A scene from the future

Politician: “The shutdown and lockdown worked.  It was a tough nine months until a vaccine was made available but the models projected 60,000 COVID deaths and there were only 40,000 COVID deaths.  We saved 20,000 lives by being proactive.”

Citizen: “But in that same time hald the working age population declared bankruptcy, dicorces are sky high, 60,000 overdosed and nearly 100,000 people blew their brains out.  Your plan cost more lives than it saved.”

Politician: “Are you telling me during the lockdown almost 100,000 people died of gunshot wounds?”

Citizen: “Yes, the lockdown drove them mad.”

Politician: “We need to pass a whole bunch of new laws.  Next time we need to be sure that we confiscate all the guns before we lock everything down to save more lives.”

Why would 21 State Attorney Generals lie in writing for the world to see?

This is what the letter states:

and page 2

It is in page 2 where we find the Big Lie:

So I download and automatically as if by magic, a gun will appear on my desk? I don’t even bother with assembly? Will it also manufacture the ammunition? Damn, those are some advanced plans!
Of course it requires the investment of another machine and materials for that to happen. But it seems the 21 State Attorney Generals want you to believe that the files only need the an used Chromebook and the cheap printer special in Walmart for you to get a fully semi automatic .50 caliber AR 47.

Why we need a return to normal ASAP

I’ve written about the crushing misery that is extended unemployment.

One thing that made it bearable for me was that after a buddy was laid off some years ago and watching what he went through, I made sure I had six months of savings put away which helped cover me during my unemployment.

I know that I was privileged that I could afford to put some away every month and build up a reserve.  Many people don’t have that ability.

It’s no surprise to me then to see this news:

Calls to Some Call Centers that Manage Helplines are up 300% amid coronavirus

The stresses around COVID-19 are causing mental health calls to skyrocket.

FirstLink, a local company that answers the 211 helplines and National Suicide Prevention Hotline, says call volume to some call centers are up 300% nationally

In 2017, the last year we have data, there were 47,000 suicides.

If you make the assumption that the ratio of calls to suicides is the same now as in 2017, then an extended shutdown and protracted unemployment could let to near 150,000 suicides.

That is more than double the 60,000 Coronavirus deaths projected by the models and more than six times the current number of 24,000 Coronavirus deaths.

If the reaction to the Coronavirus results in more people taking their  own lives due to stress than dying of the virus itself, there will be hell to pay by the decision makers.

This cannot be allowed to happen.  We must reopen ASAP.

IANAL but I don’t think this schmuck is either

Our acting Director of National Intelligence, Richard Grenell is awesome.

He posted this online.

This is how some douchebag replied to that.

This guy advertises himself to be a civil rights attorney.

A civil rights attorney.

According to a fucking civil rights attorney, your right to leave your house is suspended without due process because you might get him sick.

I’ve never met a civil rights attorney who got a hard-on reading the majority opinion in Korematsu, but I guess there is a first for everything.

I wonder what other generalized threat you can pose that this guy believes gets your rights suspended without due process?

If I extrapolated his opinion to this Tweet, saying something this dumb on Twitter should get him disbarred and the law school professor who taught him Constitutional law fired.

What a fucking asshole.

Chris Hayes makes the case for a journalist license

The media makes it hard to believe in the First Amendment.

This was Chris Hayes last month:

This is Chris Hayes yesterday:

If a surgeon left a scalpel in you and realized after the fact that he did, you could sue him into oblivion and he’d probably go to jail.

If a licensed engineer looked at the rubble of a bridge and said: “Oops, I forgot to carry the one.”  He’d be sued into oblivion and probably go to jail.

If a talking head with MSNBC realizes that he said perhaps the stupidest fucking thing imaginable because he believed the Chinese government’s propaganda, he gets to carry on with his show collecting millions of dollars in salary.

I believe in the right to a free press.

But I also believe when you have some stupid fucker like Hayes saying shit like this which scares the crap out of people because he’s so consumed with TDS and a Leftist reflexive dislike of America that he really needs to suffer some sort of actual, factual painful punishment for it.

Nazis marching in the streets don’t make me want to curb the First Amendment.  They have that right to free speech and I have a right to keep and bear arms.

Some dumbass, shit-for-brains journalist being this wrong while trying to appear to be an intellectual authority makes me want to throw him a prison cell for the rest of his life.
