The Redneck Army and Cajun Navy with their lifted mud bogger trucks, airboats, and shallow water fishing/hunting boats rescued more people faster than the Guard, without tackling old ladies, kicking people out of their homes, or confiscating law-abiding citizens’ guns.

Wal-Mart was faster and more effective in food and water delivery than the Guard.

A guy named Mattress Mack, in Texas, housed more people with a furniture store than the Guard.

I’d rather civilian volunteers help than the Guard. They seem to be more effective without trampling on civil rights.

  1. Spot on. Guys with pickup trucks were clearing the roads before our big hurricane had completely passed. They weren’t city or county employees or people from the power company — just guys who wanted to put those “useless” trucks to work helping their neighbors. Neighbors and their friends helped free my car from a tree after Michael. My denomination’s Christian Aid and Relief sent people down to help in hard-hit areas, and they and members of my church helped me clear my backyard. Another group from our denomination helped rebuild our church, and families from all over the country donated hymnals and other supplies lost in the storm. The Cajun Navy helped in the worst areas. Love ’em or hate ’em, Walmart has some of the best logistics around, and the Waffle House didn’t stay closed for long. Private businesses and private citizens do most of the work, and do it best. Of course, I live in a part of the country where folks don’t expect to be rescued by the government, and that helps.

  2. Funny how all them “stupid dumb southerners “ did more in a week than ANY gubmint dept did in 10 freaking decades…..THAT is America.
