Terrible tally: 500 children dead from gunshots every year, 7,500 hurt, analysis finds – NBC News.com

So the Cult Coalition to Stop Gun Rights Violence is all freaky about this NBC news report:

CSGV NBC 500 children

About 500 American children and teenagers die in hospitals every year after sustaining gunshot wounds — a rate that climbed by nearly 60 percent in a decade, according to the first-ever accounting of such fatalities, released Sunday

via Terrible tally: 500 children dead from gunshots every year, 7,500 hurt, analysis finds – NBC News.com.

Major impact sought: picture of a cute boy whose life was cut short and the repeated use of the word children to reinforce the message. But if you are one of the few that bother to read through, you will find something interesting in paragraph 7:

Madenci, and his colleague, Dr. Christopher Weldon, a surgeon at Boston Children’s Hospital, tallied the new statistics by culling a national database of 36 million pediatric hospitalizations from 1997 to 2009, the most recent year for which figures are available.
During that period, hospitalizations of kids and teens aged 20 and younger from gunshot wounds jumped from 4,270 to 7,730. Firearm deaths of children logged by hospitals rose from 317 in 1997 to 503 in 2009, records showed.

Now lets takes those numbers provided by the article. For the sake of the argument we are going to say that  in those 12 years, each year there were 503 deaths by firearms. That will give us a total of 6,036 deaths. And in those 12 years, each one had 7,730 hospitalizations which would bring us to a total of 92,760. Both together give us the exaggerated total of 98,760 deaths & hospitalizations.

Now, they were kind enough to provide us with the number of 36 million pediatric hospitalizations for that time frame which means that 98,760 deaths & hospitalizations by firearms represents 0.27% of the total of hospitalizations and my numbers are way over the top.

What really makes me “irritable” is that the same crowd that cry to make our kids safe from the dangers of firearms is the same mob that throws a big tantrum and refuses gun safety programs directed to kids like Eddie Eagle to be taught in schools.

I noticed that CDC considers a child to be between the ages of 1 and 14 as per their reports. We also know that the 15-19 section of victims of firearms are closely related to gang activity and the drug trade thus the higher incidence of wounds and deaths in that age bracket. But they have no problems considering them all children if the political shoe fits and they can make a sizzle.

As with any product, if you make an attractive label and a nice slogan, you will sell. It is up to us to denounce the snake oil vendors and their deceptive practices.

“If it isn’t true, it ought to be…”

Pursuant to the issuing of warrants, Hamer sent word to the local lawmen to come down to the courthouse and surrender. When they arrived, Hamer told them to give their guns to one of his Rangers. However, the sheriff informed Hamer that they had all disarmed before coming down to surrender.

Hamer looked at the sheriff in disbelief and said, “Dammit! Y’all go home and get your guns and come down here and surrender like you’re supposed to!”

He is the kind of guy I would not mind sitting around a campfire and just relax letting him all the talking.

The one that would probably get me arrested.

Years ago I had to endure this kind of crap because I lived in a Banana Republic, but now? California Highway Patrol Rule 2At the risk of ending licking pavement and wearing steel jewelery, I’d tell that CHiP what he can do with that rifle if he does not aim it somewhere else. And if you cannot bring your rifle fast enough at a real threat, you ain’t got not business carrying one.

Guns & Ammo rates Florida as only 17th for CWP.

17. Florida
Florida’s concealed carry license is honored by many states because obtaining one meets or exceeds most state’s minimum requirements; applicants are required to take part in live-fire training, fingerprinting and photographs. Florida’s carry laws have been used as a model for several other states as concealed carry has proliferated across the country. Florida scored well in all categories, but their $112 application fee is not desirable.

via The Best Concealed Carry States in 2013 (Text Only) – Guns & Ammo.

I am gonna have to disagree. Although the fee seems steep on the way in, the reality is that it is not as it comes to $16 a year since the permit is good for seven years. After that, the renewal for the next seven years come with the tag of $60 bucks or $8.57/year. Applied both fees in a 14 year period, you have the great total of $12.28 per year.

And to make it more awesome, 100% of the monies collected are only used for the Concealed Weapons Permit program. They are not revenue to be used to patch some other failing program. CWP holders sustain 100% of the system…we are self-sufficient.

Also, if you happen to live near one of the eight Department of Licensing Regional Offices, you can make an appointment and show up with only your certificate of training and the money to pay for the fee, the rest is done electronically (fingerprinting included.) My Better Half went this way and got her CWP in three weeks.

So maybe #1 is not in the cards, but certainly not 17th.

Two men killed by bikers in funeral procession in Caracas – Daily News

On Wednesday noon, two people were murdered during a funeral procession escorted by a large group of bikers on the Francisco Fajardo highway, west Caracas. The casualties were a motorist and a biker who was taking part in the procession.

The group of riders blocked the highway to make a pay of “tribute” to the deceased, and all motorists behind the cortege were stuck in traffic.

One of the motorists, Luis Enrique Moleiro Figueroa (62), started to honk his car horn in a sign of protest, asking the bikers to let him pass.

Riders started to harass and rob several drivers. Moleiro was with his two sons; one of them was a retired lieutenant of the Army, Luis Alfredo (42). In the heat of the argument, a biker shot and killed Moleiro instantly.

Yup, that Gun Control is working so fine in Venezuela.

Here’s an example of the way they pay tribute to the deceased.

And no, authorities can’t do or won’t do a darned thing. Commuters are at the mercy of these idiots.

Josh Sugarmann & The KKK Agree: Black should not have guns.

Gun violence plays a predominant role in homicides among black women. When the murder weapon could be identified, 51 percent of black female victims were shot and killed with a gun. Within that group, 82 percent were shot and killed with a handgun.

via Black Women Face a Greater Risk of Domestic Violence | Josh Sugarmann.

It still amazes me that in this age of political correctness run amok, a white guy can get away pontificating the evils of Blacks having Guns.

The problem of Domestic Violence is one that has no easy solution and will never be eradicated. But what we can do is stop telling women that they are powerless and the only resources they have at their disposal is legal remedies that depend on the kindness of strangers who will not be at their side 24/7. We are asking them to choose Paper, while the abusive mates holds Scissors and other assorted means of inflicting great bodily harm. Yes, go the legal way but keep all options available.

When the Bully gets aggressive, a gun in the hand of the intended victim will trump rock, scissors, fists, kicks, bats, etc. To keep a victim of domestic violence unarmed for political expediency is morally wrong and a true indication of who is waging the war against women.
