindset and it is a nice thought except it only works under if all parties agree to respect sanctuary. By now it is painfully obvious that Dylann Roof did not give a damn about sanctuary.

Attacks on churches go back to Colonial times to the point that townships passed laws ordering the faithful to be armed for services or be fined. During the wars of independence in South America, both sides had no problems using churches to either imprison towns people or even downright killing them all in a controlled environment followed by burning the building itself. During the Spanish Civil war, the Republican Reds would often purge towns of Loyalists by instituting firing squads, using the walls of churches as backstop and leaving the bodies right there to rot. Countless missionary churches were burned to the ground with people inside across Asia in the early to mid 20th Century. In 1980, archbishop Oscar Romero was shot during services in El Salvador by presumed Death Squads. Many churches are aware not only of the dangers from outside, but also from their own members who may have been going through tough times that they have instituted security teams, unknown by the rest of the parishioners and ready to act at a moment’s notice. So basically the idea that a church just because is a church is supposed to offer some sort of perfect protection is dangerous at its very core. In fact, it is the original Gun Free Zone.

Is it shocking that killers would come to the House of The Lord and slay the innocent? Yes, but it should be the same shocking as in any house, as in your house where you have the God Given right to defend yourself against an attacker. Yet, somehow we the Children of God are supposed to forego that right in His House according to misguided thoughts of what some people consider to be “peaceful.”

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

7 June 2015 Burro Canyon Gunshot Wound Incident

Found it in Facebook and passing it along. Great info!

7 June 2015 Burro Canyon Gunshot Wound Incident

7 June 2015 Burro Canyon Gunshot Wound Incident After Action Report

*This after action report is for one primary purpose; for the betterment of the firearms training community and serve as a guide for best practices for other trainers, range officers, RSOs and anyone hosting a range to improve or maintain their emergency action plans and standards. This is NOT an invitation to debate about holster styles, the four safety rules, unholstering/holstering techniques or denigrate the wounded.

*On Sunday 7 June 2015 at approximately 2:30pm I had just given a brief on the Tueller Drill, my RSO Enrique added to the lesson when I heard the sound of a single gun shot and then the distinct sound of a man in pain from the adjacent range to our own. I quickly walked over past the edge of the berm blocking my view and saw a man checking his abdominal area, I asked what happened and he responded that he had shot himself. At that point I ran over to the patient and the following occurred.

*Patient was 30ish year old male.
*Had the patient lay down to better triage his wounds.
*Had the patient’s legs elevated by another member of party.
*The patient’s shirt was raised exposing the entry wound on the lower abdomen then lowered the patient’s pants completely exposing the exit wound on the bottom portion of his scrotum. Patient’s scrotum was bloody but from my best observation there did not appear to be an arterial injury fortunately.
*Decided that an Israeli Bandage was the best course of action. The wrapper of the bandage is designed to be tough for protection from the elements, I found with the blue nitrile gloves on it was difficult to tear open so I used a pair of shears to open it up. There is second plastic wrapper on the inside and that needed to be cut open as well. There was a lack of dexterity under stress and loss of fine motor skills.
*Applied Israeli Bandage to the scrotum, weaving the loose ends of the straps through the built in pressure applicator to press down on the wound.
*The entry wound was much smaller and appeared less serious, for that one I used a simple adhesive bandage to keep dirt and sweat out.
*I heard someone mention the word “ambulance” and I highly suggested they simply drive him directly to the hospital. Someone from the patient’s party drove him to the hospital immediately thereafter.

Suggested Practices:
Briefing of the four firearms safety rules is of course a given, after that the first aid/gun shot wound treatment and medical evacuation plan should be thoroughly briefed as if an emergency incident had already happened to you.

First Aid/Gun Shot Wound Kit:
1. Multi-purpose battle dressing/pressure bandage/Israeli Bandage for most wounds.
2. Hemostatic agent like Quikclot Combat Gauze or Z-fold for more severe hemorrhaging.
3. CAT or SOFTT Tourniquet for severe hemorrhaging to the extremities.
4. Chest seals for sucking chest wounds. Halo Chest Seals set the standard.
5. Shears: Not just for cutting clothing but tearing open foil and plastic under stress becomes difficult.

Someone should be able to brief all of the above in detail. That someone should be with the party from the beginning to the end. I think it’s acceptable to have the GSW kit centralized but extra credit points for wearing it.

The Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) Plan

Reverse plan: from the hospital how did the patient get there? In which vehicle? Who drove? How did they know how to get there?

*Thus, there should be at least one designated ambulance.
*Driver designated, preferably someone who knows the area.
*Keys will be on the dashboard or in the ignition.
*Google or Yahoo map from point A (the range) to point B (the nearest hospital with a 24 hour emergency room). Ensure it is not a convalescent home or veterinarian!
*Parked in a manner with an easy egress route.

*I got a lot of kudos in this thread but I return all the compliments to US Navy Field Medicine.

Respectfully Submitted,

Stanton “Stan” Lee.

CSGV Police Executive Research Forum

In a survey we conducted with the Police Executive Research Forum last year of 382 law enforcement agencies, 74 percent reported anti-government extremism as one of the top three terrorist threats in their jurisdiction; 39 percent listed extremism connected with Al Qaeda or like-minded terrorist organizations. And only 3 percent identified the threat from Muslim extremists as severe, compared with 7 percent for anti-government and other forms of extremism.

Source: The Other Terror Threat – NYTimes.com

Wow! It has to be real bad when 282 of the 12,000 law enforcement agencies in the US consider anti gun extremism the top terrorist threat. They should have hard numbers on that, right?

“The threat is real,” says the handout from one training program sponsored by the Department of Justice. Since 2000, the handout notes, 25 law enforcement officers have been killed by right-wing extremists, who share a “fear that government will confiscate firearms” and a “belief in the approaching collapse of government and the economy.”

And,

Since 9/11, an average of nine American Muslims per year have been involved in an average of six terrorism-related plots against targets in the United States. Most were disrupted, but the 20 plots that were carried out accounted for 50 fatalities over the past 13 and a half years.

In contrast, right-wing extremists averaged 337 attacks per year in the decade after 9/11, causing a total of 254 fatalities, according to a study by Perliger, a professor at the United States Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center. The toll has increased since the study was released in 2012.

Now, notice that they do the “moving the goalpost” by starting LEO deaths by RW Extremist in 2000 to achieve a count of 25 deaths and then fail to mention any LEO deaths by Islamic terrorism because that would mean to include the 60 deaths in 9/11 at the WTC. The National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund has for the decade of 2005 to 2015 a total of 414 LEO deaths in car crashes and 68 motorcycle accidents for a total of 482 deaths by vehicular accident. You do the math.

Then they hit us with ALL deaths by RW Extremists from 2002 till 2012 for a total of 254 or just over 25 a year or in Chicago terms, give or take 3 weeks. (Chicago averaged 32 homicides per month in 2014.)

It is not till the very bottom of the article that they happen to mention:

Meanwhile, terrorism of all forms has accounted for a tiny proportion of violence in America. There have been more than 215,000 murders in the United States since 9/11. For every person killed by Muslim extremists, there have been 4,300 homicides from other threats.

So basically, this HUGE AND VERY REAL TERRORISTIC THREAT ZOMG RIGHT WING KILLERS! is responsible for 0.11% of the murders for the decade after 9/11 and I am willing to be that is lower than the error rate for the whole FBI UCR Statistics for Murder/Manslaughter for the same period.

My guess is that the New York Times and Taco Stand has started with the 2016 Democrat Primaries and Gun Control is always a good way to get the base going.
