Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

Father of Parkland High School victim lied to by uthorites. But it was the NRA’s fault too, I guess.

Here’s the news item:

On paper, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High looked like one of the safest high schools in Florida.

The Broward school district reported to the state that no one was bullied or harassed, no one trespassed on campus, no one was violently attacked, no one broke into campus after hours and nothing expensive was stolen during the 2016-17 school year.

It wasn’t true.

The district reports only a portion of its actual crimes to the state, making it impossible to spot a school’s trouble spots and inform parents about safety, the South Florida Sun Sentinel has found.

Broward school district failing to report many campus crimes to state as required .

Investigate what Mr. Schachter? You yourself helped deflect the blame from the authorities that created the conditions that led your son murdered by the sack of shit Cruz. You went Tallahassee and advocated for our Rights to be infringed. You used the bloody shirt of your son to lobby for gun control and pass the School Marshal program to make ours schools safer, and immediately  the same school district that fucked you and your son said it won’t allow the hardening of the schools in Broward County by using Marshals but they will take the money.

You have my sympathy for the death of your son. You do not have my respect. Stop whining, admit your errors & correct your mistakes. It is the least you owe to the Law Abiding Civilians that you besmirched while being led by the nose by Broward County politicians.

Florida NICS Background Checks Reports. Some stuff is not making sense.

You probably read the headline already:

The screeches for Putnam to renounce are already loud and widespread. Of course it has to do more with him seeking the Governorship of the state than any actual fault that lies with him.

The Tampa Bay Times has the article and the link to the report of the Office of the Inspector General and as usual when it comes to guns (and other subjects) it is accurate but not necessarily the truth.  The slightly-less-than-obvious hint is that tens of thousands, probably hundreds of thousands of licenses were issued without any NICS background for a period of 11 months.

Here is the thing: The OIG report only mentions one individual,  Lisa Wilde, failing to upload  the applications to the NICS system. I do not pretend to know how the process goes exactly, but I am sure she is not the only one processing the background of people applying for Florida’s CWP.

We are talking a total of 274,470 applications (268,000 approved plus 6,470 denied) processed in a space of 44 weeks or 1,766 hours. That comes to 152 background checks an hour or 2.5 checks every minute if my math is not out there.  2.5 checks every minute without any bathroom breaks or lunch or even stretching every so often to relieve cramped muscles. Call me cynic, but I doubt that just one person processed that many.

The OIG report never mentions numbers at al,l so all the numbers published are just speculations.  And there is still the issue of permits denied which you can be sure not all of the applications were rejected because they applicants forgot to write their address as the article desperate tries to hint away.

So yes, what Lisa Wilde did was incompetent and broke of the trust to the State and the People of Florida so she deserves to be punished for it. But until we have the precise number of  applications she dealt with, the Tampa Bay Times insinuating that 268,000 approved applications are all tainted by this person is just political bullshit.

And just a reminder: Never trust the news, go to the source and/or raw data if you can.

Nature’s Waste Management.

Yesterday I stepped out to the back porch only to be assaulted by the smell of something dead. I noticed part of the fence covered in nasty black flies and when I went down the lawn to investigate, there was a dead duck right on the water side of my fence. Then the wind changed and the smell really hit me; retreat back inside was performed rather hastily. Oh well, I figured that in about a week might be safe to go back outside without a mask or something.

But nature provided. I went just now to the kitchen and I saw this scene.

Not only it is getting a source of protein, but I may be able to get back to the porch sooner than expected.

It is in the eyes.

I think I might have mentioned that my first “love” was Emma Peel followed by Morticia Adams. This was when I was starting to figure out girls were not annoying and yucky, but that they held some mysterious attraction.

Later in life (OK, not so later. In my teens) when I finally figured what the heck was all about, I realized that my loins would respond to a good-looking body, but my brain and breath would be captured by the eyes.

Jacqueline Bisset, the most famous wet t-shirt of my generation. She is the coolest girlfriend ever (Bullit’s) and eyes that will stop you faster than a 2×4 across the chest.

Sorry, I don’t usually do the Sexy Woman clickbait thing, but I still get a bit of my breath taken away when I see her eyes.

City of Parkland suspects there is something amiss with Broward Sheriff’s Office.

So they are taking “action.”

Parkland’s city manager is asking the Broward Sheriff’s Office to replace the commander who led the agency’s response to a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
In a statement, Bob Payton said he asked Sheriff Scott Israel to provide three recommendations to fill the position of Capt. Jan Jordan. The city would like for the replacement to hold the rank of major.

In case you have forgotten, Capitan Jan Jordan was the officer in charge during the shooting and the one that ordered the 4 BSO Deputies and paramedics not to enter the school. She was only removed yesterday from her position and only because the city of Parkland asked for it. Great, ain’t it?

A news release says Parkland has hired a private firm to evaluate its contract with the sheriff’s office for law enforcement services, as well as issues that include how 911 calls are handled.
The 911 system complicated the response to the shooting because calls from inside the school were routed to nearby Coral Springs, instead of the sheriff’s office.

And it makes you wonder why 911 calls in Parkland were routed to Coral Springs PD rather than BSO,? The standard is that 911 gets routed to the closest responding department, right?

OK, that clears stuff up.

Some years back, BSO marketed itself (and still does) as the premier Law Enforcement and Rescue agency for Broward County. For many small towns, it was cheaper to hire BSO rather than have the expense to create and maintain their own PD and Fire departments. But BSO marketing apparently included some stats on crime reduction that were not quite “adjusted to reality” and it has led to issues when reality strikes, but none as brutal as the school shooting.

There is a cesspool under Broward County services that is bubbling. There are also a lot of people sitting on the lid trying to keep it from blowing up.  I know that eventually enough pressure will build up and crap is gonna be spread all over, but I wonder how many more lives will it take to reach that point.
